The one Golden Girls episode that has really stayed with me even though I think I've only seen it once was the one where Dorthy is sick but all the doctors she sees say that there is nothing wrong with her and that she is just old until she finally gets a doctor to listen to her and figure out what is wrong. I think that this stuck so hard in my head is because I born with a very rare genetic joint condition. My mother knew something was wrong but was told by doctor after doctor that it was just flat feet (which i did also have) or I was just over weight or needed to exercise more to build up my flexibility. It wasn't until my school nurse told my mother "I've seen enough children with Flat feet, there is something else here" that she realized she wasn't crazy for feeling like something else was wrong. She took me to our family doctor and begged him to do an XRay. He didn't think one was needed but did it to placate her and sure enough as soon as he saw the growing plates on my bones he knew something was wrong just not what it was. I got sent back to the same specialist that said I just had flat feet and he did a skeletal survey on me and soon had a diagnosis.

"Sick and Tired," where Dorothy is diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which when the episode aired was often scoffed at by doctors even though it's a real condition. I'm glad your school nurse looked out for you and your mom pushed to be believed and get the answers you needed to live the healthiest life you can. Thank you for telling your story, and all the best.

@@untamedblossoms My mother had a similar case, going through several Doctors/Specialists for years until one finally gave her a correct diagnosis for fibromyalgia, slipped discs, and rheumatoid arthritis. It still leaves me perplexed and annoyed that those 'experienced' doctors can just write disorders like these off as essentially nothing or give patronizing explanations when asked about what to do. Suffering like that is no joke, most people are quick to shrug it off unless they go through it I guess. Hope you, and everyone in this thread, are doing all right and staying safe. :)

She’s pregnant with Kate. Not Michael. As she was pregnant supposedly at 17 and they were married for 38 years and when Michael appears he’s only 30. This could be a continuity issue but it’s the only age that adds up
@aquablue1252
@aquablue1252 3 года назад
No it was Michael . She’s said it multiple times. But you would be correct
@srichardf
@srichardf 3 года назад
I think there is a lot of confusion about which child was the child that Dorothy was pregnant with at 17. I think Michael isn't the child as Dorothy and Stan were married for 38 years and at the beginning of the show they'd been divorced for a few years, so the child would have to be in their 40s by that time. In the first episode that Michael appeared (the one where he slept with Rose's daughter) he stated that he was 28. Kate's age was never mentioned but in her first appearance was her wedding episode where she was young and getting married for the first time. The second episode that Kate appeared (where he husband had cheated on her) Dorothy and Stan were thinking that Kate was going to tell them that she was pregnant, and Kate (played by a different actress) appeared to be more in her 30s. While it was later stated that Dorothy and Stan only had two children, Michael and Kate's ages don't match up with the age of the shot gun wedding child. One theory would be Dorothy miscarried that pregnancy, however in the sperm clinic episode she tells the story of that child's conception. "I wasn't sure we did anything but nine months later when the baby came..." is the line she gave, as well as another line of Sophia telling Stan why she doesn't like him "it's 45 years old (can't remember the age Sophia gave other than somewhere in the 40s) and calls me Grandma." Another theory could be at some point the said child passed away. However there was nothing ever mentioned about any of the girls having lost a child until Sophia's son passed away. Another theory is that Dorothy and Stan aren't on speaking terms with that child and thus he or she isn't mentioned when talking about their children other than saying that child was the reason they got married. Either way it's quite confusing because the ages of Dorothy and Stan's children that we saw on the show don't match the age of the shot gun wedding child.

I didn't really understand why their reunion wasn't held at the old high school either, but I guess it was done so the rest of the girls could be there too. Otherwise they'd have had to accompany her to Brooklyn. Btw, I have to mention how much I love the background you used. Very Blanche's bedroom. ^_^ I'm also currently binge-rewatching the whole series (for the nth time), so you uploading this video was a funny coincidence. As for episode suggestions... You already talked about two of my favourites (the murder mystery dinner one and the one with the school play, where they dress as poultry.) So I'm going to go with the double episode "Sick and Tired" (S05, E01&02). You showed a few clips of it in this episode, and I always thought it was a really good one. Especially because the issue with getting doctors to take you seriously is not just an age thing, but a problem women have in general. Another option would be S06, E09 - Mrs. George Devereaux where Blanche's "supposedly dead" husband suddenly reappears.

By that age it's plausible that other classmates could have relocated to south Florida, so I could sort of buy that. But there were a few continuity boo boos. 80s sitcoms didn't assume most viewers paid attention to character backstories. Dorothy supposedly got pregnant and married Stan in high school, but later mentioned being in a sorority in college. Not impossible, I suppose, but the show had some pretty flexible timelines.

i am just wondering if you have seen the sequel series that aired for a single 24-episode season. The Golden Palace begins where The Golden Girls had ended, in the quartet's now-sold Miami house. With Dorothy Zbornak having married and left in the previous series finale, the three remaining roommates (Sophia Petrillo, Rose Nylund, and Blanche Devereaux) decide to invest in a Miami hotel that is up for sale. The hotel, however, is revealed to have been stripped of all of its personnel in an effort to appear more profitable, leaving only two employees: Roland Wilson, the hotel's manager, and Chuy Castillos, the hotel's chef. This requires the women to perform all the tasks of the hotel's staff. The series focused on the interactions between guests at the hotel and the hotel's staff, as well as between the women and the previous hotel staff. Guest stars were frequent, including recurring characters that had previously appeared on The Golden Girls, such as Debra Engle and Harold Gould as Rebecca Devereaux and Miles Webber, and other celebrities. Bea Arthur also reprised her Dorothy Zbornak role for a two-part storyline in which she visits the hotel to check up on her mother. Following the cancellation of the series, Sophia returns to the rebuilt Shady Pines retirement home (which had burned down in the previous series), appearing as a cast member in the later seasons of Empty Nest. What became of Rose, Blanche, and the hotel is left unresolved

Thank you for another wonderful episode! Would be interested to hear your takes on a couple of episodes, coincidentally both involving tree plots. "Big Daddy", where Blanche's father tells her he is selling the family mansion to start his country music dream (and the girls fight with the neighbor over damage from a fallen tree) and "It's A Miserable Life", where Rose is trying to save a tree from being chopped down so the area can be used for construction and the woman who owns the land it is on is cantankerous and wants it to be torn down but ends up dying after Rose tells her off. The first one felt like an interesting look into Blanche's family/relationship with her father, while the second one was a bit savage when dealing with the miserable neighbor.

The faking your own death joke would have ended at the tennis court the moment any one of them knelt down to notice she was still breathing. I mean even if neither of them knew how to take someone's pulse, in broad daylight they would be able to tell she was inhaling and exhaling slightly. It would have ended in them being dreadfully worried about her collapse and seconds later the joke is up and they would say something like don't scare me like that! I guess it's possible none of them would check her body after her collapse, and then prevent any of them from witnessing a ambulance arrived to take the body to the hospital. It is just so impossible for that scenario to happen because humans are way too curious to not check for themselves to discover how she's doing!

I'd love to see your take on the episode with Dorothy being diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it's a two parter. Sick and Tired Pt 1 and 2. I would love to hear your thoughts on the issue of women not having their health concerns taken seriously by the medical community. I know this issue is getting more talk and people are trying to remedy the situation now, but as a middle aged woman who had a doctor mansplain menstrual cramps to me when I passed a kidney stone, the ending of part two really made me feel better.

Same. I had an issue since I was in my late teens with high estrogen and low testosterone which resulted in several problems related with hormones- one being cystic acne. Drs always blew me off telling me “it’s not that bad” and “hormones are difficult to treat” so they’d prescribe antibiotics for the acne and spironolactone which was a blood pressure med that was supposed to regulate my hormones - all it did was make me feel dizzy since my blood pressure was already on the low side. I finally found the answer in my mid 40s - forget mainstream drs, a wellness chiropractor - two actually, since we moved and I needed to see another dr- both were extremely knowledgeable - more than any gynecologist, endocrinologist, or dermatologist I’d ever seen, they actually *answered* my questions thoroughly, and put me on a treatment plan (adjustments to reset the nerves dealing with my reproductive system, which foods to eliminate, which vitamins I needed, specific exercise to kick start my bodily symptoms and functions). It’s a long-term plan for a long-term problem but it has been working and I’m medication-free.

I would love to see you cover Dorothy's two parter at the start of the final season. I love the entire series, but this story line hits home hard. I have a chronic illness I have been living with for 6 years. I have had plenty of bad doctors and every good one has left their practice in less than a year. With all that, I only got confiming bloodwork that I have an actual auto immune problem last week. Had to get the results from a nurse practitioner because my Dr left the practice the day before my appointment! When I need a boost, when being my own medical advocate is too much or I question if I'm exaggerating things (I'm not) I turn on these episodes. When dorothy cries, I cry. When dorothy finds her strength, so do I. I cant be the only spoonie who feels the same. This show is a lifesaver. For its story lines and its comedic ability to make us all feel better and like we have a friend on our side

Neither one of Dorothy and Stan's children match the age of the shot gun wedding child. Michael was stated to be 28 in his first appearance (the episode where he slept with Rose's daughter), and Kate in her first appearance was a young bride and her second appearance she was played by a different actress and appeared to be in her 30s. So either Dorothy and Stan had three children (even though it was stated they only had 2) or the writers screwed up because the child Dorothy had at 17 should have been in their 40s at the start of the show, as at that time Dorothy and Stan had been divorced for a few years after 38 years of marriage.

I am so happy that you did a video about this episode! It is my personal favorite. Each of the girls gets to shine as their character, and it's hilarious! Also... I tell myself this "class reunion" is only the tennis team. That makes more sense in my head. :) Also, sidenote: Watching Golden Girls in syndication (which I don't usually do, thanks to dvd) is painful. This episode for example is missing the entire cheese and crackers scene (which is hilarious) and they cut out Blanche's story about Kathy Lee (that I quote often). It hurts so much to see great story moments cut so Hallmark and TV Land can squeeze in some more commercials.
