This was first released in 1971 on their 4th album. Rolling Stones pianist Ian Stewart was featured on this song. It came from a spontaneous jam session, with Jimmy Page playing a Chuck Berry style guitar riff and John Bonham playing the drum intro from Little Richard's Keep-A-Knocking. Basically 15 minutes later one of the greatest rock and roll song was made. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
@jenniferfoster1692
@jenniferfoster1692 Год назад
Yes, there is definitely a lot of 50s roots of rock sound here. Besides Chuck Berry, the piano recalls Little Richard & Jerry Lee Lewis..also some JLL & Little Richard vocal styling. They took this song from the 50s and Zeppelin'd it.
@maryannturton9830
@maryannturton9830 Год назад

If ever a song was born of frustration, it's this one! Zep were working on When The Levee Breaks and Bonham was having a bit of bother getting it right. Out of frustration he broke into the intro to the little Richard number and, as you say, 15 minutes later, this monster was born. Been rockin' and rollin' ever since.

Been a giant fan of Led Zeppelin for years now! One thing that always sticks out to me, and it’s hard to explain exactly: Have you ever noticed that like the drums, guitar, and the vocals are kind of going there different tempos, then they all catch up together?? Never heard that with any other band! It is so amazing and sets them apart as such amazing musicians!!

Astute observation! That’s what makes the best bands so transcendent. Bass is so steady the drummer can do some cymbal romp. And yet he’s so steady the bass can get busy at the same time because maybe the guitar riff is holding it all together. At that moment anyway. Then it changes! In a band this strong even the singer can call them all home. Of course jazz players are expected to do all this from the get go but expecting and doing can be two different things. This band had it all.

I can't imagine Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. However, when Jimmy Paige was forming "The New Yardbirds" (later renamed Led Zeppelin), a singer and guitarist named Terry Reid was Paige's first choice. They weren't able to get it together because of previous commitments by Reid. If you react to Terry Reid's song "Stay With Me Baby", you'll know why Paige wanted him. If Janis had a younger brother, he probably would have sounded like Terry Reid.

In the early ninties when my daughter was around 12 to 14 years old when we would hear this on the radio we would turn it up and head bang to it. Good times

Released in 1971. Only ten years away from the heydey of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and other early rock pioneers who heavily influenced these young Englishmen. It's funny how it can still be nostalgic fifty-some years later - when listening to this is the definition of nostalgia. They were the "new thing" that only existed because of the 1950s rockers...

The most rocking’ song ever! Ian Stewart is on piano. He was an unofficial member of The Rolling Stones. This song was inspired by Little Richard.

I can't think of any song with a more appropriate title. Pure, raw rock and roll at it's finest.

Great song. More in-your-face, pump up rock n roll - Mr. Big/Daddy Brother Lover Little Boy (the Electric Drill Song). Yes they use an electric drill in that one 😁. The live video is a must so you can see that in action. You've reacted to Mr. Big once but nothing like that song.

When my kids were teens, and were still upstairs asleep on the weekends, at 10am, i’d turn on my Sansui receiver, and crank up the bose speakers , pop this song in the Cd player, til the walls and windows in the house were vibrating… needless to say sleepy time was over.. they still hate it when I bring up this song, lol

Another flavor of Zeppelin is the rockabilly sound of "Hot Dog". It's truly not like anything else they have recorded.
