I'm sorry, I don't speak English well. Therefore, I will write in my native language - Russian (translate it). Давно искал видео, в котором был бы собран таймлапс всех погодных модификаций для Skyrim и вот я его нашёл, благодаря тебе. Спасибо, теперь я понял, что самый лучший погодный мод для Skyrim - это Mythical Ages.

I say this seriously, I had cancer for five years and so was home - on my pc - *often*. You are actually one of the coolest guys on the internet man. Seriously. You take your job seriously, this mashup is un-Godly and the transitions used, ideas for holding peoples attention, voice not being condescending, all of it. You're in your prime right now. And I've been watching and following since MaterSmash and the like, all the way back to the original days of the (actual cancer) that was skyrim modding before SSE. Thank you for actual great content. Compartmentalized and so so professional. Cheers mate :-)

Wood for sale! Getta you fresh wood here! : ) Best Weather Mod comparison going! My top picks are Natural Atmospheric Tamriel, Rustic Weathers, and Obsidian Weathers. Cathedral would have been up there, too, if it didn't turn everything so blue most of the time. I thought Rustic had the best skies and clouds, hands down. Mythic had a colorful, "fantasy" look, with good sunrises and sunsets. I will have to give Rustic a try sometime. Thanks so much, Michael! Top notch, as always!

Cathedral absolutely blew me away while watching this video. The only criticism I have is that I wish clear days were just a TAD bit brighter. The clear days on NAT are bright, sunny and make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. If I could splice the clear days from NAT into Cathedral, that would be my ideal weather mod combination. Absolutely wonderful video, you are a legend Michael.

Honestly, NAT is one of my favorites. I see so many people hyping up cathedral in the comments, but I just don’t see it. It just kind of looks off, too much contrast and bloom and the fog is mismatched with the sky. NAT has some messed up effect lighting, but overall it just feels natural. Obsidian is also pretty solid.

For how much I love the time lapse way to do the video, i don't think it will work perfectly considering that some weather mods use the season feature, this means some weathers will not appear depending on seasons, this is the most complete weather mods comparison i've found with all weather mods ( and really ALL ) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BznwjUivveo.html

I think that video was a good effort but it doesnt let me experience the mods much differently than pictures would. I make my videos for me as a person building my own load order :) my video allows me enough time with each mod to make notes and decisions. I don't need to see every weather... I do need to feel the world as time passes. Seeing 500 sunrises of climates of tamriel or different foggy days of obsidian doesnt help me if I cant experience the transitions. After a few days of footage you pick up the gist of the variations. You pick up the color palette, darkness, visual style.... I watched all 20 minutes of the other one and i can appreciate the effort but it doesnt help me make decisions. I can add mods for fog or clouds and storms. I can tweak weathers in xEdit... before I do any of that I need to have the basic feeling/look of the world as time passes day to day. How cohesive are the colors from up close to distant mountains. How jarring are the changes from weather to weather. That's what my video here is for... and the series as a whole will allow me (personally) to note the things I need to make my final choice.... which I'll share and explain my preferences.

One thing about skyrim weather mods that has long bothered me. Snow. You can tell few of the creators have ever actually lived in the far north. That is why, every snowfall, is blinding blizzard with thick sheets of blinding, massive snowflakes, swirling around in directions that often defy physics, or logic. While skyrimish like snowfalls can occur, IRL its not common. Snow, for the most part, behaves just like rain, but you wouldn't know it from weather mods. The only locations SR blizzards make sense, is at the highest mountain latitudes.

Are you nitpicking a 9 year old weather effect? 😥 If anything at all, we should reserve our judgements for Elder Scroll 6. Current Gen games have cutting edge details, like Rdr 2. I'd like to see Bethesda giving out an elder Scrolls game that can compete with that.

I mean, I just don't see how any of them beat vanilla. CoT is basically vanilla, all the others are significantly worse. They all suffer from: 1. Crushed blacks (dark shapes that have detail in vanilla, mostly during the night, get crushed into solid black shapes. Just look closely at the Dawnstar lighthouse, you'll see what I mean) 2. Lackluster night visibility (which has to be counteracted with light - and that exposes a WHOLE HOST of problems with mesh lighting in this game. For example grass doesn't get lit at all but the ground underneath it does, if you install a dark night weather mod and go explore with candlelight/torch/whatever you'll see pitch black shapes of grass on completely lit ground. There are also numerous other problems with lighting that dark nights expose.) 3. Also exposes game engine's broken rendering through fog. If an item is too distant for example it will, once again, crush into a solid shape without detail - or if it is transparent is may render through fog completely unaffected by it. Vanilla weathers are clearly tuned to avoid extreme fogs.) 4. Also most of them use some kind of cheapo fog style that abruptly APPEARS in a straight line (not circular radius) at some distance in front of you and moves with your camera when you rotate it. The transition lines are usually very evident screaming at you through the 4th wall. 22:14 or 35:51 for example, also illustrates point #3. Overall I think Bethesda devs knew EXACTLY how broken their engine is and made solid workarounds. Bright nights and fogs not being too thick both have a reason.

I'll also add that a puny ~150kb SKSE plugin "EVLaS", which by the way causes zero conflicts and requires zero usage of xEdit, has way bigger impact on visuals than ANY of these weather mods. A tiny SKSE plugin with no fancy textures, no high-poly meshes, just smarts and skill. Improvement significantly exceeds any of these mods while having zero drawbacks. I know EVLaS can be used with a weather mod but the point still stands.

For me the winners are #1 Cathedral Weather: - Good: good auroras, heavy rain, AMAZING clouds (best of any mod by far) - Bad: fog is average - could be stronger, snow is definitely not heavy enough #2 Obsidian Weathers - Good: good auroras, heavy rain, heavy snow, really heavy fog - Bad: nothing, just wish the clouds were as nice as Cathedral I

Watching this closely, i realized that Cathedral Weathers has the same technical flaw as Dolomite Weathers - the authors failed to match mountains and horizon in many situations - it's very immersion breaking, because it looks fake. I'm a bit sad, because for almost a year i've been planning my first VR playthrough with Cathedral for the first time. Modding list is almost ready, after almost a month of researching, organizing, modding, testing. Now i realize that i will have to change out the weather mod... Ah, here we go again - dependencies, patching, sleepless nights... []-) [EDIT] I think i'm gonna try to fix it in ENB first, before i give up on Cathedral. The blue daylight tint as well.
@gamerpoets
@gamerpoets 3 года назад
My inter turmoil stems from the blue and purple tint. Obsidian is likely my choice. Some other weathers have more "beautiful" moments but Obsidian is the most cohesive/polished weather for the purpose of actually playing and not just modding.... add the sky mesh fix from jawz... and some other nice minor weather additions. Ill get to my videos on this again soon enough

Im having a hard time choosing weather mods, mostly between NAT and cathedral, I usually go with cathedral tho because of the seasons and the horizon line actually looking good after tweaking enb for it. Edit: Damn after watching this though i'm not super impressed with cathedral, I think people saying obsidian looks better might be right. Now it'll be really hard to choose, I need that horizon seam fix I wish they all had it. One thing I've noticed that vanilla of all things seems to do better than any mod is how the buildings in whiterun have a slight haze to them looking at a distance, like other large distant objects do irl. Almost all these mods seem to get rid of that and make it look super crisp and clear which I don't really like. Thanks for this video btw it helps picky indecisive people like me a ton lol Now I think the top contenders for me are obsidian, NAT, climates if tamriel, and vanilla, or cathedral for that horizon fix even though I'm not a fan of the overall atmospheric color pallet compared to the others.
