In this video, I will be discussing the new info we just learned about shiny hunting in Pokemon Let's Go! Pikachu & Eevee and how we were wrong about the shiny hunting mechanic! I will also be thoroughly explaining how the shiny hunting mechanic works in this game along with testing it out myself! You know what the sad part of this is? I did what we're suppose to do and still had the worst luck.... I went over odds for so many hunts and my chat kept telling me "You know you don't have to catch anymore after 31, right?"

Dang that sucks! I definitely think doing this method works best for rarer Pokémon and for Pokémon on routes that don’t get as many spawns. If you’re hunting in like mt moon or Viridian Forest, simply route resetting would probably be more efficient using the 1/1024 shiny odds!

I know! I thought I had the worst luck possible going over 3,000 for clefairy thinking it was like 12x odds but it was really only 3x the odds! This completely changes how I’m gonna look at shiny hunting in this game!

@@immortaliron2475 that’s already been confirmed! Many people hunt for shadow shinies in colosseum and prove they stay shiny when purified! Idk how that rumor started up actually. You can watch many shiny hunters do this on RU-vid!

lol nice! The only one I kept catching for (excluding the mankey in this video) was my first bulbasaur and I got it in like 70 encounters! I then decided to not do that anymore and to just run from bulbasaur and got the next one in like 1300 😅

This is huge for me. I’ve been working on a let’s go shiny living dex as well, going in order by dex, and currently my next one to hunt is hitmonchan. I’ve done so many hunts without this proper method. But this does explain how I managed to get two shiny doduo without even reaching a 31 combo

I knew it! Idling always took me hours if not days to get a shiny spawn and it would be random spawning pokemon most times. Whenever I wasted like a hundred or so pokeballs my shiny would always appear.

Do we know the numbers on the increasing encounter rate for species? You brought up Pikachu in Viridian Forest changing from 5%, but it'll make the balance very different, and that DOES depend on catch combo right?

It does depend on the catch combo! 11, 21, and 31 catch combos all increase the spawn rate of the Pokémon you are comboing for! However we do not know the numbers as of now. I think it’s similar to that of the knockout method in Sword & Shield where KOing an overworld Pokémon allows for a 50% chance the same species will spawn again. This would explain why rarer Pokémon like pikachu spawn a ton and more common Pokémon like meowth don’t seem to increase that much. This is all speculation though!

So if I catch the species shiny can I keep the catch combo going to have the max odds for another shiny or does it reset after catching the shiny?

It does not reset after catching the shiny as it is the same Pokémon you’ve been catching for the combo! It’ll reset if you catch a shiny that wasn’t the Pokémon you were comboing for!

Hey, great movie! I have a question, since we have a chance of 1:1024 if we don't continue catching Pokemon with a 31+ combo, isn't it worth making a combo the "old way"? I'm a fan of afking, so to get 1:1024 (still a lot) just run lure+shiny charm and wait?

Yeah! In this video i said the catch combo is a pretty situational method. A lot of the time you would probably want to just use the 1/1024 odds!

So say if you had a catch combo of 31+ of Mankey and you didn't catch the first Mankey that spawned but you caught one of the 1024 Mankeys after you catch it would the next one you spawn have the better odds because you didn't break the combo? Plus would encountering a 31+ combo Pokemon and running away from it reset the spawn encounter also or would it just spawn a 1024 odds?

That’s correct if you catch a 1/1024 mankey the next one will be a 1/273 chance. This is because it continues the combo. Simply adding to your combo will make the next spawn a 1/273 chance even if the mankey you catch isn’t the boosted odds. Running away from a Pokémon doe not break your combo so running away from a mankey will just put the next spawn at the 1/1024 odds but if you then catch another mankey the next spawn will go back to the 1/273 odds

Okay so if I’m hunting a shiny pidgey and I have 31+ combo, I see the first spawn which has the better shiny odds, and I see the second spawn which has the 1028 odds, is there anything wrong with catching the second one? The next pidgey after that would also be the better odds right? So basically keep catching every pidgey until a shiny pops up?

It won’t hurt to catch every pidgey but if two of them spawn before you can catch one, there really isn’t a point of catching both as after catching the first one, the next spawn will have the boosted shiny odds. Catching both will still only increase the next spawns shiny odds only

I use joycons. I used to get joycon drift in my old joycons but I got two new pairs. Also due to Nintendo losing a lawsuit with joycon drift you can send them your joycons and they will fix them for free

Confused about one thing: can I catch combo Venonat for a shiny Squirtle, or does this mean my odds are better if the catch combo is a Squirtle as well?

For rare spawns like squirtle, if you catch combo ANYTHING to at least 11, it’ll increase the squirtle’s spawn from about a 1% to a 50% but it will only spawn one at a time. Only a catch combo of specifically squirtle will increase the shiny rate of squirtle though

Makes me question what’s more time consuming: catch combo or 1/1024 odds checking…. I’m trying the catch combo method on Snorlax right now. Not sure how I feel about catching potentially 500 Snorlax. Compared to refreshing Spawns after a 11+ combo(when rare spawns come out 50% of the time)

Yeah it’s definitely a situational method. I think for the rare spawns like snorlax it might be the better option because of the fact that you only can get one spawn at a time. Also once you catch 100 snorlax the catch rate should be insanely high so it shouldn’t be hard to catch them anymore!

Lures are pretty easy to come by but it does depend on what Pokémon you’re comboing for. If you’re comboing for a more rare Pokémon it would be wise to use a lure right away as lures increase the amount of Pokémon that can spawn in an are giving you a higher chance at finding the Pokémon you want to combo. On top of this, lures give you an extra shiny roll when they’re applied so you’ll have a higher shiny chance all the time!

Doesn’t matter what mankey you catch. As soon as you catch one, the next one will get the boosted shiny rate. You lose your boosted shiny odds if you stop catching them or your catch combo breaks. If you want to keep them full odds, you can still get to a 31 combo to get the max spawn rate, you just want to stop catching them after you hit that. And you also wouldn’t want to have shiny charm or use a lure as those increase the shiny rate as well

You need to catch the Pokémon to keep the shiny rate higher. Resetting your chain would complete set your odds back to Full and to increase them again you’d need to get another 31 combo at least so you’d be wasting even more pokeballs lol. When you continue catching Pokémon to keep the higher odds you an at least sell the candy you get and make profit to get more pokeballs so it wouldn’t be a waste anyway

I got my Shiny Male Nidoran while watching this video. Had a 62 catch combo and was idling near Victory Road in the case the shiny rate also applied to Nidorino and Nidoking (the latter is actually one of my favorite shiny). Now I gotta apply that knowledge elsewhere. Thanks for the info !

That’s pretty lucky congrats! The combo odds only apply to what’s your comboing and only if you keep catching them! So the highest odds you had for those were 1/1024 if you weren’t continuing to catch them!

I usually just catch shinies in whatever ball I want. But in let’s go specifically, if you get 100 of a certain species caught in your Dex, the catch rate becomes extremely high, making regular pokeballs extremely effective as well

You have to continue catching Pokémon to increase your combo! Or else they’ll all be full odds! If you catch a Pokémon to increase your combo, only the next spawn of that species will have the boosted shiny odds so you have to keep catching!

Your combo only resets if a Pokémon you’re trying to catch runs from you, your catch a different Pokémon from the one you’re comboing, or you close the game out. You can run around the entire map and your combo will still be intact!

Yep! You can lock your switch to keep your combo! The only things that break you combo are if a Pokémon runs from you, you catch a different Pokémon from what’s you’re comboing, or you close your game out!

No only the first one that spawns in will be boosted. After that, none of the caterpie will be boosted until you catch another, then the next one that spawns in will be the only one that’s boosted again and you just repeat!

If u are already on catch combo and catch a 1/1000 chanche non shiny, will the one that spawns after that imediately have 1/300 or do I have to catch another 31 ?

If you catch a non boosted shiny during your catch combo, assuming it’s the same species you’re already comboing, the next spawn will have the 1/300 chance like normal. If the 1/1000 shiny you find is not the same species as the one you’re comboing, catching it will break your combo and you’ll have to restart

You technically don’t need to catch EVERY nidoran you see. You just need to catch one to get the next spawn to be boosted odds. Then after one more spawns catch one more and continue. If multiple spawn at once you only need to catch one of them as catching all will just take longer and not make a difference.

You will need to keep catching the Pokémon you’re comboing. The boosted rate only affects the next spawn of the Pokémon you’re comboing. After that one spawn appears, you’ll be back to normal odds until you add one more to your catch combo

Wow its crazy because on my 3rd day playing this game i was leveling up my Pokémon in the diglett cave just catching a lot of them and boosting the combo. I wasn’t even thinking of shinies and i got like 2 of them lol. But I’ve been loooking for a game that i can just go on a long mission to kill time. So what happen if I have a 31+ catch combo and the next spawn I let it disappear or i encountered it but then escaped?? My shiny odd broke or i will get back to 1/273 once i catch one again?

If you let the next spawn disappear then the shiny odds will go back to the unboosted rate. However if you simply catch the next one that spawns in, the one after will go back to the 1/273 shiny rate!

Because not everyone cares about competitive, it’s fun to guess a random nature, even if I cared about competitive I’m certainly not doing it in Let’s go and I can always change its nature in a later Pokémon game anyway…

Im late to the game and just started getting into shiny hunting. After 15 hours of gameplay and a catch combo of nearly 200 (it got reset once, I almost jumped) I finally got a shiny Charmander! I think om lucky that I have a coworker who was able to give me good advice, like this 😁

I have a question, so lets say i have no pokeballs at a chain of 60, I go back to a shop to get more. Will I get the best chanche at a chain of 91 so another 31 chain or will it keep going after a reset?

The chain will only break if you catch a different species of Pokémon, close your game out, or if a Pokémon you’re trying to catch runs away from you. You can do anything else in the game and keep your chain including fighting the elite 4 again!

So if ive got this right in my head, say im catching vulpix. im at a chain of 31, so every vulpix i catch after 31, as long as i continue catching them, has a 1/342 chance? am i reading this right? without lure and shiny charm of course.

More or less that is correct! The shiny chance is only applied to the next spawn of the species you’re comboing so if two spawn at once only one will be a higher shiny chance. Then after you catch another one, the next spawn will be boosted again!

I got a Shiny Shellder after my 1st encounter when my chain of 34 was broken. The last Shellder in the catch combo ran away after 1 hour and I wanted to give up.

Does this change this hunting method's placement in your tier list? It seems a lot more 'valid' compared to similar methods, though it's obviously still much easier than full-odds gen 3 hunting.

I’d still say too easy as in reality hitting odds for it only takes a couple hours. But in general getting shinies in Let’s go I would also say too easy just because of how many Pokémon can spawn at once!

Is the combo even worth it? If a max lure and charm is 1/1024 and going through trouble of catching only brings in down to 1/250 ish why bother if your losing time? Just fly up and down the route.

It really depends on the Pokémon you go for. Lots of Pokémon are not worth comboing for but for Pokémon that are more rare, it’s definitely the way to go. Plus you have a much less chance of phasing if you do the combo method

So im trying this out now with a simple rattata. I am on 120 now and nothing yet. But often there are like 4 rattata on screen and i have to pay attention what is the next spawn. With mons like rattata or pidgey that spawn very often would you suggest to do it the old way or this way. And would this New found method of keep on catching then be better for mons like squirtle and bulbasaur instead of encounter and run away?

You don’t have to specifically catch the next rattata that spawns in to keep your boosted rate. But the next one that spawns in will be the only one with the boosted rate. You can just catch any of them. Also for a common Pokémon like rattata you might be better off just going in and out of routes to get a lot more spawns

@@stefanbrouwer459 the Pokémon do refresh when you exit and re enter a route. It’s a very good way to hunt for shinies. Usually referred to as “route resetting.” The shiny rate will remain the unboosted rate for every Pokémon if you do this though. The trade off is that you encounter more Pokémon in a shorter period of time. You won’t keep your boosted shiny rate for rattata unless you keep catching them as stated in the video. But regardless, it is recommended that you keep your 31+ combo of rattata as that will cause it to spawn more than usual.

This completely changes the way I view shiny hunting in this game! I used to think my odds were always 1/273 and I would get frustrated after seeing well over a thousand Pokémon and then getting a random shiny I wasn’t going for! Turns out it made total sense lol

If you stop catching the Pokémon you’re going for, every spawn after won’t have the combo odds. This mankey that I got did have the combo odds 1/273. For me even if I stopped catching the mankey, they wouldn’t be full odds because I have shiny charm and a lure down. Full odds is 1/4096 but with the shiny charm and a lure, I have a 1/1024 chance while not comboing for mankey

Damn, I was really lucky..... I hunted down a snorlax and did no where near 1000 and phased like 5 times at a static 31 combo. Another edit: this means we only need to combo to 11 for our targets. Comboing to 11 will make the target spawn more.

This definitely helps a lot since I still don't have the Shiny Charm, I only need the trade-evolution Pokemon: Alakazam, Gengar, Golem & Machamp. I got all of them already in Sword, Shield, BDSP & Legends Arceus but can't convert them over to Pokemon Home to put in either Let's Go games which sucks.

Nice! I’d recommend getting the trade evolution Pokémon in Pokémon GO! You don’t need to trade them to evolve them and you can send them straight from GO to Let’s Go!
