Hi everyone. While we were safe during the devastating Hurricane Helene impacts, many of our family and friends in the path were not. We provided a few resources in the description below our video on RU-vid if you are able to donate to recovery efforts. Take care, T&R
Im glad you guys and wally made it thru the storm! You know now the other states weren't so fortunate. The devastation is shocking. We are indeed so lucky to have the creature comforts of home. Take care guys.
At some point it just comes down to luck. So glad yours was good. Sometimes we win and are grateful for that, while we remember to support those that didn't.
When Todd said 'glistening and sweaty...' that reminded me of MadTV's Men on Football/Films skits... 😀 Happy that y'all made it through the hurricane safely!
❤ Todd and Rob.....glad y'all survived. Thanks for the video. Surviving Katrina in 05, l can relate to those feelings. On a lighter note, l visited Biltmore Estate in the past and it is beautiful. Please stay safe , your friend from coastal Mississippi 👋
Hi guys from Brisbane Australia. Glad both of you and puppy are safe and your house is still standing. Main thing you have each other. My thoughts are with u ❤
I'm glad guys, that you're all safe and that your house survived this hurricane. In the southwest part of my country, as well in many other European countries, there have been rainy floods and storms in recent weeks, resulting in many people losing their houses and some their lives. And we also organized a fundraiser for the victims. Already glad that you are making preparations for the various holidays awaiting us in the near future. Big hugs T & R & W!
Hate to hear the weather there has been tough for so many too. It seems Mother Nature has been busy. Hope that everyone is safe and sound. Makes us smile to know you helped organize a fundraiser for them! 🥹
Glad to see you all are ok and making the best of the situation. Those potatoes on the griddle looked so yummy. Can’t wait to see the house get painted and the Halloween decorations go up. It’s going to look so good! 😍
Indeed, we are feeling fortunate. Definitely terrifying to go through, but can't imagine what it must have been for folks just over the ridge into NC & SC, as well as on the coast too. So many impacted.
Glad you all are safe and made it through OK! I'm in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mtns. and we had a whopping 14" of rain! A bit of flooding but my local creek stayed within it's banks. Glad that is over and let's all hope for a dry spell to dry out. One thing about living in these rural mountain areas.... we're ALWAYS the very last to get power restored!
Well done guys that you had provisions in the house we have a couple of go bags at the ready. So pleased though you sustained no bad damage. At the moment we are waiting on heavy rain with possible snow so we are been told oh joys. Take care guys. ❤
Thanks, we definitely fared better than expected. That's crazy to hear about the possibility of snow where you are, but I guess that's just how the seasons can change in a flash.
You guys were so fortunate! I Have been very satisfied with my Honda 2000i generator, ($1200.),. It's 20 years old and has been through four hurricanes. It powers all of the 120 v. circuits in my 1400 sq. ft. house. It sips gasoline, is very quiet and produces pure sine wave power. Best wishes.
We lost power for 8 days during the last hurricane/cyclone, so had the house wired for a generator . A 7000w petrol generator (which runs the entire house almost as normal) plus wiring, cost us here about $2500- 3000 USD. The Jackery solar battery pack is also a good alternative especially to keep the smaller stuff up and running. Having power in the house is such a major deal so we sure get the "happy vibes".
Merci d'avoir regardé. Et oui, on se sent chanceux qu'il n'y ait pas eu plus de dégâts ici. Ça nous brise le cœur de voir les dégâts à l'est de chez nous. 💔
Really happy that you are safe. I really did think about you guys, hoping you were safe on top of the mountain. You mentioned Asheville. It has been in the news and has been wiped out by heavy floods. Washed away homes and other buildings. Total wipe out. Ashville will take months and months to clean up before any rebuilding can happen. The devastation from FL to VA is mind- blowing. North Carolina took the biggest hit that I can tell. looks like most of the state is completely gone.
That must have been quite a storm. I feel for you but glad you are both OK. Very impressed about how well you work together. I hope things get back to normal soon. We are supposed to get some wild weather over the next few days here near Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. Fingers crossed.
Hi guys great video,I'm so pleased you all are ok and not too much damage at your place.Being without power for 5 days had to a challenge 😉 You boys take care and once again grateful for your safety but I'm sad for others who lost so much😢love to you.❤❤❤
So happy you guys did well thru the storm. My daughter lives in Hendersonville NC & this is day 8 with no power but they came out really lucky being in a neighborhood that did not flood. (they are about 20 miles from Asheville.) Hugs from middle GA❤
So glad to hear they are ok. We have been in touch with friends that also live in Hendersonville that are also safe. So devastating to hear what everyone went through in the area. 💜
@toddandrob there were a lot of power outages, from tree damage, but mine only flickered. I just sat here, and watched one of my Western Red Cedars, bend with the wind!
Glad you're safe...& far enough uphill to escape the floods...being in a hurricane sounds so scary...get a Jackery...those things are amazing! Solar powered...no need to run out for gas (or whatever) in the middle of a storm.
Glad you both are safe and did not have a lot of damage. I was concerned about the winds, also. We only had 1 tree fall across the road so feel really lucky. I surprised you don’t have a house generator, we do so it provided power for the 30 hours we did not have electricity. It looked windier at your place than ours - we definitely are lucky.
glad you guys made it through ok. we are in blairsville and got nothing but 3 days of much needed rain. in the 80's i lived in roanoke va. and we had a flood there. it rained steady for 3 days and on the 4th the roadways turned into raging torrents and the water in many low areas rose to 30 feet. the end of my road had a driving range and the clubhouse had a steeple with only the very tip showing above the water. when the water receded there were mangled mobile homes and dead cows left tangled in the branches of the remaining trees. the destruction and devastation was unbelievable. i certainly feel for everyone that had to endure this and the coming trials. i really enjoy watching you guys on your adventure. we started our mountain adventure in 2011 coming from south florida.
Hi Todd and Rob!👋👋..gladly that all of you and your house and car are great not damaged, oh see awful messy in woods and funny of like spooks in night when no power, gladly the power are back, clean up and beautiful! Funny of Todd!! Lol. We heard that Milton hurricane is way to Florida again! Happy Sunday!☺️🐕🍂🍁🌲🤟❤️🐞
Glad that U 2 survived that hurricane. Your caution, Rob and Todd, about the large windows is smart. Here is a suggestion for your consideration. Attach clear plastic roller blinds to the top of each window. The benefit is that it doesn't allow the smaller broken glass to fly thruout your home. And notice that the storage of the clear plastic shade is at the top of the window, instead of being in some coat closet. Most roller shades are white plastic. Replace the white (can be recycled as covers for shelves in the pantry) by stappling clear plastic onto the roller, so that you can observe the activity of the wind. Another level of protection, especially for the lower windows, is to hang screened frames on the inside of the windows like those winter exterior storm window covers used in the mid-west. The screen, a stronger fabric, will prevent the glass from flying all over the furniture. Be sure to staple clear plastic on top of the screen to prevent the smaller pieces of glitter from being sprayed thruout your home. You can construct the frames yourself for the custom size windows. The hardware (looks like an open thumb) is attached to the top corners of the frame. And the L finger (the hook) is attached to the side of the inside window.
Great recommendations. Thank you! We've been looking into some options for the windows but haven't figured out exactly what we want just yet. We're glad that the windows survived!
We just found you channel. New subscribers here. Glad to see you guys making the best of the situation. Also, my husband and I are obsessed with the skeleton by the bar area.
Glad you both are safe and okay, those trees swaying looked scary. We were nervous then it shifted away from Mineral Bluff, we have a 125 foot maple tree right above our cabin and if it comes down it would demolish our cabin. Again we’re glad you boys are okay, make the best and saying many prayers for NC.
So happy to see that you guys, Wally and the cabin weathered out the storm. (Hmmm...seems there always is a storm, but this was no joke) It's still so sad to see all the areas devastated by this storm. 🙏 Glad that you got your power back on and the place looking back to shape in no time. Stay safe and well and take it easy up there. And can't wait to see Halloween! 🎃
Howdy Boys!! My cousin & his wife got stuck in Ashville due to Helene. They went there for their 30th anniversary. Glad the the storm didn't effect you to bad. Power is always an issue, but at last you didn't get flooded or had trees falling on your house. Big bear hugs from Kenny in Ohio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just met my Mom and Brother, who drove from Asheville to Knoxville, and I'm taking Mom up to my house in Columbus Ohio for a few weeks until Asheville is better.
I so glad you all are safe! I live in Erwin, TN. major damage, it completely flooded our local hospital. The employees were on top 🔝 of the roof. Thankfully, they were helicopter lifted to safety. Interstate I 26 are gone in places. Scary, here!
Glad to see you guys have weathered the storm. Here in Pinellas county Florida we are preparing to get hit for the second time😮 a large portion of the county still does not have power and probably about 6 to 8 ft of sand.
Oh my goodness, we hope that the recovery occurs fast there. Saw the forecast earlier and couldn't believe there was already a new storm out there. 🤞 for safety there.
Glad you were unscathed. Asheville didn't fare so well. Many other places too. I've been through several hurricanes here in VA, a couple of earthquakes in CA and desert sand storms, close to a Tornado or two, none of which was a fun experience. The automatic gas/propane whole house generators are the way to go. My sister and her hubby had to splurge on their 24 acres in the hills of Appomattox because when power goes out there it could be out a long time. Thankfully they have natural gas on their property (which is rare in that area). Good to see you as you whipped everything back to Pre-Helene status. Can't wait to see paint job!
You've definitely been thru a lot! And yes, we're going to be checking out some generator options soon. It definitely pays off to have that peace of mind. Thanks 👍
Oh wow, that's the first negative comment about the music choice. Usually folks say they enjoy it. Out of curiosity, why should we drop the music? We find that music provides an element of emotion at times that can elevate a clip. 🥹
I'm glad to see you guys are doing well and that you didn't have any damage to your beautiful cabin. I'm in sw Florida where we are expecting a possible direct hit from a hurricane in a few days, it may hit above me near Tampa/St Pete area now they are saying I'm in Ft Myers, so keep us in your thoughts as we brace for another hurricane. Take care and stay safe cleaning up the down trees there could be other trees that are only being held up by a branch from another tree. So many people get hurt that way the wind blows, and it breaks free, but I'm sure you know that anyway. Take care
i am some 20 miles north of chattanooga and from what i can see Helene completely by-passed us, there are some branches and disheveled items but nothing a regular storm would do, i.e. last january that ice storm took out a tree behind my property
Hey you two How lucky are you not to have a tree/s full on the cabin...it would have been total devastation for you both not to mention those of us that follow your blog But you got your arses into gear for the clean up and now all is back to being spectacular once more. Can't wait for this year's Halloween decor If it's anything like last year's it will be an extravaganza...and your anniversary to boot Cheers guys🥂🥃🍻 Tony & Wollie 🐾
Thanks so much. We're feeling lucky, but also heartbroken at those that have been impacted. Hopefully the rest of the year will be less chaotic in terms of weather. Thanks for tuning in this week. 👍
Well here we go again, another hurricane going through Florida. I should have stayed in my homestate of Maine but then there's those snow storms. Damned if you move, Damned if you don't move ! 😅 good luck with your situation! ❤
Hi Fellas This video certainly brought perspective to Hurricane season.. Pleased you are both ok.. Makes one think!! how important preparedness is for events like this.. Now I understand why many communities and individual homes have rooms for home canned goods.. I have just purchased 2 all american canners and a presto canner to start this journey of canning food.. Sadly the did not make canning part of my chefs training...Much kindness both of your way..Lochness Scottish Highlands..
Gentlemen, again, so good to see you both unscathed and no damage to your home.. I don’t want to intrude here, but you mentioned that it would be nice to have some backup power available there on the mountain. Given changing climate/weather and given your locale there in the forest, I believe that would be a prudent move. That said: Before purchasing my present condo, I lived in a home out on the side of a substantial hill/smll mountain with the lawn area ringed by huge trees. Given the possible scenarios in that environment and not wanting to invest too heavily in total back-up power for the house, I purchased a Honda 6500 watt portable generator - frame mounted, wheels, very easy to move about. Anyway, I would highly recommend one of Honda’s generators (no, I do not have any affiliation with Honda). They’re not cheap, but they are of high quality, smooth running engines, low fuel consumption, and several automatic features on the generator itself. As far as long-term storage goes, one can always add Sta-Bil brand fuel stabilizer (or Honda’s CBU fuel stabilizer). Good for up to 2 years storage. I use the stabilizer in a Toyota 4-Runner I rarely drive.. Again, did not want to intrude, but if you’re going with a mid-size, portable power unit, the Honda products cannot be beat. FYI, stay away from the less expensive generator units using Briggs-Stratton engines, etc. They’ll disappoint you in the long run - and might fail just when you need them most… Just my $.02 Just so glad you’re ok… All the best from Washington State.. :)
Thanks for the detailed advice! That makes 2 votes for a Honda generator. It definitely sounds like they pass the durability test. We're going to be researching to see what we can find out about them. 👍
After Beryle, this huge tree branch fell in my mom's drive way. I told her I wanted it because I saw this DIY on how to make a Halloween tree. I went back the next, and she said my uncle had already come and chopped it to pieces.
Glad you guys made it through the storm! 💜🏳️🌈👍🏻 We are in one of the areas hit just south of Asheville and since we are at the 2500 foot level we did well also. Driving in some of the local area, we definitely were fortunate compared to others. We had an Eco Flow 2 generator and an extra battery. We charged it up using our vehicle lighter plug. We did not open the frig from 9/27-10/6 when we finally got power back. We had plugged the frig into the generator for 6 hours per day. We did not have any waste of refrigerated food!!!! Lastly, with any storm we always follow on RU-vid, Ryan Hall Y’all. He and his crew of storm chasers are more accurate than most news meteorologists.
Glad to hear you all are ok! Sounds like it was a very devastating scene in that area. We are in touch with friends in Hendersonville that described so many trees and power lines down. Breaks our heart to hear/see it. And yep, we watch Ryan Hall at times too! 👍That's great to hear that you were able to use the Eco Flow and keep the fridge secure! We have a small Eco Flow that we used for charging various devices--and also recharged it from the car. Resourceful!
Very happy y’all are safe. Living in Ohio, that hurricane hit us. 70 mph winds and lots of rain. Several of our counties are still in a state of emergency. It wasn’t near the destruction as other states where it. I do think it ended our drought. Which doesn’t help the victims
l know how devastating a hurricane can be. l live in south texas 11miles from the coast. l have been through 4 the last was Harvey. These poor people will need all the help you can give. Please put aside political issues and lets just be nieghbors! My Cuban grandma used to say , nosotros somos fruta de diferentes árboles, pero tenemos los mismo raíces. translate , we are fruits from different trees, but we all have the same roots. Unless you have been through it, no one can begin to understand the feeling of helplessness and the desperation and anxiety and fear of an unknown future. l can imajine what these people are going through, l went through it during Harvey. God bless you both for using your format to spread the word.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much. Yes, and weather of any can kind can be so devastating to those impacted. Here's hoping the rest of the year is less chaotic for everyone.
I wanna get out from the city, it's not for me . I think you have chosen the best life style guys next to nature you built a little paradise for you far from the annoying things and people , people can be very toxic for our lives , a philosophe man said the hell is the others
