The most unbelievable part of this video is the fact they found a 500 dollar civic in on this economy

Kinda feels like an unofficial money pit series and I think a lot of people have been waiting for this style of content again

Not many people even know about bedding brakes, so shoutout to you guys for fully explaining that!

And I am asking, Nay, begging for you to complete this build and give this car all the glory she deserves! The Honda civic kickstarted my love for hatchbacks! The hyundai tiburon and XG350 share the same front knuckles, but have larger calipers on the XG. So I took the two piston calipers and 12" rotors from an XG, slapped em on, and boom instant stopping power upgrade. Next will be 4 piston if I can find a company that still makes em

Top tip: find a close backroad to bed the brakes, that way you can avoid traffic, and stop lights. It's ideal to keep moving, if you have to stop, slow way down and creep until that light turns green, then after bedding try to drive for like 5 minutes without using the brakes, to allow them to cool down. I live in the country so this is easy for me, but, if not, try to plan an ideal route if you can

I wished you could have done a before and after test of the breaks and the affect of bedding them, would have been cool to see the difference. And also mention the difference in boiling point of the breaking fluid and how that contributes to break fade! Love the series :)

Drum brakes are perfectly adequate for street driving. They work well and last a long time. And they aren't hard to change if you take your time. The problem is, they get hot when used a lot. So if you're doing a lot of hard braking, upgrading to discs is a good idea. But if you never go on a track, or don't commonly drive a lot of curvy mountain roads. Factory drum brakes are just fine. If you're drag racing. Drums are lighter and they will stop you just fine. Even 4 wheel drums are good for drag cars. 4 wheel drums are also okay for street cars. But upgrading the front to discs definitely has it's benefits in certain driving conditions

Drum brakes do actually work very well. Just not ideal for racing because of the lack of heat dissipation. You can find many dump trucks with drums all the way around because with drums you get a much larger contact area with the shoes that are almost always bigger than disk brake pads.

Your issues with the rear brakes sticking could be the residual pressure valve, as drum brakes need residual pressure in them to activate easier, when u change them to disc brakes the disc brakes can stick (depending on how well the residual pressure valve works) disc brakes don’t need any residual pressure unlike drums, id recommend taking that out, sometimes they build it into the proportioning valve system, and I could be wrong as I don’t know much about civics but just a thought as to why that was happening to you guys

My xrs 2009 Toyota matrix came factory with some half ass drilled Rotors/brakes. I bought it used w/ 40k and basic rotors, but put upgrades pads on it. I still was being pushed into intersections. I finally found American made rotors drilled/slotted and galvanized nrs brake pads. What a difference !!! I will never buy any other type of pad / rotor combo I just learned from this vid how important brake lines are tho

I've had shaking under light brake pressure since I upgraded the pads and rotors. After watching this video, I went and (safely) stomped on the brakes several times, turns out they weren't bedded in. Thanks Donut!

2:26 that spacer isn’t safe. I hope there is still space enough for the rim to rest on the hub and not the axle studs which could shear off while driving if you hit a big enough bump. 😅 be safe guys ❤ love your content.

You guys should take HI-LO to a new level, and do New-Old. Take an older favorite gen, or the first gen of a vehicle, and test it against the modern favorite gen, or most recent gen of that same make and model or offspring (i.e. Cavalier compared to a Cobalt). Perfect example would be a Full Size American Truck. Old School Square Body, compared to a newer Cateye Gen or Newer. You could do equivelant upgrades on each, such as carburetor on one and injectors on another, forced induction, etc.

People always talk about calibers but no one ever really talks about master cylinders i have a 97 tahoe k1500 with stock calibers (i rebuilt them) ,steel braided lines and the ppv master cylinder,stock rotors and all new fluid and its now the best stopping truck I've owned im glad they covered all of your brakes

Drum brakes are one of those things that I am still surprised are still around. A lot of your big rigs still use air drum brakes but are finally starting to be replaced with air disc brakes and I know that a lot of trailers big and small still use drums for some reason.
