THANKS for the comments on how smooth & powerful the hydraulics are on the 330. I was part of the team that designed the hydraulic system on all Cat excavators (& many other Cat machines. Controllability (smoothness, predictability) was a major objective - and overall efficiency as well. Lower skilled operators have become more common and we wanted to help them, as well as the highly expert operators, to be highly productive over an 8 hour shift. You seemed to adapt quickly to running the machine - having experience on other machines helps.
@jjeanes2214
@jjeanes2214 11 месяцев назад
@panhandlejke6200 the next gen systems are great. We have a 349fl and 349 next gen. The difference is night and day. Doesn’t help the fl has almost 10,000 hours on it and the next gen only has 4500 hours they both run epirock hammers the fl runs a 4700 and the next gen runs a 5800 in a stone quarry. They get run between 16-20 hours a day 5 days a week and 6 hours on Saturday.
@panhandlejake6200
@panhandlejake6200 11 месяцев назад
@@jjeanes2214 Thanks for that info. Quarrying is a tough application and I hope you get many MORE hours out of both machines. Over my 40 year career, we were constantly pushed to find design improvements that actually helped our customers - especially to consistently enable high productivity over long hours, like your application.

That's really cool to hear - big thank you from me, a 2021 Cat 301.5 owner/operator. It is indeed a smooth and easy machine to run. I love it. It may be small but it gets a *lot* of work done.

@@panhandlejake6200 we push our machines (loaders and excavators) to around 10,000 plus then get new models. The two things that tend to see over those hours are our two 990’s (rebuilt a few times) and haul trucks.

My suggestion to you is , dig a good size hole for the burn material. It will be better for wind resistance and you won't have to scatter but just bury it when done.
@junkyardsearcher6407
@junkyardsearcher6407 6 месяцев назад
This is what my grandparents did they dug three holes as deep as they could with the backhoe and put the dirt beside it. It. Those were the garbage burn holes and each lasted about 5 years. Then they we topped off with dirt and leveled out now the whole area is a croquet, badminton and camping area for family reunions.

Just a note here. Equipment used every day for 8 hours of work, usually have a maintenance truck and technician at site at the end of the shift. He goes over the unit and checks every area for issues, the lubes every point, checked every fluid. And refills the fuel tank. If you want those Machi es to work for you every day, you should do the same. Running out of fuel so often should be teaching you a lesson. JMO.

Awesome job! You definitely have the right tool for the job. Be carefully when clearing trees with a large excavator, as you have enough power and speed to accidentally throw a log towards the machine. It can take less than a second for a log to flip back at the cab. Stay safe, enjoy the nice machine!

Same question I have. A year ago, they tore up a lot of wooded real estate to build their dream road that did not work out. Now they will tear up more. As noted by others, it's a RU-vid production and the entire project would not be practical or economically sound otherwise. Meanwhile, we get first-rate entertainment.

Are you planning on using a forestry mulcher on the "waste" wood? The drum type mulchers allow the mulch to be used for compost or at least return those nutrients to the soil, and would prevent the need to burn the "waste" wood. You might even find somebody locally that needs the mulch, or at least some of the mulch.

@Hansen710
@Hansen710 11 месяцев назад
i think a 16t is just as powerfull in many cases.. the missing front showel/stand on this one, moves all the presure to the wheels when you are working.. placing that front thing down gives 20-50 % more power in some cases depending on what way you are aplying force a small machine is also often more easy to get closer to the objects so less power is needed no fun in using a 40ton on the edge of a hole for example it would be 10 times faster to smooth the road after with a 16t with a showel in front for example old machines also often have a lack of power, and this does not look like a 2023 model (i have had a couple of machines they gave me the renting period for free, when i pointed out the dangers and lack of service)

I have run a Cat 349 with a 78" bucket. It is quite a bit bigger than the 330. The empty bucket weighed 12,000 pounds and the machine is listed at around 110k pounds depending on how it is setup, according to cat specs. That bucket was so big that there was just barely room to smooth out the dirt in a Super 10 dump truck as the teeth would be almost touching the operator's side the and the back of the bucket close to the other rub rail. It only took 3 scoops to fill a truck. Unfortunately, while that machine had a display for the weight of material being moved, it was not setup or available so we had to estimate the weight and watch the returned weight tickets for the 4500 loads we hauled out of that job site.

hey man, quick tip and mandatory safety operating procedure, you always put your bucket, or any other attachment for that matter down when you're not operating the machine or someone is in your operating zone. Your operating zone is the max distance you can expand your boom, stick and bucket out and reach. Your wife is standing well within your operating zone to the point if you had swung to the right you would have hit her with the counterweight and the trees are tall enough that they could fall back towards her and potentially have serious consequences! This is really cool and I do not usually do this, I just noticed you had said "no training" and I had seen potential safety hazards. Stay safe!

Man, I hope you've invested in a large off road diesel tank that can be hauled in the back of a pick-up to feed all that thirsty heavy equipment !

I think you should work on pruning your view of the lake. Don't destroy all the trees but significantly thin them out. Thin everything you can within sight of your home. Next prune the property line. Can you do an areal view and draw some lines showing the property line. Then fly the drone around the property line and facing in. Maybe even draw up a map showing elevation.

Not sure if you’ll see this or not but with that hammer only hammer with it for no more then 30 secs at a time, then stop for about 5 seconds. This will help the hammer from over heating, by letting off for a few seconds it allows the hydraulic oil to work its way through the cooler and keeps the hammer from over heating. Make sure you use what ever hammer paste came with the rental or what the manufacturer recommends. I speak from 6 years (and counting) experience running them in a stone quarry for over 10 hours a day. Also that hammer paste can get expensive so make sure the greaser (if it has one) is adjusted correctly. They paste we use cost about $26 a tube for us one tube last about 4 hours.

In New Zealand we use a 20-30 ton digger in preferance to a bulldozer for forestry road builing, as it does the job better. You don't have the forestry "jailbars" on the windscreen so be careful you don't break a tree so it "barbers chair" on you and come throught the windscreen into the cab. Intresting channel, have fun and good luck.

Yellow metal is addictive! My last carreer was in erosion control and we used all kinds of heavy equipment, fun and scary. Such slight hand movements created such big results. Thanks for sharing.

I gotta wonder how many times the "what does that lever do?" gag works on delivery drivers? Seventy thousand pounds of steel....I think I am going to need a cold shower.

Guys you can use those trees as a fence. For the sides of the road like little ramps
