I personally think you just take the rest of your recipes in hand and create another series! Just my thoughts though! 😂 I just love watching you, so I’m waiting patiently for the next one! Thanks for all your hard work! Hope to see ya soon!
I would love to see a series where you take one food (Chili, sloppy Joe, taco meat, salsa chicken, etc) and show many ways to use that one food! I often make big batches of these things and others and freeze the leftovers, using them later for other dishes. I’d love to see your take on this!
I'm part dutch, and we cut up and cook the kale and potatoes, then mash together with some milk and butter. Add smoked sausage on the side and gravy for the mash. So good 😋
I enjoyed watching your cooking for community videos. I didn't realize I would be batch cooking for my mom and step-dad. He was recently diagnosed with Parkinsons and dementia, and my mom doesn't cook. I couldn't stand to see him eating nothing but Tacobell and premade snacks. So, I started preparing meals for them the last couple of weeks. It's been a bit overwhelming, but remembering your Cooking for Community videos, helped me push through that. I plan on re-watching them for ideas. Thanks so much for doing your videos! They've been so helpful!❤
Soups are awesome! I'm always up for more soup content. Maybe trying soups from different parts of the world? I'm Czech and one of my favorite local soups is made with mushrooms (often dried porcini, but the recipes can differ), potatoes, cream, dill and served with a boiled/poached egg. It's called kulajda. I also love a good hearty borsch.
Kale! I love kale so much :) In my hometown, my local bakery has an amazing and easy kale salad I loved. And, it's really easy to make at home. Well-Bred Kale Salad 1 lb fresh kale, stems removed, finely chopped 4 Tbsp olive oil 1-2 cloves minced garlic 1 Tbsp lemon juice 1/2 Tbsp black pepper 1 cup dried cranberries 1 cup slivered almonds, toasted 1/2 cup parmesan cheese Salt, to taste 1. Wash kale thoroughly, remove stems; finely chop leaves 2. Mix olive oil, lemon juice, garlic and pepper together. 3. Pour mixture over kale and massage with hands. Let sit for 3-4 minutes 4. Toast slivered almonds 5. Add cranberries, cheese, and toasted almond slivers to kale and toss
Yesssssss. I LOVE THIS SOUP!!! I use turnips instead of potatoes to keep it low carb but it is incredibly delicious!!! I also add a bunch of red pepper flakes to mine because I like it a little spicy.
I used to make bread when my husband and I were first married. Our bathroom was small and the vent was beside the toilet so I sat my dough on the lid of the toilet and it rose beautifully! I still make bread but I let my mixer knead the dough!
I like kale sautéed with bacon and garlic as a side. It’s heartier than spinach and I like the texture better. I think I put it in a frittata once because I was out of spinach. I did cook it a little first. With bacon. 😆
I substitute Italian style turkey sausage in my zuppa and use 2%.. I cook the potatoes and take out half and mash them and return them to the pot.. it thickens the soup well
Heck yeah! Thank you for giving us a cheap, home-made alternative to the Olive Garden soups! Lots of ideas you've given us over these past few days, I truly appreciate it! Now, let's make that BREAD (and soups)! 🥣🍞
Souptober-ception enchiladas! Yummy! The Tuscan soup looks so delicious and the breadsticks turned out amazing. You should be proud. It has been great to see your culinary skills grow and refine. So sad Souptober is over but so excited for your next idea!
I think this was a perfect end to Souptober. Every soup looked so good and I love how you always try to throw in something extra for us. Love this channel.
I'm SO GLAD you picked zuppa toscana as your last soup, I ADORE it and I'm definitely making it next week! Also the entire rest of the soup lineup sounds amazing and I would love to see all of them, honestly. Soup is my favorite genre and you can't beat it for a budget option!
I so agree, Rebecca, I too would love to see all of those soups. In my opinion, fall and winter are soup seasons. I love soup and have a few that are on my list of choices for this week. 1. Chicken chowder with dumplings. 2. Broccoli and cauliflower cheese. 3. Chili or cheeseburger soup. 4. Chicken or beef and vegetable. 5. Potato ham chowder or baked potato.
I’m not a kale person but my friend loves making kale chips - basically chop, massage with oil, put on pan with salt and pepper and bake until crunchy.
@@lindabader3857 true, but i def recommend it for you! spinach is good & healthy but kale is better i think from when i remember doing research. tell him he'll need it for the winter lols idk the texture just fits so much better. oh and if he's picky and you want to try new things highly recommend just doing it for yourself! dont be afraid because he's afraid . i was semi picky, but love trying new things but even if i know i wont like it sometimes i'll try it then i'm surprised that i like it
Ground Italian sausage, steamed kale and a jar of Alfredo sauce come together to make a delicious sauce for pasta. Especially butter nut squash stuffed ravioli.
This soup is very versatile when it comes to substitutions. I’ve used heavy cream and evaporated milk. I recently used the Irish O’Garlic sausages instead of Italian and it was still good.
I have some chili and chicken enchilada soup in my freezer, and tortillas in my pantry, I know what I’m having for dinner tonight! I have loved this series. Great ideas, and you finished the series on my absolute favorite soup! Can’t wait to make the zuppa tuscana myself!
This was my late husband's favorite soup. I made it once for him and he said it was so close to the OG's :) Working with dough is my favorite. Kale is so nutritious. Baby kale is more tender if you want a salad. 🥰👻🎃🍃🍂🍁 Wonderful job on this !
I love the soup at Olive Garden. Now I can make it. I use the salad 🥗 dressing. I like the garlic bread 🍞. Thanks for all the recipes . I love soup when it is cold 🥶. God bless everyone 🙏 ❤️ ✝️ kale salad sounds good.
I vote for the ham potato soup. I've been making the olive garden soup as one of my specialties for thirty years. I use breakfast sausage, onion, garlic, broth, potatoes and CARROTS, and I add spinach to the bowls and ladle boiling soup over it because the leftovers keep better without the greens. Topped with tons of parmesan and/ or a slice of american cheese.
My middle school actually sold Taco Bell Chili Cheese Burritos at the snack window. They were in full on Taco Bell branded packaging. Like the kind individual freezer burritos are sold, but Taco Bell. They were my favorite and always sold out fast! I graduated in 2006, so this was a long time ago lol.
I love zuppa toscana...it's one of my favorites. We sometimes cut the carbs a little bit and use cauliflower instead of potatoes (it works well for those who want to stick closer to a keto-type of diet).
I watched Julia Child as first as I can remember. The galloping gourmet and have always loved being in the kitchen. Alton brown and the cajon what i'm gonna did Jean Pierre And now you👩🎤
Years and years ago, someone I knew used to make a pie with kale and cheese, I think it was Fetta Cheese. The recipe was either Greek or Greek-inspired. It was truly delicious. I don't know what sort of pastry though. I seem to remember that it may have been filo. Thank you for the video! You brought back some memories today!
You are almost up to 200K subscribers!! I'm going to share this series with everyone I know. I loved this soup series and all of the ideas for leftovers.
I make a frittata for breakfast occasionally. I use kale and any peppers, mushrooms or any other veggie I have left that needs to be used. Plus lots of cheese. My husband loves it.
i love zuppa toscana. i had never had it or heard of it until last year when someone asked me to make it for a coffee shop lunch that i worked at. it became a favorite for us now. i didn't have kale one time i made it and substituted fresh spinach and it was still yummy. love the leftover chili/enchilada soup idea!
This video also made me think about having a dinner potluck a la Olive Garden's soup, salad, and breadstick promo! Having people bring their favorite soups and serving them alongside a nice big garden salad and these breadsticks sounds like the perfect fall get-together.
I love kale just chopped and wilted/sauted, seasoned with salt, pepper and a touch of vinegar! Any green, really, is delicious like that as a side dish!
I am a big fan of kale! I've made kale chips by crisping it in the oven and sprinkling salt on top. It's great stirfryed as a side with some garlic or in eggs. Also love a good kale salad with apples and sweeter vinaigrette!
CB chicken & dumplings…my aunt just sent me an easy recipe. I haven’t tried it yet but she said it’s delicious. 2 c. Flour 1/2 t. Baking powder 1 pinch Salt 2 T. Butter 1 c. Milk (a bit less than a full cup) 2 quarts Chicken broth 3 c. Cooked chicken Mix first 5 ingredients in a bowl till forms a ball. (My aunt said she just uses Bisquick for this step.) Bring broth to boil, drop dumplings in one at a time, stirring while you add them. Cook for about 15-20m. Add the cooked chicken to the pot. Done. I hope sometime in the future you will make a video trying this version!
My favorite way to eat kale is so easy. I use leftover baked potatoes (or cold boiled potatoes) and make a sort of hash with it using bacon and kale. I dice up bacon and fry it in a pan. Then add my kale and saute. Careful! The kale will pop a bit in the bacon fat. Then add the potatoes. If there doesn't seem to be enough bacon fat in the pan, I'll add some butter here. I like to let a layer of the potato get crispy on the bottom. Season with Lawry's or Old Bay or just salt & pepper. This is great with a fried egg on top for a breakfast or as a side dish with roasted chicken or beef.
Food Lion had russet potatoes for $1.99 for 5 lbs last week and they were GIANT!!! The bag i got actually weighed 10 lbs.!! I thought it felt mighty heavy so i actually weighed it!!! I've never had the Olive Garden soup but it looks great!!!! Kale chips are great!!! I make them all the time. I use the smaller leaves, douse them with olive oil and garlic and onion powder and salt. Bake them in a single layer on a cookie sheet for about 20 minutes or until it's crispy like a chip. I also pull the leaves from the stems and i stir fry the stems, cut up very small, with shallots and garlic and some kind of seasoning!!!
My all time favorite salad and number one asked for dish to bring to a party or potluck is Kale Salad! Kale Salad Ingredients: 1 bunch kale Light flavored oil (avocado or light olive) Salt & Pepper 1 shallot minced Lemon Juice 1 cup Shredded long Parmesan Finely slice kale (leaves only no spines). Toss in large bowl with enough oil that all leaves look fully glossy. Add salt & pepper - enough to make the kale taste good on its own. Add in shallot (do this now so it sticks to the leaves and won’t all settle to bottom). Add lemon juice - enough to taste lemony but not too sour. Add in Parmesan.
I love the soup idea and also the use of the leftovers. The way you take them and make them something else. Of course, I enjoy watching whatever series you want to make. You’re very creative and Dollar Tree or no Dollar Tree, you still show what someone can do on a low budget. 😊
I use kale or spinach as an addition to many soups. I don’t always make soup with a recipe, but love the added flavour, colour and nutrition that kale provides and easy to add. I make a version of your soup today but without the cream. Not a cream soup fan and without is more budget friendly. Sausage provides such a flavour boost. Added beans can help stretch the servings and make it more budget friendly. I use some additional vegetables. I would love to see more soup ideas. I think they can have a great place in your various budget series either with soup as a starting point, or soup made from something you have leftover like chicken or ham. And yes I would love to see more vegetables where possible in those series. Kale is a great contender in that role.
Very fun series. Cracker Barrel has a kale slaw that is really good. I grew kale several times in my garden. It's so easy. I made a lot of kale chips. There are several recipes online. They are healthy, easy, and addictive. I would like to see what you would or could experiment with the vegetables you aren't familiar with. Thanks, Rebecca, for the videos and the knowledge you share.
I never used to like kale until I started freezing it and putting it on top of a pasta bake or tray bake it goes really crispy and tastes good! I only eat kale cooked this way
When I have leftover vegetables or herbs I dehydrate them. I make soup all winter long using dehydrated celery, carrots peppers and onions. One of my favorite soups is a jar of salsa, a pint of stock, a pound of smoked sausage cut into discs and some dehydrated jalapeño. I just put everything in a crockpot on low for 8-10 hours.
Here's what I've done with success with leftover chili: Boil up some pasta (like rotelli, bow ties, or elbow mac). Have on hand any extra chopped celery, shredded extra strong cheddar cheese, chopped red onion, bell peppers, and must have frozen corn. Once pasta is cooked add reheated chili, toss with about a handful of each celery, peppers, and onion and about 1 C corn and 1 C shredded cheese. Mix together to evenly distribute the ingredients. Can put in casserole and either bake or microwave to bring all to temp. Can call it "goulash" although this is not Hungarian in any way. Can add more cheese on top if baking in oven for a genuine casserole effect. If you don't want to add cheese, can add crushed corn tortilla chips or the cooked whole tortillas sold bagged in a stack. Especially good to add those chips if the chili is soupy. Serve hot and Enjoy!
I make this and sometimes substitute Tortellini or gnocchi for the potatoes. We serve it with Texas toast gaelic bread. The broth is the absolute best part of this soup!!!
Sad this series is over, I really enjoyed it plus the two-fer aspect where you created a new dish out of the leftovers. Hubby won't eat this soup, I'll have to make a batch and freeze it in my Souper cubes for individual servings. I know he'll love those breadsticks though, thank you!
#1 suggestion for kale, take out the rib, chop, and massage (scrunch with your fingers) and then add it to any pasta salad recipe. it adds a ton of vitamins and minerals. tastes delicious with anything vinaigrette based. the key to eating it raw is the massage, breaking down the cell walls mechanically like that really gets rid of the bitterness and makes it tasty
I love this soup.. it's definitely one that I make often... along with creamy chicken tortilla soup 😋 I also just made 15 bean soup last week... it was soooo good... i made it in the pressure cooker... which made it quick and easy
I'm definitely going to try to make the soup and the breadsticks. I will double the batch for the breadsticks because I will put half of them in the freezer.
For a good, cheap kale dish you can always do boerenkool stamppot! Mashed potatoes with kale, served with gravy and smoked sausage. It's delicious! You can serve it with other things besides gravy, but that's my favorite way
I love homemade bread so I bought a used bread machine for 5.00, and I love it. You can let it make your dough, take it out and bake it any way you can think, or you can let it bake it, you can do hb buns, hd buns, pizza crust etc.I then made peasant bread so easy and good, no kneading. to date the peasant bread is the easiest and best tasting. IMO 2c ap flour, 1cup warm water, 1tsp yeast, 1tsp salt, mix together and cover let rise, 3hrs, bake and eat. I just put mine in a iron skillet and it made a rd loaf so good.
