We took apart a Hayabusa engine to find out how this tiny engine is capable of deadly speeds… and then tried to put it back together. Easy, right?

As someone who made connecting rods for motorcycles for a good while, I think it's VERY important to look at that bushing in the rod/wrist pin and see if there's wear marks. On a motor putting out as much power as a friggin BUSA, revving as high as it does, I wouldn't be surprised if they were toast (depending on mileage/abuse), and that will blow a motor. I'm not sure how many bikes have bushings in the top end of the rods, but it's a very nice touch for very well engineered bike. ALSO 9:01 is why you tape a cloth to the top of your rods when assembling a motor like this. Any ding on the case could break a seal.

FYI on most sport bikes like the busa. The transmission is designed to be shifted without the clutch. Even without a quick shifter. It's the same design as those sequential dog boxes that you car guys use. Only need to clutch when taking off or stopping. Shifting you can just blip the throttle and rip into the next gear.

@wildnfree223
@wildnfree223 2 месяца назад
In general you're right, but in experienced hands, a slip of the clutch can often assist shifting under full throttle. Principally we need to create an " unloading " of the gear dogs momentarily to allow shift drum and fork to push the gear into the next gears dog. Either cutting fuel, cutting ignition or in this case slipping the clutch at full throttle creates that unloading and bam our sequential gearbox shifts ! Much love from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦

A little tip for when you put the bottom end and cylinders together, tie strings to the rods that goes thru the cylinders and tie them to a engine hoist or something above, it keeps them always centered and makes that whole thing a lot easier.

I was thinking one person alone could get the cyl block on the pistons the same way using strings.

Yes all for the MOTORCYCLE CONTENT!! I owned a new 2005 GSX-R 600 and then went to a 2007 Triumph 750 Special Edition. Look it up - it was Black and With Gold fleck paint, gold forks, lots of torque! It was a masterpiece back then. Total impulse buy when I was 24!

These things aren't really meant for track days; drag strips are more where they shine. They're not very fast around a racetrack.

There used to be a company on Vancouver Island in BC that imported Caterham 7's and put Hayabusa engines in them. They were reportedly absolutely srupid fast. Wish I had got one but the owner, David Saville Peck, passed away a couple years ago and no more are being made.

Put it in an old bug or Cooper. Interestingly, there are some folks out there that make a chain differential with a selector that can run both directions. You don't have to worry about a drive shaft. Everything will run directly from the busa transmission. Also, because there's a selector for which direction the differential turns, you have a reverse directly out of the box. As an added bonus you can go full Fast and Furious and shift through multiple reverse gears.

I would agree with you that a car's clutch and a motorcycle wet clutch do the same thing. But the method is quite different, as well as the components used. The old R series BMW bikes have a smaller version of the automotive clutch i The execution and components are similar. Trinidad & Tobago. West Indies.

Hello everyone and thank you for the good video explaining the differences from car to motorcycle engine. I'm from Germany and I've been riding a new bike since last year. so far I have ridden 25,000 KM in one season. Everything is still going very well and I change the oil every 4-5,000 km. When do you recommend redoing the spark plugs? I have a motorcycle with a single-target Indian but 2 spark plugs

11:40 Actually the vehicle weight don't affect topspeed, it affects how fast you reach it. Of course, the civic has a greater frontal area, more mechanical losses etc but the key point are horse powers.
