Can’t believe it took me so long to try anything EVH. What EVH amp should I try and pick up? And massive thanks to DistroKid for being an amazing channel partner and for sponsoring today’s video! Get your music on Spotify and snag a bonus 7% off! distrokid.com/vip/agufish
As an older dude who grew up in the 80's/90's I appreciate you "getting" what that means in this video. Your reaction to this guitar is fantastic. Cool demo too
Great video as usual Hunter! Yes I've tried and owned a few EVH guitars. I've owned a Wolfgang special for years. Total work horse. Have played the striped and 5150 series. Fun guitars to play. Hopefully his son Wolfgang will keep the EVH brand going and even maybe release his line of EVH guitars he plays. Those look good.
2 of my fav YT guys working together!! I hope this happens again! Maybe the 2 of you in the same room even! EVH stuff is great. Love my 5150. Got the striped one some years ago. Smiles forever..... 😊
Hell yeah got one of these after I saw Cam and others playing it . Always wanted an EVH guitar and the purple model made me pull the trigger. Always wanted a purple guitar since I was a teenager with a kill switch! Now for the EVH pickups. At first they were fat and not distorted enough to my ear but over a day of jamming I'm now a huge fan of the Wolfgang stock pickups! they can pack a punch! Eddie knew what sound he wanted in his guitars and this one blew me away
Hell yeah love seeing the Collab with Cam! Dude is an amazing guitarist. Also this was one of your best demo songs ever. Over all I love the EVH stuff tonally. The necks feel good. I tried a Wolfgang standard one time. Other than it feeling very tiny. Like the size of a headless it was great.
Agufish, you 110% covered this axe! Been following you ever since you demo'd the Epiphone Inspired by 1955 Les Paul w/p90s axe back in 2017. Why you're not at at least 500,000 subscribers is a mystery!...I've been eyeing this particular EVH axe for awhile along with the purple and aqua burst. The lime green is just killer! Splendid demo, Agufish & thanks, Cam, for a killer shred demo!
I have a couple EVH guitars. Bought a Wolfgang special a few years ago and it is one of my most played guitars (out of 11). It is a grab and jam guitar, no apologies, no excuses. It plays and sounds great. I also have a Frankie custom shop that I fully relic'd. Same vibe, just grab it and jam, the music falls out of it. Sometimes basic function is far more useful than fancy.
i have a 2014 stipe circle b/w series 999.99$ i got in 2016......u could gig every day with it....solid guitar ......thanks evh.....as soon as i seen it for sale at long and mc canada....sold.....i'm in my late 50's .......80's metal.......
Pretty rad, Hunter. Your playing has improved. I'm impressed with your trying out tapping as a lead intro. Keep up the great work and the great content.
Another lover of the Mexico fretboard work here, I got a Player Plus Strat this year and the fretwork and rolled edges are immaculate Oh and the satin neck is just so nice to play.
bruh I've been playin 80s metal my whole life and you basically read the first paragraph of a wikipedia page on the genre and then played a perfect hair metal riff lololol
I brought a 2022 Wolfgang standard last year...been a Eddie fan since the 80's...but having a signature guitar was always outta my reach ...now having one I can't put it down,it's so much fun to shred.🙏🤘🎸
This looks friggin sweet. I have a red, white, black striped series EVH that I absolutely love. They are doing great things with these guitars. Great video man. Got me thinking about getting slimed. :D
Hey man! 👋 Cool Video. 😎 You probably should have mentioned that this guitar is basically a recreation of an old Kramer, though. The headstock and bodyshape is a dead giveaway. 😅
A little bit different, I have a 2018 Wolfgang Special in Orange Crush. Incredible guitar, literally can't put it down, super addictive to play. Just feels incredible, a player's guitar. So much fun to go through the VH catalogue - both eras - playing his tunes on it, sounds and feels amazing, fantastic craftmanship. Also have a complentary 2020 Charvel San Dimas type 1 which I also love to pieces, but also feels like a descendant of his "super-strat" ethos. I'm in guitar heaven.
'Specifically, 24-fret and hardtail-equipped iterations of the 5150 Series models, which were first developed as a nod to Eddie Van Halen’s original red-white-and-black Kramer original, are on the way.' Guitar World interview with WVH and EVH co-runner from Dec. 2022.
@@agufish they do have the shark which is hard tail, I’ve seen a few older Wolfgang models with hard tails, I’d love to see them do a affordable hard tail Wolfgang
I just played one of these earlier today when a band came to practice at my friend's house. The neck is a little thin coming from mainly Squiers but it is very fun to play and is and sounds great coming from hearing them play some hair metal live in the room with it.
I own two of the EVH striped series and will probably end up with either the Frankenstein or shark or a Wolfgang next, the fender/charvel guitars are in my opinion the best production guitars any one is making these days, they play so so good and sound so so good , and actually I don't really play anything hair metal so even the one pickup striped series are extremely versatile with the fact you don't lose the highs turning down and can actually clean up by the volume
This was like the Super sons! Damian and Jonathan teaming up! great stuff. These are killer guitars.. The only and I mean the only critique on these is the neck joint. The wolfgangs standards have the better neck joint.
Dude 👍😲 this was soo different and great. Awesome playing by you and Cameron. EVH 5150 stealth is fire 🔥 now you see evh is a serious guitar. Thanks for the review and deno 👊
Obviously WE most all love the neck n especially the headstock.. but im a more of double humbuckers at the bridge only n a single volume n thats it. N a fully recessed floyd drop d. Straight metal/hard rock axe. Thats what id want outta this style of guitar.
I always thought the shreddy bois like Jackson/BC Rich/Kramer have massive boomer energy nowadays. Like, they are the white monster and hurleys of the guitar world.
@@handicappedhoods Well the Boomers were born between 1940-1965, so if you were about 20-35 in the 80's you were a boomer, but I feel most of the late 80s teens would be Gen X, unless you consider Gen X begins with Grunge.
I purchased this one and liked it so much that I got another one in the black satin finish with ebony fretboard. I still like the green one better - it just plays better. But the satin black actually has better tone. Not sure if it is due to the no gloss finish or the ebony fretboard. But there is a noticeable difference in the two. For me however, playability trumps tone by just a skoach. So, yeah, the green one is my preference. I gotta say, the necks on these are magnificent! I have a Wolfgang Special too and the neck on it is perfect for smaller hands. But if you have regular size hands, the 5150 necks are a great choice that you won't regret!
i own a Wolfgang Special. Took a year to get, but finally took delivery in December. And in flawless condition no less. Its my number 1 go-to now. I own several Schecters, inlcuding an SVSS exotic which is an absolutely killer instrument. The Wolfgang beats them all. Its not a fanboy thing, its really that the guitar's design points just nail all the right areas. Its a breeze to play, its a no BS kind of barebones-got it where it counts- kinda vibe going on. Im a lefty so a 5150 for me isnt in the cards. But those design points that sold me on the wolfgang arent in the 5150, so.....I'd likely pass anyway. Great vid, thanks!
I just bought the Black Stealth model. I LOVE IT! I am an EVH fanboy to be honest. I have this model, the Frankie, the Evolution, and three Wolfgang Standards. They are awesome guitars. I have the Iconic combo amp as well. It is a great amp and comparable to the Peavey 5150 I had back in the day.
I have a Kramer Striker (MusicYo version) that has a D-Tuna and it's a fully floating trem. As for this guitar, I'm not a fan of the kill switch but I do like the position of the toggle switch. You can start on the neck pickup, do some tapping, and knock it into the bridge position with your forearm without having to stop tapping.
Like the guitar, love the track! Great choice for outsourcing, I have to say; I harkened back to the Eighties when it was a big deal for me to take my broke self to a concert -- and then get EXACTLY WHAT I CAME FOR!🤘😎 One interesting thing about the EVH's choice of pickups is the magnet composition -- particularly interesting to me since about a year ago I replaced the (actually really good sounding) stock high output ceramic humbucking pickups with a cheap but excellent sounding set of high output ALNICO II humbuckers. Each pickup lost a small amount of DC resistance and volume, but gained the characteristic chirp of the vintage Alnico-loaded PAF while retaining modern volume and sustain properties. If I didn't know for sure that EVH wouldn't have spied on me, I'd think they stole the idea from ME!😆
Great video! But you're wrong about the DTuna - you can abso look utely use it flawlessly on a floating tremolo. I have it and it works oerfectly well in a gotoh floyd rose, all the best
I appreciate that you did this demo. I’m sad that you think aspects of a style are “cheesy”. They are only cheesy if you are insincere. The emotion is one of wild freedom. Abandon. Summertime. Being *in love*. Unburdened. In the late 80’s, that music was very much abused and insincere. Maybe that is why a lot of it is misunderstood by the current generation. There is only so much one can do with any style once it has had time to be mastered and played by many. Yet like country and blues, it can be employed with great emotional effect - provided the one who delivers it is sincere. Cheers dude. I definitely appreciate you.
