And if you’re rich, it’s your parents’ money. one day that money will be gone but you’re still with that mindset of being able to buy anything -> you will become poor. Then he orders the most expensive thing on the menu, along with drinks, appetizer, dessert. I get second hand embarrassment for my mom.
sometimes it saddens me how people think they don't deserve nice things because it's "wasting money". my mom used to be so frugal with money and going out but nowadays she says that we should save a bit but also go out and have fun and eat something nice sometimes because we never know what could happen
Ya know being a single mom is tough, she just wants you guys to enjoy yourselves now where couldn't afford to when you were young. There is a thing called NECESSITIES that comes before everything else. lol oh how I relate to this so much! I had this experience once when going to a fast food restaurant with an ex of mine they asked me what I wanted and I said the meal I wanted and they all looked at each other giggling and said oh we meant from the value menu we usually order only from there. I felt so embarrassed because I felt like I asked for too much picked something from there. Wasn’t an issue but it made me realize how fortunate my family was growing up and that we were able to have everything we wanted comfortably and that isn’t the case for everyone.
Once went to my husband’s uncle’s house. They went and got like three meals. I sat myself down with a whole meal thinking that one was for me. After about 1/2 into it I realized that he bought them to bring home to share with not only me, my husband and himself but with his kids! I was so embarrassed!
I've been poor and going out with friends. ALWAYS warn people if finances are an issue, then if they proceed to order the expensive thing they can get their own bill. 😂
I come from a water and entree upbringing, but now i go all out: anything with free refills and an app for the table. $14 for a scoop of icecream or a piece of dry cake, no thanka.
I came from a family where my dad would yell at the McDonald’s drive thru “farmers bureau discount” and we would all cringe in the backseat. Also we shared alll meals always and those drive thru days were rare! Married a restaurant , drink, appetizer, entree, dessert! I absolutely loved my upbringing now looking back haha
Amen, it's taken him so long to understand indulging is ok, it's what he's worked so hard to be able to do. Just recently we had this discussion actually. He made some comment about "we didn't grow up the same" and I said you won't ever be there again babe. The other day I had to tell him it was ok to splurge on some pricier sunglasses than he's used to. It was cute like a kid getting something he didn't think he would for Christmas. When we met I gave him his first ever birthday cake. I took him on his very first vacation and was with him when he saw the beach for the first time. We came from other worlds and sometimes it's made me bitter at his family because they had no excuse to not do better but it's made him such a humble selfless person that I don't think he'd be without growing up like he did. The other side though is he's hard to pull emotions from and to form attachments which is so damn hard. Been together 18 years now though so opposites do attract I guess. I came from international travel and luxury cars and a fur coat in kindergarten (lol it was 1985) and he came from a trailer in the country but I love him endlessly and when I'm not perfect or he's not perfect I still choose him..

My parent are divorced so I come from two different kinds Mom: water, appetizers, entree, “dessert is too much sugar” Dad: drinks, appetizers, entree, we always have dessert at home

I’m from the “we got food at home”family and rarely the “you can have a happy meal (or even more rare) ponderosa buffet if you don’t bite the dentist family” lol
My mom and dad cooked really great meals at home steaks, salmon fillets, sauteed green beans etc. When we rarely went to restaurants it was just a treat for mom and dad because they didn't have to cook.
In our family we rarely go out to eat making it for special occasions. This makes eating out a special fun event that you have scraped and saved up for giving you the abilty to go Buckwild and order whatever you want. This makes the whole evening less stressful and more fun since everybody knows the rules
We were a drive thru/dollar menu family but occasionally would splurge on a buffet. I work in a restaurant now and when I get the water and entree families I always try to give them anything extra that I'm allowed to give, like some extra bread or I'll make little fruit cups for the kids or something like that. It's nothing major but they always appreciate the little things, its nice.

Came from a "rare good treat after hard work is well deserved because we appreciate those good things even if it comes a few times a year" vs his "fridge was never empty, stomachs full every night, 2 hard working parents, and family vacations every year" in the end we had the same values, we appreciate good things regardless if there was little or alot. No fancy cars, no 2 story homes, no expensive accessories.
