A TRANSGENDER ‘power couple’ are conquering the fashion industry. Brooklyn-based Jari Jones and Corey Kempster were both born male but now identify as women. The couple met during college and quickly became best friends but it wasn’t until they started dating two years ago that they fully identified as female and began to socially transition. Since coming out they have featured on the cover of New York Times Magazine, modelled in campaigns for fashion brands like Chromat and walked down the runway at New York Fashion Week. After three years on Hormonal Replacement Therapy (HRT), Corey recently took the life-changing decision to have gender confirmation surgery in Thailand. Follow their story here:

Only if social benefits were a real thing in America. I at a time in my life really needed help and for me and my two kids it was $179 a month and I had to "volunteer" 40 hours a week ...why it's called work first program. So yeah. The volunteering is work like waiting tables. You know those companies get a tax credit for offering this. So I declined and figured it out

Cis doesn't mean straight. Cis means someone who is biologically the same gender as your brain. So a woman born into a female body, or a man born into a male body, etc. It doesn't have anything to do with someone's sexual orientation. Someone can be trans and straight. I really don't think they were trying to imply anything necessarily negative about cis people. I think it was more poking fun at the fact that people who are transgender have to work extra hard for their looks. A large number of whom even take to several gender reaffirming surgeries. It was meant as a lighthearted joke towards themselves, not something negative towards anyone else. It's a shame that in this day and age people can't say anything without someone taking offense. Regardless on what side of the coin you happen to land.

A regular store is divided into masculine and feminine sections though. In a fluid store all the clothes are muddled together and not gendered. I’ve worked in clothes stores and I’ve seen the struggle of trans women and fluid people not feeling comfortable to shop in the “women’s section” or the negative comments they get from others for trying on classically female clothes. They’re not being binary, the store is forcing them into a binary.

Let me say this. They are a beautiful couple but please stop saying y’all feel like women 🙄 there is no feeling like a woman, it’s just a human in a woman’s body, a body that is specifically designed for bearing children, whether we have them or not. It’s not a costume. The only time we feel like women is that time of the month. Trans women look at women like it’s just abt how we look. Being feminine or liking what society calls “girly” has nothing to do with being a woman. A trans experience is a unique experience but it’s not the same as a woman’s because no woman’s experience is the same and most of our womanly experiences are dictated because of what society says women are. I’m not denying dysphoria or even transness. I believe they deserve the same rights and respect as anyone else and their pronouns shld be respected but women need to be as well.

Sometimes the motivation to transition mentioned by some trans people seem so damn superficial. Womanhood is more than long hair, heels and dresses. Liking or gravitating to those artificial displays of womanhood is not a reason to transition.
