I remember when the video came out that some people were saying TLC was advocating plastic surgery, etc. I was like, "Did you even *listen* to the song?" The last thing they were doing was encouraging cosmetic surgery or changing yourself for a guy. They were saying the exact, complete opposite.
FWIW I think there is a place for cosmetic surgery! Breast implants for women who survived Breast Cancer for instance. "nose jobs" can sometimes be done to help people with restricted breathing from trauma for instance. that said "my boyfriend wants me to have bigger boobies" aint it. if YOU want them, then its your decision, BUT its something that should be thought about, studied, prayed over, whatever your thing is beforehand.
@@mikeholton9876 I absolutely agree. If someone wants cosmetic surgery to correct a health issue or just because, "Dammit, I want a smaller nose or bigger boobs!", then there is no shame in that game. I just think a lot of people, especially women (but men too), go that route because either 1) a significant other pushes them to do it or, 2) pressures from society's expectation of beauty pushes them to it. When those things happen, it sucks because the surgery probably isn't going to make them feel any better about themselves. In fact, probably the opposite.
@@ness1860 you're likely right, and this was what spurred the video to cover that. (and I agree with their message 100%) the video speaks to peer pressure heavily in a couple of ways, which is part of its importance, and the people that came out trying to diss TLC about cosmetic surgery did so for the wrong reasons. if you asked them today they would likely tell you it was more about standing up for yourself than bending to the whims and bullying of others. I just wanted to point out that there are cases where these surgeries can be life changing in a good way if they are actually appropriate for the patient.
RIP Left Eye. So young and beautiful. I can definitely relate to this song. I've never been tall enough, thin enough, pretty enough. I spent 50 years trying to be what everyone thought I should be, but now I don't care. I've finally learned to love me, and to hell with what anyone else thinks.
And this is why TLC will always be a girl group like no other a sisterhood a bond that cannot be broken they had unique style of prescience like no other lyrics Fashion and they did rap R&B and even left eye with her sign language in this song all this is why they’re the best
This is dedicated to those girls that think they're ugly just because of other's opinions.. You're beautiful just the way you are. Embrace yourself because beauty comes in different shapes n sizes 🥰
If someone says they love you, then tries to change you.. They don't love for who you are. Someone true, the kind of love that lasts a life time, will love you no matter what faults you think you have.
I remember watching this video in 1999 when I was the tender age of 14. Passing by , my father saw the video playing in our living room and watched it. When the part with the girl eating the chocolate cake and hiding it under her bed came up I’ll never forget what he said... “ Well...stop eating! And then you won’t be FAT!” It CRUSHED me. This song made me cry so much as a young girl, but now as a grown woman I’m so grateful I never went under the knife . Despite the fact I looked more like my fathers side of the family . In the end this tomboy of a 5 ft 9in girl at 14 turned out to be a beautiful strong woman without her fathers approval. THANK YOU TLC for teaching me self love at an early age❤️❤️❤️
feel bad the youth doesn’t have a tlc,en Vogue, brandy,Lauren Hill and more just in that genre of hip hop and r and b, I grew up on everything from Tupac to Willie Nelson crazy sexy cool is one of my favorite albums with a positive message especially to build up the young ladies around the beats and vocals they made a huge impact
Please react to “Creep”, “Red Light Special”, “What about your friends”, “Kick your game”, “Ain’t 2 proud 2 beg”, “Baby baby baby”, “Get it up”, “Diggin on you”, “Girl Talk”
This is actually the clean version. There's actually a more graphic version of the music video where T-Boz and Left Eye had solo acting parts like Chilli that was out that's now considered the widescreen version. You also get more of a graphic view point of Chilli's storyline in that music video as well.
This was actually a poem in T Boz book called My Thoughts. She had so many good poems and stories in it. Unfortunate it is hard to find now except through small book sellers.
2 decades later and this is STILL a hugely important song! TLC (I think anyway) opened up some serious topics. Cristina Aguilera had a song "I am Beautiful" I think is the title, that was equally as powerful. anthems of "self worth" that not only empower those who have been afraid to open up about issues like their gender, sexuality, self image, addiction and a myriad of other topics while (and this is just as important) opening the eyes of people around these people to accept them for who they are. There's still a lot for society to work out, but these songs and the artists being powerful in the delivery both in lyrics and video really gave a big push that I think has made it that much easier for folks today both in being open personally as well as folks being more accepting. Great pick Billy!
This song was inspired by a poem written by Tboz I uesd to have a book of her poems she released around the time this song was. Released. Beautiful song by 3 beautiful queens.RIP left eye.
This and Des'ree's 'You Gotta Be' were very important songs for my young self. I remember I was the first one of my group of friends to own the CrazySexyCool album and we'd sit around and listen to it. Feels right now.
Everyone should feel beautiful in their own skin and their size. A specific weight or body type shouldn’t be what everyone thinks is beautiful. Yes, we should do our part to be more healthy, but that doesn’t mean you have to be skinny. If you have to resort to anorexia or bulimia to be what society believes is “pretty”, then you are not being true to your natural body type and loving yourself. You have to love your own features as they are, but if a person wants to have plastic surgery then it needs to be for them and not for a boyfriend or girlfriend or to fit into what society says is “beautiful.” In the uncut video, the young girl/woman was having her implants removed and they showed it and that’s why Chilli ran out. Chilli didn’t want implants, but was going to get them because her boyfriend felt she’d be more attractive to him if she did.
If you’re going for this genre, you’ve gotta do En Vogue, the funkiest girl group of the 90s - Free Your Mind is a good one by them. Or for dudes, Blackstreet - No Diggity or Don’t Leave Me. Another great reaction, Billy. Take care and stay safe. All the best from Vancouver, Canada.
I like that this song is showing young girls and women you don’t have to have all this plastic surgery to be the most beautiful woman on the planet just be yourself. I have dated women in the past that some people would consider definitely not a good looking girl but to me they were beautiful and I did not care what anybody else thought because for me it’s more about what’s on the inside than it is on the outside but I will admit that sometimes looks or a good thing too but I would rather date a girl who is not the best looking but has an amazing personality than a hot chick that is just downright rude and cruel and has zero personality whatsoever
"The Lord blessed you with your image for a reason." Facts. Proof? Photoshop yourself how you think you want to look and watch how it actually DOESN'T look right on you. God didn't make any mistakes.
This video always makes me cry. I grew up in Orange County California and there were girls at my high school getting fake boobs put in at 16. 16!!! Like, you’re not even done developing yet, slow down! But so many of the moms had them it was something that was normalized. I was skinny(even though I ate a lot, I was just a bony little thing and I hated it), frizzy-haired and darker skinned than most of the Barbie-looking girls at my school and had a ton of insecurities as a young teen. I heard this song on TRL(I know you know what I’m talking about Billy cuz you’re old like me😂) when I was 13 or 14 and it resonated soooo much with me. It seriously gave me more confidence to be happy with myself and not give a shit about anyone who tried to make me feel like I wasn’t enough because of the way I looked. Thank you, TLC!! I have two little daughters now and will definitely be introducing them to this song when they’re older and going into that phase. Thankfully they’re still young enough that they don’t care too much about their looks but my husband and I tell them all the time how brilliant, strong, beautiful, kind, and amazing they are. Thank you for your reaction to this fantastic song, Billy!! You’re beautiful too and we love your baby face!! ❤️
When i was young, i was locked in a shed by 2 boys who hated how i looked, 40 years on, i still have nightmares. They spat in my face, broke my nose, broke my ribs and blackened my face. Never been able to free myself from this....
I agree with you on getting therapy if you're truly unhappy with yourself - things like Body Dysmorphia can be horrific without help, some people are also stuck at the body weight they are through no fault of their own, so no amount of dieting or exercise will change that. Obviously it can help it not get more out of control, but various reasons (most often relating to disability or disease) mean anything else is unobtainable. That's why the body positive movement likes to try and shift the negativity off of the word Fat; Fat and beautiful aren't two ends of the spectrum, and healthy can look completely different for different people. However the bar for treating people nicely shouldn't be if they are healthy or not (not saying that's what you do, just that the "as long as they're healthy" mantra people often use isn't always the best either) because, as previously stated, sometimes ill health comes before the weight gain (as much as Doctors like to ignore that fact). Sorry for the long comment, but as someone with Body Dysmorphia and Disordered Eating that often goes into Eating Disorder territory it's something I have to think about a lot
Lefteye was soo talented and creative, I know nobody but her came up with using sign language in this song. And she came up with soo many different unique ways to wear her hair and clothes, who would’ve ever thought to use a wire hanger to make pigtails extend like they do when she’s walking in at the beginning of the video
They have a song called perfect girls that is literally the same song but came out in 2017 saying no one is perfect but everyone looks at the IG models as perfect and they aren’t
I relate to this song. All my insecurities are described here. I hated myself. I didn't like my reflection, my body, my face anything about me. I'm still trying to love me, but bad habits die hard.
AGREE 100%...he is gorgeous!!! HIS smile and laughter is positively contagious!!! I love how his personality shows through on every video i watch... i adore how his low-key naughtiness shows through sometimes and he apologizes for it LOL. Billy...if u see this comment do NOT apologize for your wickedness...its just another side of you that we love!!! Stay safe and healthy out there guys
@@taligeoghan7245 I agree. I love his into..so unique.. . "What's cracking what's bracking it's your boooooy! Billyyousocrazy and we back and we back and we back and we back with another one: LOVE IT!
I can’t take my eyes off from Left Eye in this video. She’s just soooo beautiful and hot. I can say that T-Boz and Chilli look so gorgeous here tho, just love all of them. But my big crush is definitely on Left Eye.
Their best song is "Sumthin" Wicked This Way Comes" they didn't make a video for it but the message it portrays is just as relevant now as it was then, if not more. Should really give that song a reaction!!
There's apparently a correlation between beard growth and hair loss. So, instead of being sad you don't have a full beard, consider yourself blessed for having good hair on top of your head!
Hahaha. Billy with ur beard. I feel ya man I’m going thin up top. But a woman’s hair is very important to them. Not like us gentlemen. I have bald friends and their hair doesn’t even register to me but a woman’s hair does.
Please please please watch Never Be The Same Again by Melanie C (Sporty Spice) ft Left Eye. It was a massive hit over seas in the early 2000s before lisa passed. I still to this day cannot fathom how it was not a big hit in the USA. The video itself was like a technical marvel back then and still looks like it could be from today!!
I think something you didn't mention, for people wanting to lose weight. Set realistic goals. I will work out this much per week and eat healthy. My goal is to lose ?? lbs per month. And remember, you didn't put on the weight in a week, so you won't lose it in a week.
