Sorry for lack of consistent uploads recently, I have fallen Ill and need time to rest before I can make videos again.
This will probably be my last #fixtf2 video for a while as I really don't want to be seen as someone who is "milking" this genuine cause that I believe in. I love TF2 so much, and want to do all I can to help this protest. And I honestly think one of the best ways to do that is to tune back some of the FixTF2 videos.

Weird analogy since the whole Schrodinger's Cat thought experiment was a sarcastic facetious intellectual joke at Heisenberg's expense. The cat is Heisenberg's concept of quantum mechanics, the uncertainty principle, which was considered to be preposterous at the time. Einstein made the exact same joke, by saying God doesn't roll dice, or something to that effect. Anyhow, your analogy is weird, but your Idea is not wrong. Valve, by keeping the bot host in the dark as much as they keep the gamers in the dark... Sorta hides hidden variables that will only manifest once they update the game. My guess is they will have to make big changes to match making, code that prevents bots from the same IP network, etc... pattern detection for swarming, etc.. the basic stuff

Every single TF2tuber is firing off videos like individual nuerons each firing off and it is beautiful to see that the entire community has sprung to life! Also, I 1 billion percent agree that Valve's best move would be an internal response rather than an external, public response, and the doomers who say otherwise don't really get Valve's position right now.

I've always been a firm believer in "No news is good news." Honestly I think I'd be more concerned if Valve announced they'd be giving an official response in some capacity. For all the reasons you mentioned, but also because an official response could also mean an extreme measure like just fully dropping support for the game. (Not thst I see this as likely, just possible) I have to imagine valve is more than aware of the movement and the issue, and they're working behind the scenes to resolve it in some manner.

I see 3 possibilities: A) They really are just silently working on this, since announcing it would result in the bot hosters going into hiding; B) They are waiting until the current in-game event is over to announce the end-of-life for TF2; C) They just don't care.

Hot take - they should make TF2 paid again and roll out this change along with a massive ban wave. This should be unannounced until it is live so the bot hosters have no chance to prepare. People who already own the game wouldn’t need to buy it again.

@TF2Llama
@TF2Llama 2 месяца назад
@@wc5502 yeah, so this is a valid point. It would still be free for people who already own the game, but it could lead to casual becoming more serious over time and reduce the number of new players coming to the game. The judgement to make would be whether this is acceptable for stopping the bots. By having a fee for new players, the bot hosters would have to pay for each new account and this would provide funding for valve to hire someone to review reports and ban bots and improve anticheat. Of the ideas I’ve seen floating around, this feels like it would be the most effective approach to stop bots. That said, I don’t know how likely it would be for valve to go with this approach as it is a bad look to start charging for an old f2p game. The ideal would be for valve to get rid of bots without making tf2 paid. I’m not sure how likely this is to happen. It is treadmill work since each time valve adds something to the anticheat, the bot developers will try to find a way around that.

@@user-bb8fx2yh3k i've created a pretty detailed list of reasons why it won't work: 1) team fortress 2 is older than the majority of the people currently pushing this inane movement and is INFAMOUS for its spaghetti code. do you want to work on a game this old, shambled together using awful duct-tape fixes for everything? no. no one does. 2) developing functioning anticheat is a cat-n-mouse game at best and a sisyphean task at worst;. not even massive companies with several thousand employees can develop anticheat for modern games that remains undefeated, even kernel level anticheat can be bypassed these days. the treadmill work simply isn't worth it, considering tf2 barely breaks even money-wise 3) valve is a privately traded company. your complaning will to nothing to shift their actions. the only reason review bombing worked for helldivers 2 is because sony is publicly traded, meaning they had to answer to their shareholders. shareholders can sue the hell out of any company that isn't living up to expectations, thus sony had to buckle to the community. valve has no such weakness. steam alone makes so much money that a complete and total boycott of the tf2 marketplace wouldn't even make a fraction of a dent in their overall profits. 4) valve's unique horizontal structure guarantees that nobody will work on tf2 unless they want to be fired. in place of middle/upper management, valve has cliques and ego-driven senior devs that judge your decisions. choosing to work on tf2 instead of anything the senior devs prefer will almost certainly result in your termination from the company. that kind of work environment doesn't exactly facilitate the idea you can just get a job at valve and work on tf2 yourself. 5) we already have proof that this is a MASSIVE waste of time across the board. remember the last two attempts to get valve to notice you? you got a tweet. a single tweet. you got some updates, some bug fixes, and that was enough to silence you entirely. nobody championing this movement has the attention span nor the backbone to make something like this work, even *IF* valve could be moved through community action these days. 6) the game is in no way unplayable. community servers exist and will continue to exist for the foreseeable future. saying tf2 is unplayable is a straight up lie. community moderation has unfortunate side effects (like facilitating the abuse of power if you disagree with them about anything), but it makes it far easier to outright ban any bots. tl;dr: tf2 is old and full of spaghetti code so no one wants to fix it there's no such thing as good anticheat valve is privately traded so they can (and will) ignore your complaining valve's corporate structure disincentivizes working on tf2 there's no evidence the protestors even have the willpower to make this work community servers still exist and jannies, as annoying as they are, have more power to permaban bots
@Tommuli_Haudankaivaja

The Summer Update is going to be pivotal. If they do not fix the game by then, one of five things will happen. 1. Valve drops the Summer Update with some sort of fix. 2. Valve drops the update, well aware they haven't fixed the game but correctly assume the amount of people boycotting won't impact sales enough and they make enough money from the update they can just move on and keep updating. 3. Valve drops the update, and have the same mindset as option 2, but they turn out to be wrong. The backlash from the community is so bad that they lose money, or make so little it isn't worth the PR fallout. This is the least likely. There is no way they see the petition, trending hashtag, and review bomb, measure all of that, and then decide it is worth updating only for them to be wrong about how badly that goes. If this does somehow happen, they probably just leave the game with egg on their face and make no fixes or updates. 4. Option 3, but Valve realizes the error of their ways when it hits their bottom line and then fixes the game instead of moving on... again, unlikely - if they don't fix it by that point, I doubt they're going to fix it afterwards. 5. Valve does not release the Summer Update and doesn't touch the game again.
@lordjaraxxus5418
@lordjaraxxus5418 2 месяца назад
fixing the game by them means one of two things: 1. they had a fix in the works since #savetf2 (because that is how long I expect a lasting, no 1-2 day fix to develop). 2. the bots will be back in a week with a workaround.

If they made a vague response like before, sure, that would suck. However, if they communicated specifically about what they are planning to do, or what is happening internally or just gave us a good insight into their thought process on this matter, it would have massive potential to have a positive response from the community. But we know that Valve is incapable of communicating effectively, so sure staying silent is probably the better thing to do for them. Still the potential in effective communication is there. edit: The problem with Valve is that they are cowards. They are paralyzed by their fear of not delivering on their promises. They would rather be forever silent than actually give the community some info, because then people start having expectations and Valve can't handle that. Still, sometimes it's better to communicate and accidentally overpromise and then later potentially back down on your promises with effective communication and good reasoning.

Think about it, why would they even have a 64 bit update in the first place? I’m pretty sure they are highly focused on other things right now as the Steam summer sale is coming next week. Plus, we may get a response in the TF2 summer update.

I don't see valve doing that. For starters, if they announced ANYTHING publicly it would be a gun shot to the foot. Because now they take responsibility. They don't like that. And if they do that, cheaters would begin taking stuff off the web out of paranoia, then bring it back when they feel like it. So, the best option for Valve is to silently hire someone to work on the game, fix the game, and then pay them to maintain it. That way it's secret and tidy. ((Another option could be making a new code for TF2, messing with the bot hosters))

I personally think Valve might not do anything and try to sweep it under the rug. They don't want to do treadmill work and they made that very clear. I'll admit that if we're confirming an update, they have some band-aid fixes in mind to shut us up for a few years. It's one of those things where I'm sure they still love the game, there's still people working on it and it's very real that it hurts Valve to see the game in this state, but there's not much that they want to do and as a company, it's probably best to just let things run their course. Of course, that's me. I like to think from both sides and envision each sides reasons for doing things. I just don't see a world where Valve does anything other than a band-aid fix, if anything.

1:45 Cause them coming out and saying they're terrible for letting their games get this bad is a failure on them, not the consumers. They're selling microtransactions STILL while the bots have plagued us so they're still making money. So, in OBLIGATION to their JOB, they at the very LEAST should have these game have proper anti-cheating methods and keeping bot hosting shmucks from invading the casual servers. Them NOT responding makes them look like idiots as well, we have bot hosters flaunting at them cause they haven't done shit to stop them. If they take action stealthily then I'd fine with it since the bot hosters wouldn't get a heads up.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is what they're doing, given that Valve has silently been fixing Left 4 Dead 2 (DDOSing has mostly been fixed for now and haven't really announced anything about it, just rolling out patches without a word)

I'm seriously getting tired of people not understanding not only how hard it is to stop hackers constantly staying ahead of programmers when it comes to manipulation of the source code but the fact that despite running a separate program within the game the bots are not exploiting anything to log into an account and play a game. Either they revamp the entire system which would include making it harder to sign in without several layers of verification thus cutting it off from the average Community player or shut the whole game down and start over from scratch.

I agree but for more pessimistic reasons - the original savetf2 movement was genius in one way, and that was because it encouraged the mindset that "no response is still a response. Even if Valve completely ignore the movement, we've still won because we've proved they aren't interested in fixing the issue and we can move on to other games (or TF2 Classic)" The ONLY way it could have failed is if things turned out... basically the way they did, where Valve give an obligatory response and a token effort at fixing the game for a day or two, and then the bots catch back up again straight afterwards. I've been going through FixTF2 with the same mindset, and even if nothing is done, we still have our answer to whether Valve care about fixing the bot crisis. If TF2 has to die, then I say let it, and move to TF2 Classic if need be, because that's still better than seeing it still live in the state it's currently in.

VALVE doesn't do any communication. Even if they have bombastic amazing news to share with us (see Half Life Alyx). They just dropped a trailer and twitter announcement for it out of the blue, after 17 years of silence about the future of the franchise.

Well apparently Valve is getting sued for $840 million due to outsourcing and having steam being a monopoly through forcing studios to sell their games only on their network. So that is two public Crisis’ for Valve, #FixTF2 and the Lawsuit.

It's a failure if the bots still persist, period. The response is still needed to go in the right direction. I agree it won't be the end all be all, but it's better then getting nothing. After a response is phase 2, which is to hold them at their word and know it's not over as long as bots persist. Regardless of protests, I think they will fix the game by moving onto tf3, but when? 2 years, 5, 10? I think this is just all a major inconvenience for Valve, and they are simply not ready/willing to do big changes. Especially with old software that hackers will most likely find work arounds with. It sucks as player, but I don't really see anything big within the next few years. Even without bots, the game is unbalanced, so they might as well just redo the whole thing and carry over our backpacks. But that will take even more time. Maybe if people review bomb and don't buy their new game it could force their hands, but idk.

Short-term fixes that could be done but are still only bandaids and are highly controversial. 1) Make the game cost $5 to $10 to play per account. Assumeing you got the game for free. 2) (trigger warning) ban sniper.

There isn't a response that Valve can give that would satisfy the community. They used up all of their card two years ago back at SaveTF2. Public statements are no go. Admission of guilt, denial, or corporate speak would be met with criticism. They ain't gonna promise fixes they either aren't certain they can implement or know damn well aren't going to work on. They can't even send a PR person down to the handful of people protesting at their offices because they already did that and it would be met with criticism. Their best strategy is simply to wait for the movement to die down. TF2 youtubers can't keep the train going forever, the consoomers aren't gonna stop buying keys and MvM tickets, and the general infospace is already forgetting about this. I'm not optimistic that they would do address the actual issues that caused this protest. They have no real reason to.
