@@PinkPopcast Joe Wright also directed Keira Knightley in _Anna Karenina,_ in which Matthew Macfayden (I may have mentioned this on the other reaction but I'm not going to go look) plays her brother.
@@messer12really shouldn’t be four if there are any if they are representing Lizzie’s sisters two are married those being Jane and Lydia so the only sisters still at longbourne are Mary and kitty
Never even considered that Penelope is paralleling Marina with her secret, that kind of blew my mind ngl 😮 Y'all have great analyses for everything you watch, I really appreciate the effort that goes into it!
I see it a lot in the bridgerton group, but I think the only difference is Penelope did not expect to be in a relationship with Colin and did not feel the need to tell him. Now that she is in a relationship, she needs to figure out the best way to tell him. And Penelope realizes she needs to tell him because she never intentionally deceived him. It was not that big of a deal in the book so I hate they are overdramatizing it in the trailers. But we may get good moments and lines from it though.
I’m so glad y’all watched the Pride and Prejudice ending scene!!! It may be Polin season but Mr Darcy and Lizzie are the OG regency Soulmates. Wonder if they have been reading whistledown 😂
@@PinkPopcastI mean, Darcy wasn’t nobility, even though his mother was (I think his uncle is an Earl? His mother was the daughter of an earl, but during the novel it’s her brother. And of course, his aunt Lady Catherine married either a knight or a baron, I think?). And Elizabeth was the daughter of a gentleman but she says her father hates town, so they never went to spend seasons there, so she wouldn’t be interested in Whistledown, perhaps post-marriage when she went with Darcy to London?
“I have to be alone and cry because someone never said my name like that” Benji, I feel your pain. I never had that, waiting for that, and if I don’t, fine. But still want to experience love.
I read a comment online that made Penelope and Colin more interesting as a couple to me, it was about how Penelope is hyper-independent and not used to relying on people and Colin is very giving/generous and almost gets his self-worth from helping people like when he asks Penelope "what good am I to you?" when she says she can take care of herself so their relationship conflict is having to navigate that. It adds an interesting layer to their relationship for me.
Regarding happy endings, one of the reasons I like KDramas is because the couple gets together in the middle of the season and we see their relationship unfold for the second half. Typically, in American Film, the couple only gets together in the end and you need a sequel to see what happens afterward.
@@PinkPopcast YES THAT PART!! Now that I’ve started watching K Dramas, I have a really hard time watching western media. I bet @PinkPodcast would absolutely love Business Proposal ❤ (it’s on Netflix & ACTUALLY done well 😉)
It is important to note that the season wasn't written with the intention of being a two parter, that was a later decision! Consider how season 1 and 2 would've come across if they'd gotten the same treatment, the part 1 for those seasons would've had daphne and simon being together but with the whole underlying kids drama being completely unresolved AND anthony proposing to edwina right in front of kate and their families 😭
Therese something poetic about Rizzo’s last nerve is hanging by a thread while watching one of the most beautiful and romantic scenes in cinema. I fear I find it intensely relatable.
UK fan here 🫡 and could not agree more, WHY CUT THAT ENDING FROM P&P! a good kissy happy ending was missing 🥲 also grew up on American Disney channel tho 😂
As another UK fan, I'm the opposite ahaha it's so jarring and not very realistic of the time or the original story, it felt clear it was put in to make people happy and not for any artistic intent. BUT, I didn't grow up with Disney channel and I've always loved more arty films (not to mention I only found that ending on my 10th re-watch, so it felt like my beloved movie had been scandalously messed with hahaha) so I am happy to know that it did its job in making other people happy! 😊
I hadn’t even thought of that comparison to Marina and keeping a secret from Colin. So interesting!!! I’m so excited I’ve set an alarm for 3:00 am eastern time so I can watch the episodes the second they release 😂
Pride Prejudice and Zombies!! YES!! It's such a fun movie. And also, I'm pretty sure Benji mentioned vampires during Pride and Prejudice and in that moment I wanted you guys to watch it.. xD
It just cuts before this for the British ending. I have seen people in comments sections saying they hate this ending, but I prefer it ending with the actual couple instead of the father. I guess with all my Anglophilia, I'm still an American deep down.
@@HuntingViolets as someone who hates it, you're completely valid! I'm just thankful they made two versions, so we can all have our cake and eat it lol
I don’t know what I am most eager for: bingeing the whole part two or watching you react to it?… who am I kidding?!! Of course I’ll watch it first, but you are a close second. 🤗
I love this pride and prejudice ending it is one of the most romantic scenes I have ever seen in a film- you truly get to see then as a couple and the playfully bantering over what he is allowed to call her when is so sweet and romantic in a way that is difficult to explain in words, the filming of the scene is also gorgeous, light bouncing off the water and the close up on the kiss! Fairy Godmother " You have until the last stroke of midnight and then the spell will be broken and everything will go back to what it was before". The first trailer gives major cinderella vibes which works both for Penelope because she is a lot like cinderella- her sisters are horrible to her and her mother could be considered abusive to an extent/ narcissistic. It looks like it is potentially setting up bendict's story- which apparently is a nod/take on cinderella if Benedict is next. the trailers look amazing! I am both excited and nervous! Penelope may be keeping Whistledown a secret but she has never lied in her column- Whistledown and her other self is still her- 2 sides of the same coin- whistledown is her confident self and her other self is her less confident/introverted self. Whistledown creates a space for her to be confident, and have some amount of agency at a time when women essentially had none! Eloise is right that Penn needs to tell Collin but it is not her place to tell Collin- I'm wondering how much of her wanting Penn to come clean is really because she loves Both of them or it's just Eloise being petty and still resentful and jealous of Penn, and is taking out that jealousy out on Penn in a petty way. To say he can not possibly love you when he probably in a way knows Penn better than Eloise just in a different way- Penn in a way was never really herself around Eloise or at least only showed her more reserved self. we all have different sides to ourselves and different sides are shown to different people while we hide/ shield other parts of ourselves because we are not as comfortable showing that side with others, but when we do show that side to someone it's because we feel safe and comfortable to do so and/or they pull that side out of us when we are around them. Penn and Collin technically courted for years, they just courted in an untraditional way which works for who they are as people- courting was getting to know someone- they have been best friends essentially their entire lives- they already knew each other!
The amount of feral joy that escaped me in the form of me yelling "YEEEESSSS!!!" at your Pride and Prejudice and Zombies announcement was insane! 😂 I'm so happy! 🥰😁
the origin and lore behind this video.... I hope one day we can all laugh about it i wish i could bake a cake out of rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat it and be happy
It's hilarious that Penelope went on to published Lady Whisledowne, the SAME NIGHT. LIKE GIRL, YOU'RE GIVING YOURSELF AWAY. I wonder if Colin will notice that. It is a power move to the ton and her family tho......i just have to respect it. Like, "lmao losers, who's laughing now? I pulled the catch of the season, I'm not the laughing stock of the ton now..get wrecked". Kinda crazy that's how Benedict and presumably Anthony found out about their engagement tho.
I mean, they were making out furiously while riding across town in the very obvious Featherington carriage, with open windows, and the driver could hear them. They were making their new relationship status known to all who passed, loudly and proudly. So it’s not a long shot for people on the street to see them. From Colin’s perspective, a hypothetical “Lady Whistledown” could have been one of those people.
Omg, i love the shirt Benji! I've been looking for a Halle Ariel shirt. Your discussion about the Darcy x Lizzie kiss at the beginning was pretty spot-on, I think. There's def a formula on this side of the Atlantic about going about romantic happy endings. As an aroace person, it's always been kind of confusing to me how, in fandom spaces especially, people will be very very upset if their fav ship is canon by the end, but without a kiss. Cuz people always talk about how there's more to romance and chemistry than kissing, but it's almost like it's treated as a proto-marriage that officiates the romantic relationship or something. And, tbf, the thought is rooted in historically Christian weddings; ending with a kiss, was the OG handshake that 'seals the deal'. But idk, it's fascinating to see how much ritualistic value is still placed on mouths touching, even now, when such rigid ideas of what romantic relationships can and should be are being re-shaped. Just imagine if hand-holding was held to the same standard lol.
Omg! So happy to see a reaction from you guys I had a bad day. I didn’t realize that was the alternative ending because when I first saw the movie, it was because our tv used to get free channels from the neighbors and that was always the ending I saw. I always remember thinking how hot him calling her Mrs Darcy was.
I think Colin's question came from his own insecurity because he doesn't know his own place in Penelope's life. I think he wants to feel needed and Penelope doesn't need him in a way that he recognizes. I think his insecurity is blinding him to what he adds to Penelope's life so he's left wondering why she keeps him around. He's very insecure so just being like well she likes you, basically leads him to think yeah but what is there to like.
@@PinkPopcast but back then, "husband" had a set definition which basically amounted to financial & physical protection. Not even love or emotional support let alone help with kids. Pen got her bag with LW so financial protection isnt needed and well, I don't see Colin needing to physically protect his household. You're right, the answer is as her husband in our modern definition but if Pen in that scene is already saying she is strong mentally, then that last bastion of "protection" is out the window in his eyes. Like OP said, he is insecure and he has a hero complex so he's probably going to be lost for a bit.
after watching part 1, i knew the part 2 will be intense and fast paced and everything. and it did prove to be so much more than my expectation. i love how part 2 is more about growing to one's true self and building a life with ppl you love than blinding romance like previous seasons. it shows reality and how family life could be being married.
The American ending of P&P does feel a bit tacked-on, since it isn't in the book and comes after all the narrative arcs are completed. But it does satisfy the hopes of the viewers in wanting this pair to be happy. I especially love that it doesn't do a Disney ending with a wedding, since happy marriages still take work. Their dialogue is perfect in that it playfully describes the ups and downs of long partnerships, with the implication that they will remain committed to each other by developing a shared language around their feelings, and all during a moment of shared bliss. That's the ideal, and leaves me feeling just as blissed out. In stark contrast, Bridgerton season 3 part 2. Now that I've finished it, I can watch the trailers with you. I'm excited for your reactions to the rest of the season, but oh man, it has so many disappointing problems. I'm not a book purist and I want all kinds of love stories in the spotlight, but what the actual hell was this mess? :(
Also so I decided to look up the inflation on £5000 in 1810s that’s around £500,000 for the context going into part 2 (which I just watched and wow! Such a roller coaster but such a beautiful ending … for most)
Ive never watched bridgerton a day in my life, and now im happy to know ill never have to because im living for yalls reaction! I know what my new work time binge is 😋
I binged Part 2 earlier today and am now watching your reaction to P&P's American ending and S3's Part 2 trailers... can't wait for you start reacting to the 4 episodes!
Excuse me?! I've watched Pride & Prejudice a lot of times and I didn't know there was an alternate ending. So glad I found out...I mean, it's only been 84 years :D
I don't know if you've already seen them but The Paddington films would be so good to react to! They're so sweet and quintessentially English and I honestly cried through the second one and I bet it will get Rizzo 😅
I’m an American and Pride and Prejudice has been one of my favorite movies since it was released in 2005 and l had no idea that a version without this ending existed, I only remember this version.
I had the same thing with the ending. I actually first saw this in theater when it came out with my gran, mum and sisters and that ending was not there here in the Netherlands. I only saw that ending when I got the DVD, which totally made me squeal, it's so good! Also, love your hair, Benji!
you guys will absolutely love the pride and prejudice with zombies 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 a good movie to rewatch and the cast it's amazing 🧟🧟♂🧟♀ and really excited to see the reactions for both this and bridgerton 😍😍😍😍
Before I go into Bridgerton S3P2 myself, I wanted to share my theory about the "this author cannot tolerate a lie" line. Although it is written in Whistledown style, I was wondering if Eloise would actually take up the mantle and hint at the secret to put pressure on Penelope. Basically, a trial run before she would have Whistledown herself announce her identity. See you on the other side, boys.
And here i was saying that i was glad you watched the non-american version because the last scene is purely 'happy ending teen fantasy' whereas i felt the original was more poised and proper! *Sips a cup of tea pinky out* I guess I'm happy for everyone who wanted ya'll to see it haha
I was literally *just* watching your Pride & Prejudice video yesterday and reading your reactions to the alternate ending in the comments! I'm glad you two decided to make a video (almost) solely for that, because it really does feel like a more complete end to both the story, and the arc of Lizzie and Darcy's dynamic. The U.S. ending comes off *so* abrupt. 👏🌓
Pride and Prejudice & Bridgerton - two of my faves! I definitely think the main part 2 trailer is being deliberately misleading. It's making it look like Penelope won't even want to tell Colin about Whistledown but I think she will try to tell him. I'm guessing she will try a few times and keep getting interrupted but then he figures it out on his own. Also excited to see how they get things patched up between Eloise and Penelope. I think I have read from the showrunners and actors that they are the second love story of the season.
i gotta keep suggesting in hopes you two consider it, but Once upon a time. I would watch the hell out of those reactions. It’s so fun and honestly clever with how it mixes fairtytales. it’s almost like a fairy tale telenovela with how dramatic it gets BUT season 1-3 are amazing and 4-6 are decent as well.
Listen as cute as the Mr Bennet ending is (don't get me wrong, that ending is very sweet), it is physically impossible for me to watch the Mrs Darcy scene without smiling like a goddamn fool
Yes!! I’m so excited you guys are watching Pride+Prejudice+Zombies. It’s so underrated. It has some issues figuring out its tone, but I find it genuinely funny and Lily James and Sam Riley are the perfect Lizzie and Mr. Darcy. They would have been great in a regular adaptation, honestly.
I read the book a long time ago so I kind of remember what happened and it will be interesting to see how they play this. That's the last book I finished though, so after that I'm completely blind. Will be waiting to see if we get more of my favorite characters and pairings, like Kate and Anthony or the Queen.
It's so bizarre I never knew about the alternate ending; I just thought you just didn't show it when you edited your reaction. Glad you liked the ending though ♥
I mean I did not watch the american ending after like 3 years after watching Pride and Prejudice like three times, because how are you supposed to know, when you are watching movie it end and there is nothing else, it did not occur to me there could be another ending. But when I watched some videos on youtube and the ending scene popped at me and I was like what is that, Darcy and Elizabeth kissing? WHOA wait a minute, what? :D
Oh my gosh! I love "Pride + Prejudice + Zombies!" It is the exact combination of Regency nonsense and zombie nonsense that I wanted out of it. I really hope you guys like it.
Guys if you loved Pride & Prejudice so much, you should watch the four part BBC series with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy...it's sooooooo good, you'll love it 😉
Now that yall are watching mote jane austin, i suggest mr Malcolms list on prime video its got a similar vibe that i think yall would love 💞💞 also love this video 😊😊😊 (im watching tbis at 1:44am om June 13th so i was laughing when yall mentioned the date the video was coming out on 😂)
