This is a great book with a lot of good construction tips The sheds featured in this book are probably built better than most peoples' homes. ru-vid.comUgkxzaRUJNcbypw-fRBDbqqz43ULIa-1EGP- The author uses only the best materials and methods. It proved to be a great resource for my little 8' x 10' shed project and more 400+ plans. @@lollorosso4675 And prices in other cities are also exploding. A newly built condominium (approx. 90m² / 968.75 sq ft) in HH costs about as much as this property with both houses. And then the apartment is not in a particularly exclusive area. Speaking of exclusive, as a European I didn't know that radiators with heated towel rails were seen as a luxury;) Maybe it's not a luxury here because radiators instead of AC units are more the standard here.

don't get me wrong, this home turned out absolutely beautiful and I understand that designing to sell often calls for very neutral design but as a preservation designer, it kills me a little to see a home with so much character get turned into such a generic modern house. plus y'all could've saved money by applying for tax credits if you restored the historic character of the property.

Hey guys why all the hate? Yeah there are some issues we can see but that is why most people let the new homeowners make a punch list for things that they see that are wrong or bother them, they come back and change it or repair it etc. Chances are they even went back and made more adjustments even after the video was made and before showing it. When you do this type of work you are honestly never finished you keep making adjustments and improvements constantly until you hand over the keys that is just the way it is. The house is not my style I don't like the farmhouse/modern or whatever it is and there are many things I could pick out about the decor I don't like but why sit here and do that when I don't have a few million to buy it?

The original house was a Sears and Roebuck kit home called “the Bellewood,” that was very popular in the 1930’s. The Bellewood was considered a pocket sized English cottage. This style and others like it were “between the wars” houses and the architects drew inspiration from British influences of the time. As such, a pocket English cottage looks off, with this renovation. It’s always best to stay true to period, but sure, with a modern twist. They went Contempo. Most buyers don’t know the difference anyway. It will look very dated in a decade. I feel mean spirited saying this and I’m very sorry. Restoration or Customization? Choose wisely.

@CarlTippins
@CarlTippins 3 года назад
They might as well of torn the darn thing down. For those of us who love old houses, they ruined the front exterior. Fix up the existing front exterior, replace the cladding, add the porch, but destroy the roofline, oh no! Not only that, from what you can see of the surrounding properties, it also no longer fits in with the other properties in the neighborhood. If Austin has designated Historic Districts, this property obviously wasn't part of one. No property in an Historic District would have ever been allowed to change the exterior like this. And if they do allow it, they're a crappy Historic District. I own a 1936 house in Phoenix. I can't do ANY permanent changes to the exterior that can bee seen from the street. And I live on a corner, so that's 2 sides I can't change. What a shame! I wouldn't allow them to touch any of my properties if this is how they "respect" history!!

I feel the same way .I'm not saying it's not pretty but the slope of the roof in the front was so precious and that was the one thing they could have left and they didn't .I know the inside was trashed but the roof line could have stayed and I'm sure many more things could have been made the same way as it was .It's just not anything special now because the way it was before made it very special and unique ,what a shame .

My professional opinion as an architect- you stripped this house of everything it made it unique and fun. Exterior before was absolute banger and surprisungly modern (or maybe it's modernity that's finally appreciates this kind of style). After... it just is. There's plenty of boring afters like that. It pretends to be something that is not, pseudo mcmansion with pointless stone work and that imbalanced porch. And the archway... don't let me start on the archway. In the end, you took soemthing that was unique and magical, hidden to be discovered and turned it into absolute whatever with manicured unimaginative flat lawn. Awful. I was juuuust about to say the same :) Renovated, yes, but they ruined a unique element that should've made this property one of a kind in that area. Instead they've made it into just another boring bungalow-looking common prefab house not worth more than maybe 450k. Windows are dull and ordinary and the furniture and lights are not that unique either and in fact, look sub-standard. They are not 'high-end'. 'Garden' is a disappointment.

I so agree! All of the charm is gone in this home. The scale is off in many areas. They totally messed up the front facade. Building the large front porch draws attention to how close it is to the house next door and makes it look way too big for the lot. With porches on the back they didn't need the large porch on the front. The original design shouldn't have been changed so much. It still could have had a larger entryway built, but it needed that extra room and separation where the tree was. The fireplace mantle is too large in scale compared to the small windows on either side. Also, I think that the pendants are a big fail. They looked good online, but this ceiling is too low for them, and the pendants are too large and low-hanging for that island. Hard to believe someone paid that much for this house in one day, but that's crazy Austin for ya! I guess good on them for making a huge profit. Even the house in the back sold for too much in my opinion.

@@star999nine You're free to hate it, but that does not justify destroying it. If you hate this style, don't buy a house with it. There are plenty of people who do appreciate this style and plenty of houses with more modern rooflines to go around. Also, English cottage style is very in right now and could easily be accomplished in a modern interior remodel. Look up the Pine and Prospect home as an example.

@@star999nine Did I ever tell you you're not allowed to be critical? It's not like I reported your comment for removal. You're allowed to be critical of the OP's opinion, and I'm allowed to respond to that criticism with my own opinion on the house. Isn't that what we're doing here? It's okay to disagree on things.

Why does this just feel like a rejected HGTV audition pilot episode?

I came here to say exactly this. The guy is trying wayyyy to hard to be cool and I think she's trying to match his energy and it's not coming off authentic at all.

Why are people bothered that they didn't choose to remodel/preserve the house? It was already gutted from the start

It’s not the interior so much (although they did make it all tacky trendy bullshit) it’s that the old exterior was well designed and had character and charm. The new exterior is full of incongruous design (the stone archway is atrocious). It’s not just that they made something ugly, they had to ruin something beautiful in the process

@@Crazyarchfiend you, me and the original commenter agree on this. And the buyers too. That old house was an ugly outdated thing on the outside and gutted already on the inside where not damaged by pets. It's an improvement with the changes they made.

@@Crazyarchfiend I also agree, I live in an old neighborhood with lots of great old bungalows and I absolutely love old homes. The old exterior of this was not cute, it was in bad shape, and had probably been changed multiple times. I think people in the comments are living in a little bit of a fantasy world about what is sellable… or even what is truly ‘historical’
