I have a recommendation John, since there are future plans to build a chapel at Thunder Canyon, we should give it a serious consideration to build strong enough to also provide emergency shelter for events like Tornados. The entire Thunder Canyon community can gather at the church building. What better place can we be than God’s House?

Wow, glad everyone is OK! Really reminds us of last May when we visited Thunder Canyon. On our drive home, we stopped at a Cracker Barrel in Kansas for the night. On our drive home we passed through several areas with tornado watches, but we just found a safe place to wait out the storm. This time it was a tornado warning and we did not know what to do. But God was definitely with us, we went back inside and talked to the manager, who said if the sirens went off we could come into their walk-in refrigerator, where all the staff took cover - and they even had a place for our cat! The storm actually missed us but just barely. We got to sit on their porch and watch the lightning and hail storm, knowing that God would keep us safe! That was our introduction to RV life!

Glad nobody was hurt. The highest wind gust here was 82mph. While snow has only been a minor inconvenience. The storms, have been far worse than usual. There were some killed around here by falling trees. As always, may God bless and keep you and your family.

I stayed in a campground in Tennessee about 3 years ago and we had a tornado warning go off at 5:30pm(Dixie Alley) There was a restaurant on the property constructed of 18 to 20 diameter logs with rebar reinforcement. When we arrived we were instructed to go there for shelter when the alarm went off. Great way to meet all of the other campers.

One day in Wyoming it was go to town day, usually went in the morning but I had a sincere spirit felt feeling that I should wait. So I went in the afternoon. 5 miles from home a tornado had crossed the hiway, wiping out all the big trees along a creek as far as I could see. In town 70 miles away, in Cheyenne a tornado ripped a swath about 500 ft. wide as far as I could see. Leaving fences looking like a scissors had cut sections our precisely and every tree sliced off for as far as I could see. I still feel thankful for the Spirit speaking to me that morning. (I had not heard any warnings through radio, did not own a t.v.) So glad you're safe!

Another idea that might help is paying attention to where you see major runoff and as you can afford it build drains to divert the water from to areas that need protection. Of course it will take time, money and resources but it might help down the road. I agree with other comment about making your church a storm shelter.glad everyone is okay. That’s the most important thing.

about 2 yrs back we were in south dakota camping in a trailer park, when a tornardo warning sounded , i rushed into action to protect my rig and truck, i used 20,000# strips over the top of the trailer into screw anchors in the ground, the anchor screwed down about a foot into the ground there were 3 for the trailer and 2 or the truck . we loaded into the rangers back bed and went to a save place. before we left i opened all windows so there would not be pressure on the trailer, closed windows blow out!, i also made from silver tarp material a splash screen for the windows on the inside and laid down paper towels around the windows on the inside, with some appliances on the counter top to hold down the paper towels. when the tornardo passed, our trailer was the only one standing up , damage was some branches and leaves on the side only. some people stated that is over kill, but its better this then not going home without your rig.

I have seen a few. Many years ago my parents had two go through their place while only taking out a few trees on their property. The neighbors we not so lucky on the second one. About a mile down the road it took out a few buildings and a mobile home park. One life was lost. I am glad you are OK and I hope everyone in your community is also. May God continue to be with you, through the good and the bad.

I’m praying for you guys! The end of this video gave me chills. One thing I have learned about tornadoes is that when you see the green/blue sky; there’s a tornado coming at or near you. I’m in Talladega County- Central East in the mountain range. We purposely dug in the side of the slope surrounded by hilltops on all sides praying that tornadoes will go over us instead of smashing us. Water flow control is paramount to safety. I’m sure you will get it figured out. Anywhere you have drainage pipes that aren’t getting water during and after a storm- best to alter that ditch so that it works. Edit: But, even the best systems can be overloaded during a deluge of water. Thanks for putting up the videos, and also being passionate about our Lord!! You asked for opinions- mine is that we should be aware of what’s going on and prepare because the signs are everywhere and not all people notice it due to every day life, strife and changes. However, God charged us Christians with faith, hope, love and charity for others. Panic is going to happen, but prayer just might be the answer along with preparation. ❤ Take care! May God Bless you both and your community.

We camped at Sandusky Ohio KOA one summer. A very bad storm rolled through overnight. In the morning, I stepped out of the camper into knee high water! In the shower facility, another camper, with a tent, was saying how he woke up floating on his air mattress! Proper drainage is so important, especially in campgrounds! Prayers coming your way for a resolution to your problem! God Bless you and Thunder Canyon! 🙏

We check at campgrounds, especially in the South, and most have a shelter. (Usually the bath house) You just need a sturdy place anchored with no windows. Usually an inner bathroom with no windows works. We did have one campground…the Thousand Trails one in Arley, AL that had some metal buildings anchored against the side of a hill with benches inside. In my house we have no basement we go to the closet under the stairs.

Weather is not to be taken lightly. In our Super C motorhome a few years back we were on I-80 out west, and a bad thunderstorm ramped up to a warning in just a few minutes. We listed like a sailboat in full tack. There was no place to hide out on the high plains. I learned options for escape are critical when you can't get to a safe shelter. The box truck in front of us went over; the tanker truck stayed on its wheels as it was loaded. We stayed on our wheels as well. Having a storm shelter on the property is a great addition and should be part of the planning going forward if it's financially possible. Good luck on the repairs, be safe doing the work.

I am full-time 5th wheel living NW of Houston. Last year we had a tornado cone through, RIP off commercial A/C units off of commercial buildings, flip cars/trucks around, and came through ou RV park, ripped a very old tree out of the ground and hit RV near it, came across directly for my RV, wow powerful wind on my RV , lifting things up and tossing all around, even very heavy items. Since then I am very cautious where I put RV and those near me - never will I be near trees or folks with lots of things around exterior of their RV to fly through the air and into my RV and windows.

My wife and i keep an orange "go bag" and everyone knows the drill to get out of our rig quickly in case of a tornado or fire. We do practice safety and have first aid equipment, fire extinguishers and a device to suck out obstructions for choking. The bath house at our resort is the best bet for tornadoes as they are built strong. ~Scott, Cherryl and sons~

We were in a 22' TT on the side of a mountain during hurricane zeta. It was terrifying. Trees were falling. One tree crushed a tiny cabin and thank God no one was in it. The electric box literally blew up and put black smoke on the side of our camper when a tree fell on the line. I took my daughter and put her under the table. The acorns sounded like bullets. We lived through it and the next morning all the campers were checking on each other. No power, no phone, no cell, no wifi. It was beautiful to see everyone come together though. Never want to go through that again Lord willing. ❤

Not that I know the actual conditions, but even if you can't dig a basement, a "daylight basement" can be built adjacent to the hillside, with a safe, shelter roof, covered with some kind of an upstairs building. A stairway to the downstairs would be helpful, but to be able to drive or walk to the "daylight" entrance downstairs would make it more like the library shelter. It would be accessible to crippled people, that way, so, so much the better. Unlike when we were growing up, Alabama is now in the middle of Tornado Alley. Yesterday, Nashville was in the middle of the system, all day long, but although we got very strong winds all day (8-10, if not more, fence panels were blown down here!), we had no actual storms. Good to hear you intend to build a shelter for your guests, and help them find the existing shelters until you do. Eider always reminds me of when my cousin and his wife lived in Section, near the scary, high bridge to Scottsboro, back in the 1970s, after the army. He made some awesome paintings of the area. And it reminds me of when my mom and Chrystal, a girl from the children's home she worked in, went to the last, Alabama "June Jam" in Fort Payne.

We've lived in a somewhat tornado area most of our lives. We've also been in a campground that was flooded. One of the safest places on our property in my RV garage because of the poured concrete walls and reinforced steel beamed roof, but we have a basement with a safe room as well. My issue with the safe room is that I am claustrophobic and it is not very big. I knew a guy who had a basement in solid rock that the dynamited to build.

We get high winds in Alaska at our home all the time. Biggest thing keep no trees 🌳 🌲 around the house/building/power lines. We get blizzards because it whips the snow ❄️ all over like crazy and piles it wherever it wants to so could be in front of all your doors 🚪 & windows 🪟 & venting system. I would put some storm shelters put in. We had an under ground shelter & above ground shelter in our home in Missouri that we had.

Consider putting in tie-down points for the RVs. Four concrete footins, or 6' long ground screws, so that nylon tow straps or rope can be run over each RV when high wind conditions are forecast. That's how marinas secure boats on land in storm season. Or consider adding kits of 4 ground screws plus webbing for sale. Any RV really should be carrying a set for high wind/storm security.

It seems to me that you could upgrade your fellowship hall for storms fairly inexpensively by having plywood or other storm covers for the windows, and if accessible add storm ties to the rafters to the walls. I have often read that the best protection for structures is to make sure the roof is very strongly attached to walls. If you wish to offer some protection to RV's, you could install what I have always heard them called, "hurricane ties". These are anchors that are similar to the ones used by utility companies for guy wires. It looks like an auger for about 4 to 6 inches at the bottom and rod about 3 feet long with a loop on the top. You simply screw it into the ground then attach a strap going over to a second anchor on the other side of whatever you are trying to hold down. It is my understanding that these are code requirements in mobile home parks. Glad no downed trees, so far at least. And especially glad you all are okay.

the house you live in is very safe for tornado. And you should install a fall out shelter at the site.

Having lived in Houston TX as a kid, a tornado hit our house one night. It was one of the scariest things I've ever been through. And yes, it sounded like a train without the whistle. I'm so glad ya'll are ok! Whatever the cost, find a way to build some kind of shelter. Something is better than nothing. And start believing God for a really secure structure that can handle an F5, something where everyone in the campground can go. In the meantime, we'll all keep praying for a hedge of protection around your campground! Oh, and I like the idea that others mentioned of putting the shelter in with the chapel. That's a cool idea!

Several years ago our seasonal site at a camp ground was hit over 1/2 of the campers were damaged or totaled but everyone made it to the tornado shelter 8 minutes after the sirens went off the campground was hit.sadly the campground that I’m at now has no shelter you have to drive into town to the fire station. This is in Minnesota. I take tornado warnings seriously

@@RVOddCouple it's more of a blues lick. But 70's disco style. The reason why I like this song because in New Zealand, it's more like a survival thing. Everyday out on the road, the more your van is a target.

Have you checked with the County EMA to see if they can help with a grant for a Tornado Shelter?
@HughMadBro
@HughMadBro Год назад
Was thinking the same.. it's March though, grants are usually done at the beginning of each year. If they can make it big enough for their people PLUS passer by's/The community I dont see why they wouldn't help foot the bill. They got the land & they're willing to build 🤷🏼‍♀️ what's meant to be will be!

Welcome to living in the south where this is a normal occurrence with quick weather changes. You will get used to it after a few years. And as you've discovered basements are not an option unless you have the extra funds to build one.

I may not have a real clue about this, but maybe a steel shipping container would be a good emergency shelter if it was anchored to the ground and fitted with a sturdy door and something like a Jackery and some LED lamps and maybe a radio. That would be sufficient, especially if you put some bottled water and a camp toilette inside it. I don't know how much one of them costs or what it would cost to fit it with a door, but it couldn't be as much as a building.

I was in a our very small camper last night during a severe thunderstorm that turned into a tornado warning! I was honestly scared to death!! The wind and rain were INTENSE and STRONG!! This little camper rocked several times so hard I was afraid it might flip…….. my husband works nights, so I was here by myself with our 2 pets…. I didn’t have a clue what to do as we’ve only been in our camper for 3 weeks since selling our home! I couldn’t hook up and flee, and had no idea where to flee to!! We are getting a new camper - a bit newer and bigger - this coming week, but we definitely need to figure out a game plan if weather turns bad again……! I wish we had a safe place here where we’re staying…..
