Hi! We're Nick and Jen, a retired military veteran of 14 years and professional dancer/entertainer at Coyote Ugly Bar. Together, we decided to sell everything and break free of the glitz, glam and chaos of city life to move off gird. We live on our 20 acres of remote land in the mountains of Southern Utah.
We’re trying to be as self sufficient as possible by installing all our own utilities and doing everything DIY with as much modern technology as can make happen. Living off grid is about the freedom to build our own path one plank at a time. Life, indeed, is Elevated Off Grid. Come along and see what life is like as we continue to build our property and adventure around Southern Utah's mountains.

Off grid life is NOT for the faint of heart! Everyday is one challenge to overcome!

You should also put water catching system on all the permanent buildings. Even if you only use it for outdoor use, it will save the water in your tanks. Something to think about in the future.

I remember hauling my own water while living out in the desert outside of Bend, Oregon back in the 80's. Back then, there were no plastic totes. My dad made both the holding tank and the hauling tank out of fiberglass. Our driveway was uphill with a curve in it, so it was a real challenge to drive up it during the winter with a full load in the truck. After growing up in the desert, then living as an adult having to haul my water, I still am very conscious of how much water I use even though I live in western Oregon where we have lots of water.

You should put plywood down for the flooring or you will be dropping things through the opening of the pallets and then cursing yourself for not doing it. Lol

Why can’t you get a water truck deliver water to you on a regular basis. They have trucks that deliver water to fill in ground pools. Would this be a viable option for you guys?
@ajarnsteve1958

I would put a plastic membrane on the floor and cover it with good marine plywood.

Do you plan to drill a well? It seems like it would be a better investment than the gas and time to haul totes. We have a 40,000-gallon tank buried mostly in the ground that catches rainwater and runs from the well. You should always have at least 2 sources of water. Is there a creek or lake you can tap? You can buy a surplus canvas billboard tarp and use that to collect rainwater.

Those sheds are quick to put up for the most part. One drawback is that they sweat like no other. Condensation rusts everything and ruins cardboard boxes. Figure out a way to move the air. Those little vents aren’t enough. 😊

Love the videos yall. We have a ranch in Texas and are building our own shops and hopefully a new house I designed myself soon. It's not as pretty as yall's land, but we love it being right outside a city of 100k people, and it's gonna be epic when we finish our automotive shop, metal shop, woodshop, showroom, and paint shop. We went a little crazy on them, building 3 buildings at over 32,000 sqft total, all by ourselves except for concrete and spray foam. Glad we stumbled on yalls channel over a year ago. It's nice seeing a fellow cowboy working on stuff.

I would google lump coal sales I utah I just saw slack it $120 a ton and lump is $110 a ton that is wheee i live in the Huntington area. There was some in Nephi but they buy it from the mine in Huntington area. Also there was a mine near Alton but I’m not sure if it is still in business or the quality of coal. Hope this helps your fellow Air Force Vet and a former coal mines that’s way I feel old at 28 and it’s down hill from there. Also you can check KSL I saw some on there. I would check if your stove will work with coal from what I understand some of the new ones don’t. Also your stove will need fire bricks inside of it or coal can be too hot.
@Jman531

You may be planning to do this anyway, but I would put plywood or something to cover the floor so you don't lose everything you drop. Dont need much just enough to seal all the holes between the pallets.

I may put a couple post in the inside to help with snow load in the winter. Thank you.
@GoodwillCriminalsOfDallas
@GoodwillCriminalsOfDallas 9 дней назад
@@lifeelevatedoffgrid You might think about adding some trees you cut from your property as posts in lieu of interior structure. I would lay a floor of cement boards. If you leave the holes in the floor the critters will move in and set up living quarters quick.

There’s no ground water for a well where you guys are at Or a spring on your property anywhere ? Or at least a reasonable rainfall for rain collection and winter snow melt for water ? Seems like a lot of unnecessary hauling of water OR you made a really bad placement of your house if there’s no water within reason to drill for there.
@lifeelevatedoffgrid
@lifeelevatedoffgrid 9 дней назад
We could drill a well but they’re extremely expensive in our area. In the 6 figure range. The potential for rainwater collection is possible and is something we want to collect on some of our roofs. Just haven’t gotten to that point yet. Hauling is necessary for sure and is what most land owners do on our ranch.

Why aren’t y’all building a water catchment system that will feed water right into those tanks I’m not understanding you. You’ve had the tanks for a while and all it takes is some gutter systems set up so what’s the hold up on that just out of concern but yeah I just wanna know what’s going on. I’m pretty sure a lot of us are wondering the same thing.❤
@lifeelevatedoffgrid
@lifeelevatedoffgrid 9 дней назад
Water catchment is something we’re going to do but isn’t a main priority right now since we can go to our well and haul water. We haul twice a year for a couple days.
