I've been a private military and government security contractor for 28 years for the United States Government and I can honestly say that the security guard from that area has something to do with what happened on your farm. He should have known what to do from the start was at least to call the manager. He made sure to do the robbery as soon as the new guards came before they learned what to do. Sorry for your lost.

I have been building the whole 2021, one tip I was given was never to leave building materials on cite overnight. I deposited money to the trusted hardware stores and only got material I needed on a daily basis . Please avoid putting a large amount of expensive material on cite for your workers safety and temptation to steal. It could have been an inside job by your workers (highly likely).

So sorry to hear about this, Korewa. I was watching a farm video from a young woman farming in Uganda and someone in the Livestream asked what the single most important tip was for running a farm. What did she say... Never hire from the nearby villages, because they may be pressured or even forced to collude with local criminal element. It made sense, but now after hearing your story, I will take that extremely seriously. I hope your effort continues and is very successful. Just because the stole some items, don't let them steal your dream, too!

I'd get rid of all the local hires for that reason and more; they're the ones most likely to pilfer from you on an ongoing basis, once you start production. They're better positioned to create a network for readily and quickly converting stolen chicken into cash than workers who aren't locals. Also, and this is hard to share, a close friend who's started multiple ventures in GH since he return from the US some 30 yrs ago mentioned that he's disinclined to hire the better educated locals, b'cos they've invariably been the source of heartaches WRT the better organised criminal activities he's encountered in doing business in GH. As for who-done-it, it probably was organised, or sponsored by a fellow poultry farmer, who would readily receive and convert the stolen goods to value on his, or her farm. That's vile, but very real in our operating environment, if you happen to be a fellow Ghanaian investor. Thanks for sharing. I particularly appreciate your keeping it real, to help others better manage risk in our environment.

I lived in some really bad outlaw areas and also am a Nana in south Ghana. Security is a big concern for me and my own FARM. When I lived in Ireland in both city and on our farm we were robbed many times years ago. When living in south of Italy I lost everything due organised crime. Unfortunately, our robbery had the similar hallmarks as this. We just arrived in the new home and unloaded our Truckloads weeks before. We had arranged prior armed 24/7 security but they disappeared after our robbery. However, nobody was hurt as we were unfortunately away for a long weekend at the time. After these experiences, I knew one best weapon is due diligence and a few well trained dogs. However, security does need full vetting and proper training, and especially how to handle strangers, well trained dogs and the locals. My advice for those who have new truckloads of material arriving at a new location, add a few global ID tracker tag chips.

To answer your question, I do believe that the enemy that orchestrated this crime is close and is among the suspects that you named. This is not a random act of violence and robbery. I will encourage the OP to hire a professional security service; by Ghana standards, this is a big operation she is running and will need to put some security structures in place. I foresee this happening again without a solid countermeasure. This will be difficult to ask but if she has the strength, I will encourage her to get a private investigator to get to the bottom of this. She could hire a retired CID or a military (police) officer. The "give it to God thing" does not work.

I reside in the Caribbean and have had a layer farm in the 1970's. My son now has a meat poultry farm in a different location. My security was to display a sign which said "$1,000.00 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who steals from this farm" The sum mentioned was large enough to draw attention, but not excessive to create false claims. This farm was easily accessible to people in the village. My son's current farm is at the end of our road, his house is part of his farm and my house is immediately preceding. But there is difficult foot access from another area. His security is 4 large dogs and incomplete fencing. Neither farm has had any significant problem with theft or robbery. Theft is a significant part of operating in a poor country, so the issue must always be part of your evaluation. Also, it is not too late to get informers on the theft and have the perpetrators pay the reward monies if you obtain a conviction. Good luck.

My sister i sympathize with you, this is Africa, shallow minds would want to take advantage of you to kill your dream which would also benefit them massively. Please gear up and never kill this great company you are trying to build. Build with whatever materials that are left and make use of local material if possible to build a new or additional poultry shed to get your 250,000 birds running, then when turnover/profits begins to come from the farm, then you can reorder the lost items to complete the uncompleted or never built shed. Instead of 4 sheds if what you have in the store would perfectly build 3 foreign sheds go ahead and build, then build the 4th shed just like your old shed. I don't believe it was the guard that didn't get hurt as he was able to understand the language but your right, you can't put it past anyone. I believe that it would have been more likely an outside job as word got out from the 25 male helpers talking about the big construction, which is why the single mole was sent in first to make sure they can get to all the materials. Very basic security training would have prevented the mole from accessing the farm and gaining any information. Sorry for your lost items and please continue to stay strong.

(b), In the absence of Electricity, I saw the other day on RU-vid, that there do exist "Hidden Construction Camera's" that could last 30 to 90 days without charging, and could as well take constant video footages. It think it could be reliable and not cost much. (Saw $200) 2. Also, get additional/standard solar powered Streetlights with its poles at all corners. (I think a single solar powered Streetlight cost about Ghs 1,800 to Ghs 3,500; which is worth the investments at hand) It will help you today, tomorrow and even the future. I recently did some CCTV installation. It is worth it.

As a recent subscriber to your channel, sorry to hear what happened to you. I am reading a lot of the comments and no one seem to be offering any type of good advice. Going forward you need to install some type of CCTV surveillance system with real time notification. This can be tied in with height sensitive Motion sensing monitors. I know armed security might be more expensive but you need to have that type of security when you purchase expensive building or farm equipment/materials. Lastly good outdoor Flood lights on tamper proof light poles with wires protected by Metal conduit are a must, there are really bright LED flood lights that can be used all night the energy usage is very low, so no worries about your utility bills. Your farm needs to be well lit so criminals cannot be lurking around at nights. If you cannot get those lights in Ghana go online they are on Amazon some of them are even Solar Powered and comes on automatically at nights. Lastly do not be swayed by this, you are on the right path and will be extremely successful. Just be mindful and know there are resentful people out there.

I am so shocked to hear about the robbery, I am so sorry, may God bless you abundantly and make your business successful. I have been following your journey from the begging, I was very excited always looking forward to see the next informative video, since I am also taking the same path to invest in poultry and goats, i am in USA I am trying to get enough information as possible especially from my fellow friends who have been living in diaspora. I am so sorry, robbery is my worst fear going back home to invest, but I really want to go home to retire, but I will still have to invest home. Here is my take, in as much as I need to get much information from friends like you and many others here, I am thinking your good information videos are not being watched only by people who are inspired by your achievements and learn from your success to implement these idea in their own home countries, we can not rule out that, bad people with bad intentions can use the same information and updates you are giving us to steal because all your underlined plans are exposed to the public, I am thinking they robbers were following you also same as we do, they had all the information when the containers were to be off loaded and what was in the containers. You and your husband find a way how to do it, to avoid exposing the entire plans and specific dates when you are receiving and never reveal when your products will be ready for sale. I read a few months ago about another couple from Great Britain who experienced a incident very similar ( except no one was injured) they discovered the farm foreman who they placed in charge of their operation was the culprit for the theft of their product. I am a great admirer of your channel. We need more entrepreneurs like yourself but your farm is poorly sited from a security perspective. I wouldn't buy commercial farm land for livestock at (a) an isolated location (b) anywhere that I cannot drive to and from late in the middle of the night (c) a site so inaccessible that I have to create my own access roads etc. A 10-acre farmland in the middle of nowhere that is being used for long term tree crops or cash crops is great but this is not so cool for livestock due to the need for constant monitoring. I would have bought 3 or 4 acres within the nearest village and then expanded outwards. Guns on the farm is a bad idea in my opinion but I see why it is being done. Yes, it is a deterrent but it also increases the stakes. Do you really think any would-be robber would now come to your farm with less firepower than what your boys have? What happens if you have major fall outs with your team while on the farm? I made a similar mistake in siting my farm years ago and I have had to make some tough decisions.

A large truck moving thru the area that early in the morning and no one spotted it and could point which direction it was headed? Especially since it was duuring the morning call to prayers so people were up and about, they would've at least heard that vehicle passing. The vehicle is the key, someone in those villages knows about that vehicle. Lastly, these are large items to sell and would stick out for sure. I'm so glad the security guard didn't lose his life.

if army barracks are anywhere close, make friends with commanding officers and make sure people around your farm and villages know you have army friends. That solves a lot of issues because you know, police isnt feared like the army. robberies, both on sites and on roads are unluckily standard... In the Upper East where we are it got quite bad during the last 2 years. security got beefed up a lot. between Bolga and Navrongo are now like 7 checkpoints, police, army, immigration plus a police patrol team driving around. And thats hardly 20km stretch.....

Install hidden security camera in your farm and connect it to your phone if possible so you can see what is going on per minute. Be careful of your employees. Attack like this must be from an insider. This is why we have been saving up to erect a fence on our properties in Nigeria. In the future, work on erecting a fence and ensure you hire people that are trustworthy on your farm. We are returning home in few years time but before we do anything, we have to erect fences and proper security tools to ensure our safety. May God keep you and your family safe. You will recover from this sister. God bless you.

Hmm...for a long time I felt so depressed, angry and all other emotions in between...at the thought of these robbers not feeling any guilt all through the time of the robbery: from hurting a fellow human being to stealing someone's hard work.

Thank God nobody died and I pray you gain more than you lost going forward . You can never be sure when it comes to security . I had similar issue with one of my construction sites . Luckily, nobody was harmed and I suspected the care taker I asked to vacate the site a month before the rubbery due to continues negligence on site .

Sorry to hear, I suspect this is an insiders job and someone who knew your insider out.... ordinary armed robbers without any insider information will not spend 5 hours stealing pieces of metals. Obviously, they don't have any use for the items stolen except to sell them as scrap. Worth checking with major scrap buyers and dealers within the region. Advice, emboss your company details on all pieces of metals and properties and marked them not forsale as this will deter potential thieves and buyers.

My sister, my advice is, remain strong. Re-evaluate safety procedures, mitigating procedures, to allow for progressing forward. It's just a challenge. I think there is going to be a lot of theft, also with the farm animals, eggs and related products. God is your strength, but don't give up.

Really sorry for this unfortunate outcome. It’s really hard starting a new project . People wouldn’t understand how you can manage to acquire all these expensive materials in the midst of this current hardship and will take advantage of you with the least opportunity they get . I’m a victim and I’m still moving forward with my projects because it’s a dream and this challenges won’t stop me neither you . Together we will help Ghana in our own small ways

Is a pity that you went through all this. However, after listening to your episode, what immediately came to my mind was the main architect to the robbery were the containers drivers as they were fully aware of valuables they were delivering. The rest of the guys are innocent. Thanks, and wish you the best with your continuous business.

Sorry for your financial loss glory to god lives were spared. I once did a big concert in a small town in the usa a town i never lived in and got robbed. Afterwards I realized how big of a target I was not being apart of the fabric of that community. Observing your chicken farm I dont see a fence wall of any sort no CCTV cameras and a couple dogs may have helped deter the robbers. Learning from this when I move to ghana before any business I will make an effort to be at least a neighbor 1st before any business.

The security guard from the area was making calls time leading to the robbery! Question is to who were the calls made? those people/calls should have been investigated and people called interviewed..It is sad that some of our people never see beyond their circumstances and are so grappled with selfishness that they would steel components which they would never be able to put together as a complete unit but merely waste! I wish you all the best as you soldier on!

This is a wake up call for most of us in diaspora who thinking of entrepreneurship back home. The security should have let the guy in helmet to remove his helmet and give proper identification plus his contact. They should've call you immediately while he is still in the farm. Don't trust anyone. Sorry for the lose but things will be ok. Those are enemies of progress.

OMG! Sincerely sorry to hear about what happened. That is just awful. This looks like an inside job and you have to be extremely careful of those people you're hiring. to work on your farm. These people need to be vetted and don't take anyone's word about how they are good and reliable workers i hope by now you have CCTV installed at your farm? I pray nothing like this never happens again. All the best to you, Korewaa!
