Love to see the love for ateez. Matz was such a fun rap song and love the song itself aswell, so happy hongjoong and seonghwa got to show of their rapping.
I'm no expert on rapping ability but Seonghwa was quite impressive on Matz, like it was his idea to do a hip hop track for their subunit & he did an amazing job keeping on par with hongjoong as well as maintaining his own unique tone. Also gonna add that the album was amazing, they had a little bit of everything & all subunit songs executed very well.
Oh, this is so great! Seonghwa is such an undeniably under appreciated all rounder, which is quite baffling to me (personally) as he has rapped in special stages, immortal songs performances, japanese comebacks, and even taken on mingi’s rap lines during his hiatus - ahead of Bouncy and MATZ in particular. Beyond this he has also shown off an insane vocal range in ATEEZ’s discography and also just for fun in other content outside that said discography, as well as his skills within performance and dancing. I hope that people take in your words and show more appreciation against Seonghwa and praise him more in general as well - keeping in mind that he’s a vocalist before he is a rapper, but that he does both extremely well.
Seonghwa's rap is better than the average 'vocalist who raps' because he's not just a vocalist. As a couple other commenters mentioned, Seonghwa actually rapped in his audition for KQ. That shows that he had enough of an interest in/proclivity for hip hop and rap before being trained as an idol, likely a good chunk of his adolescence. We can only assume that he's still loved rap this whole time, and they just added singing to it and made him do that most of the time. He's rapped here and there in some songs and when Mingi was on hiatus he took over his raps in performances. If you haven't reacted to Seonghwa's other raps, I'd be interested in seeing that. There's a couple compilations on RU-vid that you should find easily just by searching for "seonghwa rap"; a lot of them are him just covering other artists' raps but I think it would still show his ability. I hope this all means we'll get to see a lot more rapper Seonghwa in the future so he gets the opportunity to explore and hone his skills. I think a rap trio with HJ, Mingi, and Hwa would be so fucking cool.
I absolutely love the fact that Hongjoong’s immense creativity can also be seen in his rap as well ❤ I’ve also heard that Seonghwa has recently gotten his own room at the studio so I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Hongjoong, Mingi, and the other producers have been teaching Seonghwa a lot of things :D I love this so much!! Thank u for sharing this insightful deep dive!!🤗
in my opinion hongjoong is just a genius it is simple is that he changes his tone and everything also like seonghwa he auditioned as a rapper but also hongjoong was just a producer not a rapper at first and look at him now
SeongHwa is a great rapper and auditioned as a rapper but they love his singing more so they told him to be a vocalist. I think he’s rapped before during pre debut and pre KQ. Thank you so much for noticing and recognizing his talents. I feel that he asked HongJoong to do a rap unit (originally they were asked for something more melodic and sweet) because he wants to showcase his skills and passion in this genre!
Hongjoong is such a versatile and talented rapper, I'm so happy he's getting more recognition! And our Seonghwa 🔥so proud of him for showing us his rapping skills once again. This song is so cool and impressive, and really shows off producer/composer Hongjoong and both their lyrics, thank you, our Matz 💗💗
I guess not many people know seonghwa always auditioned as a rapper for become a trainee. He took the role of the vocalist because as it turns out he was also a good vocalist too and he audition at KQ as a vocalist. Hongjoong is an extremely talented rapper who can not only do your usual raps with flows but also is able to play with every aspect of language, delivery, flow , word delivery , throw etc to fit the songs now that's the sign of a creative person because he isn't afraid to experiment. Also I am loving how migni is also now playing with raps to make them unique also his song youth is so good
i love seeing how much ateez have grown as artists, I feel like with every comeback they've improved their skills. I love their old stuff too but it's exciting to see what they'll do next
My favorite song of the album! Will wasn't my favorite in the series overall, EP Outlaw was my everything, but this song did everything this album did (chaotic rhythms, lyrical repetition, random breaks etc.) in a way that perfectly aligned with my nd brain and it was just fireworks start to finish!
I feel like Ateez is going through a big transformation with their music and I can't wait to see what comes next. One song I would really like to see from them would be something similar to The Leaders with Hongjoong, Seonghwa and Mingi just really showing off with their rapping, I would also love it to include the Yeosang->Hongjoong contrast like in Fireworks and THANXX but followed by a verse that's at the speed/complexity that Hongjoong has been at recently, I think it would just be absolutely insane
Seungmin and Jin catching strays for no reason, never asked to be involved in this 😂 Anyway, Seonghwa snapped, so impressive, and HJ has been one of my favs for a while. If Ateez won't give me a metal album, I hope they do a lot more of this.
Oh I love these breakdowns so much thank you so much for making this. It's really fun to learn about what makes the rap parts as fun as they are. Like I only know "Oh this sounds fun" but after watching these videos I understand WHY it sounds fun XD Also thank you for the Seonghwa love he worked so hard for this >W
Ngl some parts of this video made me feel like I was in math class back in school but with that being said, i really enjoyed it:) I don't know much about technical rapping or anything like that but I do know that Matz is a banger! I'm excited to see if you talk abt the raps from the rest of the album as well.
I was looking forward to this video, thank you for making it! These breakdowns are really, really cool. The song itself is absolute fire, and it's great to learn what makes it so good. Thank you!
I have the biggest shit eating "you DO like crabby patties" smile right now. Like I *told* you he is a legit rapper! Apparently when they decided the units Eden and Hongjoong were both thinking something softer and emotional, but Seonghwa was like NO. I HAVE HIP HOP IN MY VEINS. LETS REALLY DO THIS. and apparently he wrote 100+ lines of lyrics (while it was fully composed and arranged by Hongjoong, but he says Seonghwa gave a lot of help there too) And honestly even before this it wasn't oh look X singer is rapping owo kinda thing, he's always shown that he loves rap and does it well. He auditioned with a self written rap (and apparently intimidated the person running it enough he was let in), he easily covered a LOT of Mingi's raps while he was on hiatus (notably he took Thanxx, the most recent release at the time, he and Hongjoong would split the rest based on where Seonghwa's parts would be in relation), he wrote his own rap for the Gang cover they did (the notable "Silly silly" one), every member rapped for the Seo Taiji and the boys cover they did for immortal songs (he and Hongjoong had a notable back and forth part), he rapped in all their Japanese releases in 2021 since Mingi was out unless it was a translated track, he was officially made Rap Line (Ateez does'nt use lead/main/sub, just vocal, rap, performance) when they did the collab with Kim Jongkook, I could go on. The main reason he isn't just a 3rd rap line member in every song is his voice is too valuable as a singer, between his tone, increadible harmonic knowledge (apparently San took applied music in school and would teach Seonghwa everything when he'd get home, they've done lives where they pick random songs to sing and pull harmonies out of nowhere), and his range, like he and Yunho are the secret weapons of Ateez bc you can give them nearly any note and they can sing it (Yunho goes that bit lower than Seonghwa can, and Seonghwa did the Utopia ad libs, he's all the way up there). There's already struggles to fairly split a song 8 ways and keep the parts as close as possible, so they will often use Seonghwa for the vocals instead fun examples: baby rookie Seonghwa from their radio show in 2019, the vocalists (Mingi was out with his back and Hongjoong was referee ) were all given random letters sent in by fans complaining about something and played a random beat they didn't know till it played and had to turn it into a rap on the fly- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S_PHvm7CPJc.html old 2019 wonderland era Hongjoong and Seonghwa semi part switch duet (mostly Hongjoong singing with Seonghwa rapping) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-X3QZgVZSP_U.htmlsi=-6SNkaCnILUBZq-p last year mostly Seonghwa but also partially Hongjong covering Winner for a show ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eG0YIMpLih0.htmlsi=xw8XuGMKsP4csuh4
Well, Seonghwa auditioned as a rapper but got scared by Hongjoong and Mingi's talent and trained to be a vocalist instead. He was the one who wanted a heavy rap song for their unit song, their producer thought they were going to write a ballad xD We're not joking when we say Seonghwa has a rapper's heart.
hey! i commented on your tiktok about this and said i didn't understand but I was proud, this helped a lot! i knew in my brain that they were good and i knew i enjoyed it but never had the knowledge as to how/why
So would you say now that Seonghwa is a better rapper than Bang Chan? And who are other vocalists than can rap? I know some like Jaehyun (NCT), Hoshi (a little bit), etc. but do you have a list? P.S. I can't find a megaverse flow breakdown video, is it on patreon or you haven't done it yet? Or maybe you won't, that's legit too
Nahhhhhhhhh, like there’s a legit *argument* to say Seonghwa is the best “vocalist rapper”, in the same light of saying “Changbin is the best rapper in Kpop”, but I’d personally say Bang Chan is better (and obv don’t think Changbin is #1.) I do not have a list 😅.. there aren’t many so I think we’ve gotten most of them. Wonhyuk if you count him is easily #1, but he seems like 50/50 rap & vocal so… idk. (I haven’t made a Megaverse breakdown yet… I actually wasn’t really planning to, I just wanted to talk about the Song composition mainly but wasn’t able to get around to it).
@@carkpop agree on Wonhyuk, he hasn't a rapper position, so... And he's great. I agree on Bang Chan being better too. Oh then I understood badly, I thought you'd do a breakdown
I wonder, do rappers themselves thinking about these schemes or they just searching for what is natural for them? With a bit of knowledge of music theory, of course
Ok, Seungmin is a rapper as well, all of Stray Kids are. And furthermore Seonghwa auditioned with rap at JYPE, so yes he is legit rapper. He even filled in Mingi for short while 🤓 thank you for recognizing that.
Seonghwa has never once mentioned a single company name he auditioned at pre KQ. The only ones we know was Mingi with Maroo shortly, Jongho with top media, and of couse Wooyoung and Yeosang with Big Hit/Hybe. As far as we know not a single one auditioned for JYP. The only ones who had any pre debut experience with that company are Yunho and Mingi in a Miss A video they got from their dance school before they started auditioning anywhere.
