Fell in love with my co-worker in 1995. She had a steady boyfriend, but we would have coffee together every morning at work. When I heard they'd broken up in 1996, I put a cassette of this song in her mailbox. Married her in 1999. Still together 25 years later. Powerful song.

I grew up in the “projects” in Bushwick Brooklyn poor af. This song was the first time I remember having joy with my mother. I lost her in 2023 and my sisters played this to her in hospice before I got there and said she started moving and breathing heavier. She passed 4 minutes after I got there. I will cherish this song for the rest of my life because of my mother

Love this song. This was BY FAR their biggest hit, hitting #1 and going Gold in 1992. If you go down this rabbit hole, do "Just Take My Heart", "Wild World" (a cover of a Cat Stevens song), "Take Cover", "Green Tinted Sixties Mind" and "Superfantastic". The lead vocalist's name is Eric Martin. And if you want another great 90s band with a fantastic lead singer, check out Live (pronounced like in "alive"), and their song "Lightning Crashes".

Mr. Big is famous for this ballad... but the band rocked - they had 3 exceptional musicians (bassist Billy Sheehan, guitarist Paul Gilbert, and drummer Pat Torpey) and a great singer, Eric Martin. The band debuted in 1989, but it was the 2nd album 'Lean into it' that made them stars in 1991, going platinum in the US (1 million copies) ... the 3rd album 'Bump ahead' was a huge hit worldwide in 1993... Guitarist Paul Gilbert felt that their 1996 album 'Hey man' was a bit too commercial, so he quit soon after. Guitarist Richie Kotzen joined Mr. Big in 1999 for the album 'Get over it' and 'Actual size' in 2001... However, disagreements led to Mr. Big breaking up soon after. In 2010, guitarist Paul Gilbert reunited w/ the original Mr. Big to release the album 'What if' . Tragically, original drummer Pat Torpey passed away from Parkinson's disease in 2018 (R.I.P.) and the last Mr. Big album in 2017 ('Defying gravity') had been recorded (mostly) without him. To date, Mr. Big has opted not to continue after the death of drummer Pat Torpey... Other Mr. Big singles - 'Green tinted sixties mind' ... 'Wild world' (Cat Stevens cover)... 'Addicted to that rush'... 'Alive & kickin' ... 'Take cover'

Mr Big was not a one hit wonder. This song just happened to make the radio. You must not have grown up back then but most of the hard rock/ metal music didn’t get airplay…which is why the “hair bands” are all known for their ballads. Lead singer Eric Martin wrote this song years before Mr. Big was formed, when he was still in HS. Mr. Big was a "supergroup" composed of musicians who each already had a rep. For example... One of my all time favorite bands, Pat Torpey (R.I.P.) is in my TOP 5 list of favorite drummers. A MONSTER!!! This was called a "Super Group". Where each musician is a famous player from another band, or a badass musician in their own right. This still goes on in Rock and some amazing sounds have come out of these bands. Eric Martin has an AMAZING voice...very soulful. Billy Sheehan (Talas, David Lee Roth, Winery Dogs) ...is like the Eddie Van Halen on bass...but his own style...Paul Gilbert is unreal. They ALL sing too. Most of their music is heavy-funky-Fat vocals...this song was written by Eric and didn't want to show the band...but they LOVED it! It to this date is their biggest hit. Next song? In the late 80's early 90's the rise of MTV's Unplugged series influenced bands to start doing acoustic songs and releasing them as singles. You should check out Extreme "More than Words", Guns n Roses " Patience", Tesla "Love Song" (Five Man Acoustical Band) live version; and Lastly Jon Bon Jovi & Richie Sambora doing "Wanted Dead or Alive" live from the 1989 MTV Music Video Awards which inspired MTV to create the Unplugged series to start with.

A song that comes to mind from them is *Green Tinted Sixties Mind* a song that I know *Amber* would dig and *Jay* I think you would dig *Just Take My Heart.* And a list of some of their other great tunes *; Daddy Brother Little Boy, Wind Me Up, Addicted To That Rush, Alive And Kickin', * and *Shine.* Oh The lead singer's name is *Eric Martin* great vocalist. *Love ❤️ Peace ☮️ and Happiness 😃 Y'all !!*

I have been a huge Eric Martin fan since hearing the Eric Martin Band in the 80’s. The opened for all the rock acts that came through San Francisco (Sammy Hagar, Night Ranger). They had two songs that got some radio play (Don’t Stop and Sucker for a Pretty Face) I think Amber would love Ten Feet Tall as well. The band broke up before they could record a second album. Eric did a few solo albums that showcased his voice but didn’t amount to much. Listen to Confess, These Are The Good Times, Just One Night. Then Mr. Big got together. To Be With You was a song Eric had been toying with for a while. He also did a band called TMG. Great rock album. I feel like you could pick anything he sings on and couldn’t go wrong. I actually met him at a Best Buy while I was working there. He came in looking for a Harry Potter movie. After he asked if I could help him I said your Eric Martin! I’d be happy to help you! Nicest guy.

I'm glad you two heard this song. It's soft yet powerful, especially when you hear the lyrics. It came out in '91, and to this day, it's one of the greatest anthems for us guys who are always friendzoned and have to watch the loves of our life wade through life with these guys that treat them like crap. Yet we stand by their side as their friend, truly caring and loving them, hoping that one day, we will be the next to be with them, and they will realize we were meant for them all along.

Dang, taking us Gen X babies back! This song was so big my freshman year of high school, so it had to be about ‘92 or ‘93. My friend and I used to hang out in her room and sing the chorus loudly, practicing our harmonies, much to the chagrin of her mother and siblings 😂 I am begging you to check out Queensrÿche, “Silent Lucidity” if you haven’t. Another song from around 1992-Queensrÿche looks like a “hair band” but they were more progressive rock. I loved it so much I bought the cassette single and think I literally wore out the tape to the point that it warped because I listened to it so much. The B side of the single I believe was “Jet City Woman,” which is another good one. Geoff Tate’s voice is elite. Edit: Watching this video now once again makes me realize how old I am-the hair tho!

So many great hair bands in the 80's that were amazing live and could sing. They did it live, did it real and were genuine. Mr. Big and so many others had talent under all that glam and hair spray. Someone below mentioned the band EXTREME. Definitely a band to check out - "more than words"

So many power ballads from the 80's and 90's and they all hit your heart in ways no other type of songs can. This generation has no clue about the meaning of these types of love songs.
