Hi Emma; I'm looking for a good used running 45 foot transit style/flat nose school bus like "BIRBIE" so I can build my own home on wheels, but I'm not having any good luck. I want either International, Thomas, Bluebird,or Ward! I've tried multiple Google searches for businesses that buy and sell used school buses but none of them showed any pictures with the description of the buses so I can't see what they've got! Do You have any information about where I can find what I want?
@EmmaBuildsBirbie
@EmmaBuildsBirbie Год назад
I'm really not sure! I got really lucky and found my bus when I wasn't really looking so I am not the best person to ask. The only advice I have is to check facebook marketplace or whatever local classifieds you have; that's where I got mine. I know a lot of people get them at auction straight from the school district as well but I'm not sure how that works I'm going to pin this - anyone who has better info than me, help us out!

Hey! Now I don’t know where you are located, but in Connecticut there’s a M&J dealer manufactured in Georgia. They are selling the older but modern bluebird busess. They mostly are selling 2007 Bluebird All Americans because of the new 2023 buses they got for the districts. You could do further research in the website.

it's emma day.💓. you need to get a thing called battery tender fo hook up to your battery when you are parked for a while at a place with shore power. they will keep your battery charged while you are parked.

First off, great jeans! Second, there is a product I think you might want to know about. It's called "Instatrim 3/4" on the jungle site. I used it in a camper and it looks really nice.

You had shore power at your sister's, you should have it get a battery charger/starter being parked that long. The bus has large batteries that take quite some time to charge. You might also check the bus for a block heater cord that keeps the engine block warm, cycling the glow plug was a good suggestion. Enjoy !

Hey Emma! I have a couple easy tips for starting your bus, since it's a diesel there are a couple tricks. First is to turn the key to the on position and let it sit for a second. You'll hear some stuff running, like the fuel pump and glow plugs. There might even be a light on the dash that lets you know the glow plugs are warmed up enough. Second is when it's cold or you haven't ran the bus in a while, it helps to pump the fuel pedal a little bit. You can't really flood it like you could with a gas car. You might also check to see if you have an engine block heater, and if so plug it in when it's cold and the engine will fire up more easily. Good luck!
@karagregory69
@karagregory69 Год назад
Have you ever considered a Battery Maintainer? Not to be confused with a battery charger, the maintainer plugs in and connects to the battery 24/7. uses very little power, to trickle charges the battery but keeps the battery healthy and has a computer to stop charging when full and waits until battery drains to 80% to charge it again. Available at autoparts stores and even Amazon. We use it on my Sister's car who away at college and doesn't need a car up there, the car sits for months at a time and it always starts right up when she has gets home on a school break.

If your batteries are going to die, they will always die in the cold. That's a fact. Also, if they sit in the cold, they will flatten quicker. You can't just start your bus (or any vehicle) and leave it idle to recharge the battery. You need to have the car/bus/whatever above a certain RPM (around 1200-1500) before the alternator created enough charge to do more than just power the vehicle. It's always recommended to go for a 20-30 minute drive to give the batteries a good charge. (Or you could disconnect them from the bus and charge them using a decent but regular 12V charger. Dont just buy any charger, though. This is a science all by itself, though, and I could go into it, on request)

You might want to invest in a "jump box" if your batteries are weak. They make them very small but powerful now.A good investment!

Hi Emma, Auto parts stores carry a battery jump starter, rechargeable battery built into it. Great to have as a emergency tool. Vary in price and under 200.00 I have been carrying one for years and it has saved the day a few times for me👍 Glad to see you took time for a road-trip!

Emma, just happened across your video and subscribed. If you don't mind, I'd like to make a couple suggestions. I don't know what area(s) you live or drive in, but for cold weather starts, always cycle your key a couple times and ( my preference) use Howes Diesel Fuel treatment. I don't know if you have or use a generator, but when you can afford it, I would suggest an Onan. You can also have it hooked into your coolant system to keep your coolant and engine warm to reduce those cold starts as well as charge the batteries and run all your electrical appliances. I have one on my W900 Kenworth with 220" Sleeper and have never had a problem in the 10 years I've had it. One last thing... do fix that door before going out on the road for long periods. You're a pretty young woman and there are some unsavory characters running around. Having said that; it looks like you've done a good job customizing that bus. It looks good and everything appears serviceable. Great job. When / if you decide to have it painted, I would look at Wraps. Yes, they Wraps things that big and can customize it at a fraction of the cost of having it painted. Anyways, great job. Take care and stay safe out here.

☺️💖💖 The way I seen through the camera your desk counter top looks really nice And as far as your kitchen counter I like how it looks on the right side I just couldn't see to much of the left side next to the couch And as far as your bus batteries it definitely sounds like it is time to replace them (My experience with batteries is do your best to upgrade to a higher cranking amp - cold cranking amp type of batteries, they will last a lot longer)
@ginagonzalez6547
@ginagonzalez6547 Год назад
I don't know if you are on the road by the time you read this, but just in case because the weather is going to be in the extremes, it's a good idea to buy brand new batteries for the bus, on a daily basis for as long as its cold, it's good to have the engine running for at least 1/2 hr 2 or 3 times a day just to keep the bus from breaking down due to extreme cold weather. Also, if at all possible to limit the trips on the bus for spring summer and fall. Let the bus rest during the winter for safety reasons. You don't want engine problems during the winter.
@mikehollydennis1879
@mikehollydennis1879 Год назад
I think I remember the bus being a diesel. If thats the case, you're going to have to cycle the ignition two or three times for about 15 seconds each time when its cold out. This will get your glow plugs hot enough to ignite the diesel.
@davep6977
@davep6977 Год назад
You should know this, but. Proper jump start procedure. Connect cables, Let "jumping" vehicle run to charge your battery. To check connection, turn on headlights or something to watch them get brighter. Them turn them back off. After about 15-20 minutes of jumping vehicle running and BEFORE trying to start your vehicle. Turn the jumping vehicle OFF. NEVER crank your vehicle while the jumping vehicle is running. (Reason: the jumping vehicle see's the voltage go down some because it's connected to your vehicle. Thus the alternator is running 100%. When your vehicle starts or tries to. Your alternator is going to be 100%) The head to head surge isn't good. Something might go out, like one of the alternators, electronics or maybe a computer. You can leave the cables connected and use the jumping vehicle as a 2nd battery as long as the engine is NOT running. FYI- don't crank too long or you end up with 2 vehicle with dead batteries. It takes a couple of hours to recharge a battery as long as the charging system is working properly. If your bus's system isn't charging properly, it might already have a diode issue.

If your going to be road tripping you need to get you a quick start plus a couple of extra options as well like a good electric generator, a jackery or some such, harbor freight has a an electric generator with a built in battery jumper quick start as well as a charger...worse thing ever is to be stranded with a dead battery or bad alternator...that bus probably has a standard 12 volt alternator that's easily accessible and easy to swap out...carry both a spare new fresh battery and alternator in a plastic tote for such emergencies and learn how to swap them out, it's not that difficult...the quick starts will crank that thing over instantly, a lot faster than jumper cables, but you always want them on hand aswell.
@paulcoulsonpauline.gcoulso7953
Hi you may need to either install an isolating switch at your batteries to stop slow drain off or connect a trickle charge feed off you solar system. The other thing is diesel don't like cold weather starts. Does it have glow plugs as this will help a lot, and if so glow them for 2 or 3 good times before trying your start up. cheers and Merry Christmas to you

On a Diesel engines you have what the call glow plugs and when you turn key on (when it’s beeping) they are warming up, so the diesel will fire off. In colder areas you may need to get some anti gel to put in fuel tank, so your fuel lines don’t freeze up on you. Tip from a diesel and truck driver

Noco makes some really nice jump starters if you dont want to buy a new battery and need to be able to jump the bus anywhere, though if thats a 24V System then you will probbaly spend close to the cost of the new batteries just to get the jump starter. Make sure when you jump the bus with a car that you leave the other car off, once the bus starts the Altenator from the Truck and the bus fight against eachother which isnt good, its better to just leave the truck off and jump the bus using the power out of the trucks battery.

The bus is looking good Emma your doing a great job little by little and you'll be done girl. You got this. Emma you need to buy a good digital volt meter and use it like for checking your batteries some times as the batteries get old it's good to see where the voltage is for example if a 12 volt battery is under 12 volts just sitting there chances are it's done and it's not uncommon to replace them every 5 to 7 years some only last 2 or 3 get a volt meter is a great tool to have . hang in there and hope your Thanksgiving trip went well.
