Just a quick extra comment!! Some people are mentioning sharing bedrooms in hostels! I've actually stayed in hostels before and sharing is fine, when you're prepared to share and have packed accordingly! I had literally so many personal/expensive/important belongings with me that I would never ever consider taking to stay at a hostel! Not only that, there was no lock on the toilet/shower door, in fact, there wasn't even a door between our bed and the shower which had a glass door 😂
You were so brave. I'd have had a massive meltdown at the prospect of sharing, no thank you! It's horrendous the travel company doing that to you tbh. Def make sure you claim your compensation and make complaints :P. Love your vids
Ok having watched this that is not okay by the airline if they messed up they have to accommodate you in an appropriate room not with random people; the very least would be to ask before assigning saying hey are you ok with sharing as many people wouldn't care if they weren't carrying gear etc. In a hostel situation you know what you signed up for and as you say pack and mentally prep accordingly.
I would be absolutely terrified at the thought of strangers sharing your room! And how bad that there was no flight for 3 days! What about Nicks work commitments? That’s an awful situation!
I presume you made it home ok. What a gorgeous resort. Sometimes when they say your room has a pool it's the size of a jacuzzi, but those pools were so big and beautiful. The food looked so delicious too. I'm sorry your flight was such a mess, but at least you weren't stuck sleeping on the floor at the airport. The layout of that second hotel room wasn't really suitable for sharing, so I understand your anxiety. Please try to say ok I'm ending the vlog here instead of cutting us off. It says "beneficial insects - Municipality of Heraklion 2023". They have some tree diseases and those insects help cure the trees. Don't ask me how! I don't know! LOL
They may just use a normal spongecake and poured a jello type of liquid on top and let it soak in real good in the refrigerator. That is what it looks like anyway. 😉
I'm so sorry you were delayed for so long! My flight home from Jamaica was canceled once, but it was only for one night....they put us up in a hotel with bedbugs 🙄 Glad you were able to make the most of it!
That sponge might be a potato flour based cake. Maybe with some freezedryed raspberrys in it. You use it all the time when making birthday cakes because it's more stable.

I admire your ability to stay positive and calm SO much. I have pretty bad anxiety and panic attacks and the thought of being stuck abroad terrifies me, so I am totally in awe of you!
But to be fair, where they were staying is literally a 4 hour flight away from London, so really pretty close. Now flying to Greece from the U.S. and I would be having a panic attack 😅
Please tell me you're finally home!! That sounds awful! I usually stay at hostels when I'm abroad but even then, I can't imagine going in to a situation where I wasn't prepared to share my space and have someone be like "someone may or may not be randomly walking in to your room in the middle of the night" 😳
I’m so sad you got delayed but so glad you got to see Heraklion. The cups on the trees say ‘beneficial insects - Heraklion 2023’ and I think it’s to prevent the council from bug painting the trees ‘and damaging the eco systems within them.
Listen... There seems to be some people saying you were being snobby. I know RU-vidrs can sometimes feel the negative comments worse than the positive. So I wanted to reassure you that you weren't being snobby. Being a snob means you have too much respect for high social standing and wealth. Meaning you don't like to associate with people who are "beneath" you, or activities associated with lower income lifestyles. Being upset about having your flight cancelled in a foreign country, then being sent to a hotel you have done no research on, only to find out that complete strangers can come into your room at any time with no warning and no introduction, is not being snobby. (Excuse the run on sentences) There was no way for you to know who was coming in, you hadn't packed accordingly, you didn't have anywhere secure to put your luggage if someone did show up. That would upset 90% of people would. Not to mention you're already in a high stress situation, tired, and feeling emotional. Your plans have gone completely out the window and you don't know what the next few days have in store much less the next few hours. Your feelings were perfectly valid. You had no time to mentally or physically prepare. And bring upset, stressed, or scared in that situation is totally normal and not snobby. Don't listen to those other people, they clearly don't know what the word snobby means.
EasyJet did the exact same thing to us! Make sure you put your compensation claim in, hopefully you kept receipts for everything you bought, taxis etc, put those in as well! They HAVE to compensate you for everything you spent. 🤗🤗

About the small cups hanging on the trees - It's the municipalities in Greece releasing beneficial insets, in order to control the population of biting insets and mites. They are helping to balance the environment in the food chain, as well as working as natural enimies of pests in the urban greenery. :)
This EXACT same thing happened to me: I'm getting puzzle pieces from the vid that you're in Crete. I was in Crete and Easyjet messed up our flights going home, but they didn't sort us out the hotels we had to pay from our own pocket. Also I swear we stayed at the same hotel as one of these, it was called Hotel Sofia. Our second attempt at a flight was cancelled too so we booked a diff one with Wizz air which departed from Chania so we went from Heraklion to Chania. It was so hot and stressful in the moment but looking back it wasn't too bad. Weird though that Easyjet seems to have issues with their Heraklion > London flights... P.S You can get compensation depending on the number of days you've been delayed! It's about £450 :)

I completely understand how you feel. I have been stuck in Venice cuz of a flight I was previously supposed to go on was cancelled. Ended up having to go to Verona, Verona to Cologne (Germany), and then Cologne to London Heathrow. Then from Heathrow to Gatwick cuz our car was in Gatwick. And then a 4 hour drive back home! All I can say in a short way is that it was a long 40 hours! Love your vlogs xx

OMG-you are the third person I’ve seen having videos about cancelled flights. I don’t understand why flights are cancelled unless weather is bad. Then, to say you have to share your hotel? Um, no. I completely agree that is very suspicious. I’d have pushed a wardrobe in front of the door.
I would have barricaded the door with furniture. Put a chair under the door knob. So nobody could freely walk in. Im shocked there wasnt a lock on the inside

I wouldn't feel comfortable if I had to share a room with strangers BUT at the same time if it did happen the chances are those people would be in the exact same predicament that you're in...flights cancelled and just wanting to get back home.
On July 7th I was supposed to leave my city for Toronto but I did not leave till 10 p.m. because of a huge storm and when I got to Toronto at 11 my next flight was at 6 a.m. and I had no choice but to wait at the airport. Also, my return to Toronto from Miami my flights were cancelled twice.

Jazzy! When you wore the full-brimmed wicker(?) hat and your hair was hidden behind your shoulders, it looked like you had short shoulder-length hair and it was soooo cute on you! Its a bit random having random people in the same room. I guess when your travelling you have a few people you know and just share the bedroom etc. But it is a bit random.
They probably used oli instead of butter or margarine for the sponge which is what they’ve done. I never used butter in my sponge. Only oil makes the sponge moist and fluffy.

The way the airline handled that was a joke! We had a cancelled flight with Aer Lingus and they literally bussed us to a hotel, got us food and bused us back the next day for a flight and checked us in. We didn't need to do anything!
The whole airline industry is a complete mess. I was stuck in Queens New York for four days with no luggage. How it made it home and I didn’t… no clue?
I totally understand your feelings throughout the last few days....completely justified, yes it`s different in a hostel but this wasn`t the case! I`m with you on the anxiety at not knowing what was going on, too, I can adjust when all my ducks are in a row but dealing with the unknown is difficult! ( I`m considerably older than you and have travelled within several countries) Don`t let anyone make you feel bad for your reactions.

I got stuck in malta for 3 days because of easyjet, flight cancelled an hour before we left for the airport and there was no accomodation available to book so we had to find ourselves a place to stay last minute and pay extra days, it was hard to enjoy the extra holiday time because we were prepared to go home
It happened to us in Spain. We were stuck there because the airport went on strike. We were told we would be there 5 extra days. I was there with my dad and daughter. My dad didn't have any spare medication so we had to find a pharmacy that would sell him what he needed. My daughter was panicking as she had an interview for university on the Friday. And I was supposed to be at work on the Monday. To be fair we were put up in a lovely hotel and we got all our meals. There were about 20 of us put in it. I managed to get my daughter home on the Wednesday and me and my dad got a flight on the Thursday. It's everyone's dream of been stranded in a holiday resort and it was our worst nightmare. My husband had stayed at home and all I could think about was he had made us a roast dinner to have when we got home. Hope you got home safely.
I’ve always been prepared in the past because I was able to travel with a decent amount of extra medication. But my current doctor are incredibly restrictive in their policies and it’s impossible to get any flexibility out of them. So if I ever get up courage to travel again it’s take my life in my hands time and hope I can get back before the pills run out….. not really what I want to be thinking about on holiday! Glad you found a pharmacy for your dad who were willing to help.
