One of the major challenges of the 21st century is to reduce greenhouse gas
emissions and mitigate climate change. The transport sector is responsible for a significant share of global CO2 emissions and therefore needs to transition to more sustainable and efficient energy sources. Among the possible solutions, carbon-neutral energy technologies and e-fuels offer promising opportunities for future vehicle applications. Carbon-neutral
energy technologies use renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, or hydro, to produce electricity or hydrogen that can power electric or fuel-cell vehicles. E-fuels are synthetic fuels that are produced from renewable hydrogen and captured CO2, and can be used in conventional internal combustion engines. Both carbon-neutral energy technologies and e-fuels have the potential to reduce the carbon footprint of the transport sector, while also providing energy security and flexibility.
