Thank you for doing this! I was going to purchase the No Evil one, but after watching your video, I am able to make a better decision and go for the TJ one instead!
This is my fourth year vegan. I've seen the small field roast one and I've never tried it so I'm so glad you made those video. My question is which one would you recommend smoking? We smoke turkeys during the holidays.
9 years Vegan and I am a Field roast fan, Tofurkey is ok but I prefer to use Field Roast for the meat and we usually love sweet potatoes, white potatoes, Mushroom gravy Vegan pumpkin pie and coconut whipped cream. Not all things are totally vegan but most are
My wife and I have been vegan for over 14 years now and for the last 4-5 Aldi has had that same vegan "Turkey" cutlets every holiday season. We generally just get a box of these for $3-4, make some homemade mashed potatoes and gravy, steam some veggies, and my wife makes homemade pumpkin garlic knots as a roll, and homemade cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie for dessert. It's been a yearly meal plan for every Thanksgiving and best of all it's CHEAP! I've had Tofurkey's before but the $20 price tag I just can't bring myself to purchase it, same for Field Roast, and others in the video. Plus, I hate having leftovers and this is the only time of year I purchase any products like this so I'm fine with it. Sure, a Tofurkey, or whatever is going to taste better but on a day where you have pounds of food and a limited stomach capacity I don't mind.
My nephews & I (the only vegetarians in my family) had vegetarian "chicken" patties for Thanksgiving for years, until I discovered the Gardein Turk'y roast a few years ago, which I love. I found them on sale at my local co-op about a month ago for $5.99 (8 servings + gravy). My only dilemma is the time & temp to cook it in an airfryer - advice welcome!
This is my fourth vegan Thanksgiving and I still haven't tried any of the vegan turkey's. I have always been a sides and stuffing girl even before I went plant-based. Looks good though!!
My number one fave brand for vegan meats is Field Roast. Amazing hamburgers and all sorts of sausages. But love Tofurky roast cooked in the fireplace, just like s’mores. The taste is really good. Much better than in the stove. Love their deli meats. Thank you for the information and entertainment. Got many giggles!
I would never buy any of those Roasts simply because they are stuffed. I learned 50 years ago to roast turkey without stuffing. I would make separately and discovered I preferred stuffing not be in the bird & it took less time to roast the turkey. The reason I don't want it stuffed is that it wouldn't make a satisfactory sandwich. But I do appreciate your doing the research, though.
This was very helpful, thank you! I didn't even realize the abundance of vegan turkeys! I also like the longer-length format because then each product is reviewed very thoroughly and thoughtfully, and you give us very good insight into each product before we go and try to buy them ourselves. :)
My local Walmart has a whole freezer display of Gardien brand tofukey, I'm trying to slowly go vegan so this year is going to be my first vegan Friendsgiving meal. Thank you so much for the review!
Walmart offered the Gardein roast for $12.98, it should not be judged on your list of taste versus cost. SO, you need to get a better handle on reasons not to buy it. Also, Wholefoods always have it on sale during the holidays for around $13.00. Again, cost should not be the reason you rate it lower.
@@ladieessence me too. I hope my judgment and observation is wrong, but it’s almost as if she’s his narcissistic supply. I may be imposing. But I can’t stand it.... it’s sad.
I’m not vegan but I have been vegetarian for 6 years. The second celebration roast is what I usually get (from Kroger). I am the only vegetarian in my family so it’s the perfect size to have leftovers. I have found that I like the taste a lot better when it’s prepared in a crockpot with vegetables and cream of mushroom soup. It has better flavor and isn’t as dry. I also really like that this product is made with wheat gluten instead of soy.
I will say that I didn’t like it very much the first time I had it. It had a dog food smell to it, but after finding the best way to prepare it (in a crock pot), I really look forward to having it at the holidays
One product you should try if you are trying sub.turk'y, is Gardein Turk'y cutlets, I love the cutlets but the gravy is way too herby for my taste, too strong in flavor. I have the cutlets as they are easy to prepare. The next thing you need to do is make a turk'y sandwich with the turk'y you like best.
love the little Gardein minis, but the Trader Joe's roast is the best of all I have tried. And the TJ's roast comes with a recipe on the box for cooking it in the oven with onions, carrots and potatoes. And THAT is how you do it. Good review, and thanx for your efforts.
I made the TJ’s version today and instead of making the gravy as gravy, I put it all on top for the last 20 minutes of cooking. I loved it and it was only $13.
We have tried Trader Joe’s and the Gardein one. I love the Trader Joe’s one and my partner loves the Gaardein one. We do Gardein for Thanksgiving, and Trader Joe’s for Christmas. I want to taste the Field Roast after seeing your review.
I needed this! I was too nervous to grab the TJ’s roast this past weekend. Like you both I’ve never had a vegan roast but I wanted an “entree” this year. I’m happy to know it is a winner 🙌🏾 Thank you both for doing this.
The guy is like triggering me or something lol he reminds me of my ex husband , his "personality" type. He seems degrading & aggressive just in his tone. You can tell she is "watching" what she says back to him because she knowsss he's an a$$ to her & she's embarrassed & doesn't say anything back/laughs it off. He has to contradict almost everythinggg she says , like wow, I couldn't make it through the video , it's cringy and yeah, I hope he's nicer to him off camera. Yikes. 🙈👎🏻
Thanks guys for doing this.!!!!..I always wondered about the other vegan turkeys.. I have only used Trader Joe's turkey less roast and I love it...I wouldn't buy another kind. I toss it on a bed of chopped pie pumpkin, butternut squash, carrot and different kinds of sweet potatoes including the Japanese one purple on the outside cream colored on the inside my all time favorite one.. a little bit of olive oil....and seasonings..and roast them together. I just bought flavored olive oil from Aldi...$2.99 so I will be using that... Also I love Trader Joe's haricots verts green beans...it's the best with their gourmet fried onions.. ..
Hello, I enjoy watching you both. You add entertainment and information. I literally value you guys' options on what to buy for lunch and dinner and run to buy your top favorites. I tried the Field roast celebration with the traditional bread stuffing and Gardein holiday roast and I was surprised with both, so I'm going to make both for Thanksgiving and save for leftovers after thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving!!
Field Roast Holiday Roast is my favorite. I found a new flavor. Sage and Garlic. I like the gardein ones too but they pretty much tast like the nuggets
I’ve tried the aldi turkey-less breast and the tofurkey and love both. I didn’t notice the same mustard/Mayonnaise flavors that you guys described. I’m intrigued to try the other ones you guys reviewed. Appreciate this review video!
The Whole Foods 365 vegan roast was a bit! "Real" turkey like flavor. It didn't taste like a vegan hot dog at all. It smelled so good, just like a "real" turkey while baking in my oven. As far as the gravy it tasted like the typical nutritional yeast gravy which I absolutely hate. So I added so sauteed onions a bit of soy sauce and some onion and garlic powder to it. My additional seasoning improve the gravy flavor. I highly recommend. Thanks for testing for us ☺️
We had both Gardein and Tofurkey for our first thanksgiving 3 years ago. They were both good, but our favorite was Gardein. Since the kids don’t like the stuffing, we buy their turkey cutlets for the kids and do the roast for ourselves.
LOVE the video! It's THAWING, to UNTHAW would be to freeze! We had the TJs roast last year and I thought it was a 6.5/10, pretty good. The other night I was craving Thanksgiving, so I bought the Gardein turkey cutlets with gravy, not one that you tried, and they are pretty darn ok. I have also had the Field Roast Hazelnut cranberry roast en croute and it was REALLY good. This year I am going to make a lentil loaf with cranberry sauce wrapped in puff pastry, always tastes better homemade.
More eating less talking please! I'm with Andrew. Honestly we can google the ingredients and instructions ourselves. This video was an hour and 20 minutes of indecisiveness.
This will be my first vegan Thanksgiving! Funnily enough, in December before I did Veganuary, I was dreading what being vegan would mean for holidays. Now, I'm excited to try a vegan roast! And my mom might help me make some vegan sides as well ☺️ hopefully I can convince some people to try it with me 😋
For the first time my whole Omni family did all vegan dishes with us. It’s been mostly vegan there last two years. We did potluck style this year and my brothers girlfriend actually made the greenbean casserole fully from scratch! Everything was so good. Last year my mom thought her husband wanted the green bean casserole with the usual dairy cream of mushroom and cheese on top, but that ended up being the only thing he didn’t eat! So she didn’t even bother this year 🤣 I tried the Trader Joe’s for the first time and enjoyed it, but my daughter didn’t love it
I had the trader Joe's for Thanksgiving and Christmas last year and it's so good. The gravy was good, too. I had to add a little salt to and whisk it. Thanks for going over the allergens. I'm allergic to soy, as on soy protein or isolate. I can have soy sauce and that's what in the gravy. Most of the others had soy protein, so I haven't tried those. I need to head over and grab one!!
Her spirit seems so full of light and sweet, stay smiling and kind baby girl, I see you! She seems authentic and genuine. Not bothered and annoyed. 😊✨🍃💕
So I totally agree SOMO2 , if watch them they have a playful side and laugh often together! Everyone is different and we need to learn to love our differences!
Thank you for uploading this. It was a tad bit long to me. The wife is kinda long winded. I like the channel, will continue to watch some but condensing a little would be cool to me. Enjoyed the reviews tho
Thank you for making this video! This is my first year being vegan and it was so helpful to find out which ones were your favorites. I can’t decide between Fieldroast and TJ’s, but I can’t wait to try one or both of them now.
@@MakeItDairyFree have access to around %50. They are around %50 more expensive because of shipping distance. I'll probably be making my own this year:)
I made the No Evil roast yesterday, and it was incredible! I did take it out of the freezer, put it in the refrigerator overnight, and then let it thaw on the counter for about 10 hours during the day. Maybe it was dry because you cooked it for so much longer than recommended, but I noticed that it did not mention whether or not to defrost it on the box also. I used my own gravy recipe too! It does not look visually appealing for sure... Thanks for reviewing these! I am so happy to see this many plant-based options available.
@@pugtales SO GOOD! I bought a second one to make for my whole family on Thanksgiving. I used the broth that I cooked the Pardon in to make the gravy! Came out perfect.
Thank you both for sharing i had the tur'ky cutlets from gardein it was very good..this was my 1st vegan Thanksgiving they've got my approval ..i love gardein products😊
The Gardein individuals are the exact same thing. It just offers a small serving. Does make sense when you just need a small serving and YOU need to check more than one store for pricing because Wholefoods offers it for $7.98. SO, it puts it right in line with Walmart and wholefoods pricing for the large one.
