In the first Chinese restaurant, you ate the Shaanxi style food. The capital city of Shaanxi province is Xi’an, formerly known as Chang’an, the capital of many ancient Chinese dynasties such as the golden ages of Han and Tang Dynasty (Tang Dynasty replica culture is Japanese culture due to the large amount of kentoushi 遣唐使 or envoys to the Tang Dynasty they sent to copy the whole Tang culture back to Nara Period and Heian Period of Japan, which is why Nara and Kyoto were built after the layout of Chang’an). The first dish is called biang biang mian (mian means noodles in Chinese, and its call men in Japanese and myon in Korean with the same Chinese character). The word biang biang refers to the sound when the wide noodle strip is hit on the table when it’s made. The mutton skewer is in the halal style, or in Jewish term, kosher style without pork. The granule on the skewer is called cumin, ziran 孜然 in Mandarin Chinese. The pork bun is called rou jia mo 肉夾饃🥙 in Mandarin, rou (meat) jia (sandwiched) mo (unleavened bread), literally 「meat sandwiched in unleavened bread」. All of those can be found in the Muslims or Hui people’s Street in Xi’an, the Tang Dynasty capital of you can pay it a visit. I was born in Guangzhou and grew up eating dim sum in White Swan Hotel 白天鵝賓館 as a kid. I remember the artificial river and bridge inside and the nice scenes while enjoying dim sum as a little kid, and now I’ve been in USA for more than 30 years. Time flies. Garden Hotel 花園酒店 and China Grand Hotel 中國大酒店 are also two famous hotels in Guangzhou that you can explore if you have time. As for the joke that the Pearl River water came from Rocky Mountain in USA, haha, you are funny.

Wondering why the name is Chang'an. There's an apostrophe. What's the full name?
@mjj9706
@mjj9706 6 месяцев назад
@@bashersbeware The Chinese characters "长安" (Cháng'ān) carry profound cultural and historical significance. In ancient China, "Chang'an" was the capital city for several dynasties, most notably during the Tang Dynasty, when it reached its zenith as one of the most prosperous and cosmopolitan cities in the world. The character "长" (Cháng) typically conveys the meaning of long-lasting or enduring, evoking a sense of stability and permanence. "安" (Ān) signifies peace and safety. When combined, "长安" (Cháng'ān) symbolizes enduring peace and prosperity. This name reflects the ancient rulers' aspiration for a nation that would enjoy long-term tranquility and flourishing.
@Hoo88846

 Because Chang An are two characters 長安, with the second character romanization starting with a vowel. In order to avoid liaison linking the G to the starting A, an apostrophe is needed.

Yes, I'm glad you noticed this detail. China also pays attention to democracy, but its essence is different from that of Western countries. Western democracy is "the people are the masters", so the Western democratic system has the action of elections to prove itself. form of democracy. The essence of China's democracy is "people first". In ancient China, Mencius had a famous saying: the people are the most important, the country is second, and the king is the least. From "Mencius: Chapter 2 of the Heart" Chapter 14 Explanation: The people Put it first, the country second, and the king last. This is because when there are people, it is necessary to establish a country; when there is a country, there is a need for a "king". The general idea is that the people come first, the country comes second, and the king comes last. 00:23:49 From the latter half of the 19th century until the first half of the 20th century, China existed in a semi-colonial state. Although it was not like India which was a colony under full control of a foreign power. Major foreign powers (which included France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Japan, Russia, United States, etc) coerced the Chinese government into ceding territory and establishing spheres of influence. These ceded lands came to be known as concessions. These European style architectures you saw on Shamian Island in Guangzhou are legacies from two concessions given to France and the United Kingdom in the past. You can still find lot of European architectures in these old concession areas. For a list of these concessions you can search a key word like "Foreign concessions in China".

no, it is over exaggeration , the concession only existed in 4 cities in china, shanghai, tianjing, wuhan and guangzhou , some small concession in other small Chinese cities, that is not across china thing, and it is not a long time thing for most of concession, only few of them lasted until late 1940s, but most of them only existed in late 19th century to 1920s , also it is over statement for spheres of influence, yes, it has influence just like todays world from big countries to small countries, but not that much like a colony , china was independent country all the time , foreign interference is pretty much none

The theory of half-colonized country was created by Vladimir Ilyich Lenin , the former leader of Soviet Union based on his own theory in 1916 and this concept was introduced into China in 1949. And Lenin had never ever been to China in his life. The fact is, even though China was invaded by different countries, Chinese government never lost control for the country. And the foreign concessions were not country wide at all.

Q: Is this China(when it looks so modern)? 😂 The question shows so much of our misconception. It has been modern for the past 2-3 decades. Anyway, thanks for sharing.❤ Greetings from Singapore

Haha the dim sum restaurant in the white swan hotel is very nice but yes expensive 😅 the white swan hotel is the first five stars hotel in China, the UK queen Liz has stayed in here when she visited Guangzhou. And funny fact this city used to call CANTON, might be ringing a bell than you just heard “Guangzhou “

100 years ago Hong Kong used to be part of Guangdong province, The old name of Guangzhou was Canton, as you can still hear Canton fair today for every exhibition here, which is the capital city of Guangdong which speaks Cantanese and is the home town of Cantanese culture, more than 80% of the HK population comes from Guangdong .

When people think about Chinese food, they usually think about rice dishes. But actually in many northern provinces of China, people consume a lot of flour-made food, like all sorts of noodles, buns, dumplings and many more. It’s because the weather in northern China is really dry, and it’s not suitable for growing paddy rice like in southern China, instead they grow wheat.

A few years ago, one of my Canadian tenants also chose to travel to China during the Chinese New Year. Then she emailed me and asked why she couldn’t buy a ticket, why all the stores were closed, and why there was no one on the street. Because it was the Chinese New Year, just like your Christmas, the shops were closed, everyone was at home, and everyone bought tickets in advance to rush home to reunite with their families for the holidays.😂

Brother, I suggest you go to teahouses(茶楼)、 restaurants(酒楼), which are the main dishes in Guangdong Province called Cantonese cuisine. The taste is super delicious and cannot be found outside of Guangdong Province. Small restaurants on the roadside or in shopping centers are considered ordinary fast food by Chinese people.
