Perhaps you cut off the scene of the oil press where you did to prevent spoilers. But the scene is much more powerful when you see “gentile” emerge from the woods, encounter Jesus, looking at him eye to eye, and then Jesus smile, realizing that while what he will suffer will be great, to save this man, and even the world from death, makes him smile, embrace the man, and literally embracing his mission.
Agreed. There's so much meaning in the fact that it was Gaius (and not one of the disciples). It has so many layers to it, I weep like a child every time I see that scene.
I feel he gets relief when Giaus comes. He realizes that what he is about to do will bless the people he loves. He remembers why he must suffer and the repentant Gaius loves him and appreciates Him.
The chosen takes religion out of the picture and puts Jesus front and center. Our hearts are deeply touched with each scene in a way that just reading words or hearing a sermon can't reach. "A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. He was despised and we esteemed Him not." Isiah 53:3
AND THEN shall they know their Redeemer, who is JESUS CHRIST, the Son of God; AND THEN shall they be gathered in from the four quarters of the earth unto their own lands, from whence they have been dispersed; yea, AS THE LORD LIVETH SO SHALL IT BE. Amen.
As a Latter Day Saint, what helped me with the series is the director (Dallas Jenkins) saying: “it’s not a historical document, it’s art”. That helps me get past the inaccuracies and accept the overall message. The Chosen is a powerful tool, beautiful piece(s) of art. ❤
@@robertarnold6192Exactly, The Chosen has depicted Jesus as I've always imagined in my mind, both visually & personality. I've never ever ever connected with dipictions of him as a clean cut European heritage hippy with a stoic/dry personality.
I love knowing Jesus knows me. I had a NDE in 2005. One of the things I remember reflecting on while I was dying, was all of the hurt and pain I had experienced in this life and my regret. In that moment, of what felt like the ultimate definition of defeted and alone, very sacredly I felt Jesus by my side and he said "I know." Two words I will never forget. I can testify, Jesus knows us. Perfectly and infinitely. We can trust him to rescue and redeem. The adversary and his influence is very real and so is the reality of a God in Heaven who made provisions and provides a Savior for us all.
I haven’t wanted to watch it because I like the view of Christ my mind and relationship with Him has created. But perhaps I should watch it to better understand. 🤷♀️
The Chosen's cool, but at the end of the day, it's just another interpretation sprinkled with some Bible fanfiction (like apostle drama and such). As long as you're aware of that you should be fine.
I felt the same way but finally watched a few episodes at the insistence of my sister. I'm so glad I did.. Not only do I love this show but my teenagers can't stop watching it. It has helped bring a depth and emotional connection to the scriptures that I never knew I was missing.
I am seriously hoping there will be a connection to the Red Heifer as a type and shadow of what happened in Gethsemane, similar to how you presented the brass serpent, and Isaac as types of Christ. There are some Catholic articles that link them, a BYU paper from about 20 years ago, and then if you look at the Hebrew for what type of offering the heifer was (chatat/חטאת, which might translate as “sin,” for lack of a better English word, but the purpose of the heifer’s ashes were not to correct a sin like from breaking a commandment, but rather to purify/cleanse from contact with death/correct “tum-a/tumah”/טומאה, a kind of moral depression/feeling as though you are at the mercy of natural forces and a thing that is acted upon rather than a being capable of action, as defined by 19th century Rabbi Samson Raphael Hirsch. I found this by searching for answers about why a “sin” offering is required postpartum in Leviticus 12 when there is no belief of original/imputed sin in Judaism. I found it on judaism stack exchange forum as an answer to the question “why must a yoledet a woman who just gave birth bring a sin offering”). I was also looking for answers about why a Heifer (by definition a female animal) was required for the all-important sacrifice that allowed for other sacrifices to continue, when I had thought that when sex was specified, sacrificial animals had to be male (to point to the sacrifice Christ would make). I was pleasantly surprised to find a link to the Red Heifer with the information about the yoledet requirements! The case for connecting the heifer to Gethsemane was best laid out in the BYU paper I found, but the Catholic articles also touched on it. When coupled with the understanding of the Hebrew words for the offering, it seems undeniable… Anyway. Worth looking into, even if you ultimately disagree! Thanks for what you do! 😊
The Young Lady (the 1st break where they talk) in this video, She spoke to me ... I got chills with her breaking down the scene... but her heart... spoke to me. Please let her know, I so appreciate Her speaking to me.
I have noticed that many times you have said the Atonement and not added of Jesus Christ. We have been counseled by the brethren to say The Atonement of Jesus Christ. I would suggest you do that. With fond regards brother Powers
Wow. I’m all for making sure Christ gets credit for his everything He does, but this type of “word-keeping” is a little crazy to me. Don’t look for offense where it’s not given. I’m sure there’s some authorities out there, including apostles, that would also say “let’s not over-use the Lord’s name” because it’s sacred and doesn’t need to be repeated constantly even when discussing scriptural topics.
@@JohnPerriton I guess President Nelson was "word-keeping" when he counseled us to use Christ's name when talking about the Atonement and using the full name of the Church which also includes Christ's name.
Thanks SU for uplifting analysis. I love the Chosen. It is very inspiring. I have thought more than once how it could cause someone that is not too familiar with the content of the NT to conflate that which is true to the scripture with that which has been added to augment the story. Notwithstanding, it makes me want to follow Christ more closely so I recommend it to everybody.
The hardest part about watching that series is the constant background music of that humming that's supposed to invoke some sort of sense of seriousness or something? idk. It's annoying and used way too much. At the :55 second mark is what I'm talking about
I get the "parallels" and the "symbolism" all around us given to us through... blah blah and blah. But I can't help it but seeing an increasing 'bother' with it. That's because with every parallels or metaphor we seem to draw from scripture, we get into the dangers of ignoring real history events - and history repeats itself and then you end up missing "REAL". I wish I could get that point and feeling and insight across and I seem to get it but you, my family, my friends... They don't.
I do not watch the Chosin because it was set up with a Christ that is more relatable to people not the the real Bible Christ. I do not want a christ that comes down to my level, I must rise to his level, and about the wine press he was glad to do it for me, D & C: 19 16 -19. Yes it was hard but he was glad to do it. And I praise and love him for that. Jesus Christ is who he is no matter what I think about him. Do I get to know him ,understand him and follow him, That is what is necessary for exaltation.
@@KMFCenCal It's not a documentary, it's a drama. They've added characters and events, while doing their best to plausibly weave it together with the Bible as we have it. But I wouldn't say they're *changing* the Bible, just *imagining* what the dramatic background to the scripture might have been. There have been some things they've admitted to changing, like setting certain events in the wrong city, but they've stayed true to the message and spirit of the text.
Just a comment to note that salacious Ward Radio is covering Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives while you are covering The Chosen. As a NeverMo, I applaud your choice to focus on Jesus (even if your definition of Jesus is wholly different than the Bible).
Why are there so many trolls that don’t even know the Bible out there spamming the internet with the claim that they know more about what the Bible teaches about Jesus than Christ’s Restored Church? Is there money involved in this that I don’t know about?
I find it incredibly interesting that people who aren't in my church find it necessary to tell me what my definition of Jesus Christ is! And tell me that he's not the same Jesus Christ you worship ❗️🤷🏼♀️Yeah, that's incredibly disrespectful when you have no idea how true the church is and how we hold the priesthood key's on the earth ❗️I'm a member of this church for a reason! I have been to many churches and all of them we're fake teaching things there way! Instead of God's way! My testimony isn't just about the book of Mormon, it's about actually feeling Jesus Christ and his spirit standing next to you! I have never felt the spirit of God in other churches ⛪️ Instead I felt sick in them not feeling God there! My experience in the church has been miraculous! I will not be put down for my faith, it's true and the sacred ordinances are real and binding to the Lord! ✨️🙏🏻
@@explorerofmindRight now more than ever you must realize the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints is under attack because of several reasons but 1 is recently some amazing people have come from other sects after searching for a very long time for the church with prophets. The adversary is very upset with this kind of people joining the church and so are some other church people.
I think that this series is great blessing to the world it has its place and value along with the Bible and book of Mormon videos have their place and value and together can bless the world with different perspectives and personalities.
I think it's so hard to watch season 4 especially because of the emotions that are there.

i saw the clip where the SAVIOR heals the man let down thru the torn up roof. the writers played fast and loose with the words of the scripture. i also watched the clip where the SAVIOR rose up and claimed with an emphatic voice " i am a revolutionary ". i shouted at my computer NO , NO , NO.!!!!! THAT is " Liberation theology " . that came from central america in the 80s. that is what Jeremiah Wright taught in chicago as the basis for his " black liberation theology ". the SAVIOR said to Pilate " my kingdom is NOT of this world ". the entire series of THE CHOSEN thus becomes questionable at best for me. if you want to see a much better portrayal of CHRIST in scripture , look at the LDS video clips done from HIS birth all the way thru the apostles lives and teachings. all together it is about 2 and 1/2 hours . words taken direct from KJV.
I have a hard time watching the Chosen cuz watching how Loving and merciful Christ really was makes me mad at the LDS church as the leaders were more like Pharisees and Sadducees as their hearts are fixed on judging & discipline the sinners. My parents even admit that repentance was a negative bad thing growing up. Now its a good thing that everyone needs!! I' m like Duh how can the leaders not understand this stuff? We need to bring Christian Grace to the LDS church. Christ did not come to condem (judge and dicipline) but to save! We need to better educated our kids about sin and not shame and kill them!!!
I have often wondered why God threatens punishment or judgement also entices with reward and at other times asks us to follow him out of love. Depending on one’s spiritual maturity, a person may obey the Lord out of fear of punishment, desire for reward, or out of love (which is the highest motive). There is a place for all of these as we are all at different points in our spiritually maturity.
Both of these comments are fair to question the rigidity of the way we were raised in the past at least for me from the 70-80s we were not very well versed on the scriptures regarding repentance and forgiveness and kindness as a way of life emulating the Savior. It does seem to be fairly recent that this is the better way to live and teach others to do also. Still working on the huge change this is for me but I'm trying and to remember I can't do it on my own that I can with Jesus' help. It's a lifelong process journey not a 1 time and you're done thing anyway for sure.
Matthew 7:15-20 Jesus warns his followers of false prophets: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?" this warning is absolutely true for your heresy, yet you still choose to believe in all those lies
