Shane, you two are living through my worst nightmare...I can't imagine the level of fortitude you have. My heart goes out to you! You are a wonderful example of how to make it through the "hard times" and I thank you for that. I would love to help also. Do you have a PO box? God bless you both :) BOP
Good luck with your garden!! If you can find Skin So Soft by Avon, rub that on your face and arms and that will help keep the bugs away. Please keep us updated on your house, we all care about you and Kim and pray things keep getting better everyday!
Lookin good Shane!!!! I don't know what my garden looks like this morning. We had 10.4 inches of rain Sunday night into Monday morning, and then from about midnight last night to 7 am another 9.5 inches and some hail and it's not done yet more waves coming in. That bein said, if I have to I will replant when it gets a little dryer if need be. Yes would love to see updates on the house build. We built our home ourselves. so I absolutely love that kind of stuff. Wishing you much success with your garden this season. Much love, continued prayers from Texas.
You're younger than I am. When rebuilding think of wheel chair access with all interior doors. Use 36" interior doors and room to turn a wheel chair. I put in a handicap a toilet in my small house but I am 6' 3". I also placed extra hidden 2x6 wood supports in the walls for future hand pulls and put them next to the toilet and shower walls. A wheel chair ram maybe a great idea too? A wheel chair ramp would add more value to your home than a fireplace. It is the baby boomers with money , they want to stay home and not be placed in a residential care facility. Old age is not compared to a house fire but It will happen to you. I really enjoy your outlook on life after a disaster. Thanks!
What do you think about adding a shut off (ball valve) to each upright for your garden irrigation? That way you can turn off several or all but one rain bird so you can get better water pressure so that you can water a portion at a time. That way you can water "zones" of your garden at a time. Best of luck.

Love your attitude, it is very inspiring, and happy to hear all is working out for you guys, long road but in the end might even be a blessing. Never had been in that situation, but a lot after hurricane Ian, like a lot of people we had 4 feet of river water in mom and dad house a total rebuild. And here at my house mostly just months of clean up all the mature fruit trees and even my muscadines wiped out ( which is nothing in comparison).videos like this offer hope,I do hate to see that you or anyone has to go thru but do really appreciate you sharing and all the positive energy…. Hope to someday get more self sufficient too. Take care and look fwd to progress...
I'm so very proud of your attitude in all the chaos. Seek God for comfort and guidance. He loves y'all and is waiting for you to come to Him for His peace that goes beyond our understanding. I love you all and look forward to seeing your garden! Best wishes for the sprinkler issues to get working correctly. You've been an inspiration to me! I love you all! ✌️💖🙏🙌🕊️🇺🇲🤜
Your loss of your house is devastating. However, look at it as an opportunity to design a place that has the features that really speak to you. Please keep us posted. We are pulling for you all.
My 80 year old mother paid her house off and completely remodeled the interior of her home after my father passed away. Then it burnt to the ground. It took a year but she got back in to her new home a few months ago. She was able to reuse her slab and septic too. They changed up a few things and made the house much more accessible for her. The fire was hard on her but she is thrilled with the more open floor plan. It’s will take some time but you and Kim will be back on your property soon. Prayers!
Good morning Shane, thank you for the updates. Yes, keep us updated. I'm glad to see you starting our gardens. Be safe and keep smiling. See you on the next one.
Hey Shane ,I got a little giggle from your Hoe Dance🤣! I use Off on the brim of my ball cap in the Spring👍. The Skin So Soft works well too,but has a strong odor. Im happy to see you focusing on your garden and keeping yourself occupied🎉. The place looks super after the crew cleaned all the remains up 😢. Well on ward and up ward. Love yah JO JO IN VT 💞
Shane so I am listening to every word. My advice for comfort for years to come is to ( and trust me on this ) double up on the insulation. The true comfort that will pay you back is having double thick insulation. I cannot express how critical a step this will be on the rebuild. You can cheap out on everything else. Do Not Overlook adding extra insulation. You'll retain heating or cooling faster and longer and cheaper. Our walls are 8 inches thick of open cell spray foam. 750 square ft. $2,500 This place is like a cooler. I had to do this because we run on strict solar power here in TN. Our 10k AC unit will turn this place into and ice box in 2 hours. My 9,000 BTU Lp heater does the same in winter. We lined our walls and ceiling with double sided reflective bubble wrap liner then sprayed over it. The walls are cool to the touch. If you skip this step you'll have the same problems of heating and cooling. My buddy David up in Boston has the thickest walls I've ever seen. 2 Feet of cellulose in his packed walls. One 5k BTU window unit cools his entire 1,200 square foot house. ( 2 floors ). The AC might come on for 10-15 minutes per hour in the summer. Runs off of solar. So if the suns up making heat He cools it for free like we do. Your garden space is massive! We're growing 12+ variations of melons ( cantaloupe and honeydews ) I'll put in watermelon soon and maybe corn. We are using a technique to grow watermelons like the pro champion competition Giant Pumpkins growers do. Just modified for watermelon instead. I think we'll be able to grow them in this clay much better than last year. So Pumpkins and butternut squash do well seeded and forgotten about. Our main goal is winter food security. Thus we are adding in Northern Georgia Candy Roaster squash as it stores and keeps very well and is sweet. You have inspired us to grow cucumbers. I'll be tearing apart the old Goat pen and reusing the 16 ft Cattle panels. This is a Book, Much love and Abundance "The WickerShire Project" Bill, Sharon and the kids. P.S. I'm thinking you maybe need a simple adjustable 40 to 80 psi RV style booster pump in-line to send water to the garden. This can be done cheap off Amazon Under $100
Lol, too funny. Love y'all too Shane, everything will work out. Thanks for the update on the garden, sounds like a bunch of good groceries y'all will be growing. Glad the birds are doing good too! Nice update on the house too I'm hoping that will go up as fast as the clean up, well you know what I mean. Will love to see updates on the build. Keep smiling, laughter is good for the soul.
I’d like to see the progress videos of the build Shane so I hope you show them. Best wishes with your garden and hope you have a blessed day my friend.
Glad things are going well. Definately keep us in the loop! On the sprinkler system - Split the sprinklers into zones. So run 2 or 4 heads per zone. It's your GPM that's too low. You can also adjust the head nozzles to cut back the need for that much water at once.
Hey Shane, something not related and sorry for your loss. If you were training your vines to the wire and on the eve of Japanese Beetle season, would you pretreat the runners with Sevin, or will Sevin slow their progress? Take care frim Huntsville...
I guess u can pretreatment the plants . I don't until I see the first 1. It shouldn't slow the growth. Also tip.. pinch the tip of every shoot except the 2 you want to run the wire
Love to see the rose bush is coming back. ❤ Kim and you got this, I believe things will be ok💙💙💙💙 stay safe and sending hugs and prayers....YES keep us posted!!!
Do you have black walnuts where you are? I'm having trouble finding a good source for them. I've thought about trying to make a black walnut wine... what's your opinion? BOP
