My family has a saying called "remember the octopus" because my aunt was working on an octopus sculpture and kept trimming the octopus legs to make them even. She was at it for hours. And when she was done the tenticals were just nubs. "Remember the octopus" means stop while you are ahead.

My family’s story is that one time we were in Chicago, my parents took me, my sisters, and my cousin to the American girl doll store. Walking back to the hotel with these giant bags, my cousin tripped and fell flat on her face on the sidewalk. This homeless man across the street started yelling from the top of his lungs “Don’t nobody laugh! Don’t nobody laugh! That girl over there just fell, but don’t nobody laugh! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!” She was so embarrassed, but we still tell that story like over 15 years later

a well known thing in my family even extended family that i don’t talk to is the fact that my great aunts house is incredibly “haunted” even people who claim they don’t believe in ghosts say something is extremely wrong there and almost everyone who’s been in it has had an experience. the most fun stories to listen to growing up were the stories about that house. could be why i’m a chicken now though😅

As someone who lived thru the christchurch earthquakes and the terror attack.... toilet earthquakes are deff a thing, and there is literally one person who was on their toilet and their bed was crushed by a chimney so the earthquake shit saved their life

My grandad knew Sam Walton, one day he had him come out to the original Walmart in Rogers Arkansas and he handcuffed a briefcase to his wrist with $10k in it and had him drive a new car to the bank to drop off the money. It’s a wild ass story we thought was fake til we read about it in his diary from the 50’s

My craziest / saddest is that my great uncle survived The Titanic only to be one of the last Americans killed in WW1 a few years later in France. Of course I never knew him.

my dad never misses a chance to tell anyone about the time that 18y/o me was NOT smarter than the monkey-proof sliding doors at our hotel and locked myself on our 2ft by 3ft balcony for 3 hours until he got back. so much disappointment. so many mosquito bites.
