I think the primary enemy would be the Japanese from mainland and on the island of Hokkaido are the ainu people... according to history sometime later in the 1600s japan occupy and eventually overthrow the island(if im not mistaken).
@BUPMY1 well japan did oppress the ainu. Japan mainland considered them as barbarians... from what I've researched. 1603 japan (edo period) did aquire guns.

As the GoT connection to Akira Kurosawa, the image of blood in snow in the trailer is a direct quote to the a Japanese movie reference! Lady Snowblood a 70's movie based on a mangá and is ALSO the base inspiration on Quentin Tarantino Kill Bill- a veangece tale - (So the yellow Atsu outfit MAY connect to Kill Bill too)!!!
Through out history of gaming there have been plenty of female lead games since the 80s. People need to separate woke with female. Its the story that makes a game woke. Also just because the actor of yokei is woke. Doesn't mean the character will be. Before judging the actors acting ability maybe people should research her past roles as voice/actor. Last i checked the actor only acts the role they are given. Not develop, write nor publish the game or movie. There is not enough footage to really say yokei is woke. This game story could very well be in contrast as good as netflixs blue eyed samurai(japanese female protagonist who goes on a revenge tour to kill her white father and is shun for being half white by everyone.)
There's a ton of old games with female protagonists, they were super sexualized and hardly ever stoic. Post wokism, all female protagonists dress like men and behave in a stoic manner: those who don't are bashed by wookies (stellar blade for example). While there's been stoic women throughout history, they were the minority. Portraying a stoic woman in a position of power in a historical setting is what's driving the complains: it's impossible to immerse for players who enjoy history and historical accuracy. Keep in mind there's only GoT, and many pc players cannot play it due to the zone restrictions: Way of Samurai is super old and janky, Kengo, Genji, lost to time... The only option left is the sequel to GoT, and it's now unplayable for many people just cuz they can't choose their character. There's no reason at all to enforce 1 character when the game runs in the same engine, the animations will be most likely the same ones, and the story could perfectly work for both Jin and the new character. Just have both and let people choose. People are asking to have the choice.
