thank you. I have a set of these cable glands and I think for the one I used in this video, I drilled a 3/4" hole. But please don't do that on you van based on this comment. What I always do in these situations is drilling a test hole into a piece of similar plastic and then see how good it fits. I also deburr the holes which - depending on the type of plastic - can make the hole slightly bigger (in softer materials). And always remember: it is way easier to make a small hole bigger than making a hole that is too big smaller 🙂

@@orange13 great advice I will do that... I also sprayed couple of coats of black paint on the cable glands hoping it will help with the plastic that is exposed to the weather especially the sun. If you did it over again would you drill in a different area of the box like on the side where you can protect it from the sun or attached a flat piece of material on the rack or the box to cover the adapter gland?

@@Will-sc9no yes, that's a good callout. UV damage to plastic is not to be under- estimated. the cable glands I was using are made from Nylon 66, not a super UV- resistant material, despite rated 'weatherproof' and for 'outdoors'. A coat of paint or a treating it with something like 303 (aka Sunscreen for plastic) might be a good idea. I would still mount the gland in the back of the box where it is better protected from wind-driven rain while the van is moving.

thanks Chad. How you connect the switch depends on when you want the switch LED to be on. It can be always on or it can be on when the device is off or - and that is how I think it makes the most sense - it will be on when the device is on. My red wire at 14:38 is the input into the switch and is connected to the green cable of the switch socket. it is always hot (+12V). the switch socket's blue wire is the 'output' of the switch. with the switch in the off position, the blue wire is also off (no power). with the switch in the on position, the blue wire is hot (+12V), this is the wire you need to connect to the WeBoost. with this, you can switch the WeBoost on and off. Now for the LED. it turns on when +12V is put on the switch socket's red wire. If you want it on when the switch is on then you need to connect the red wire to the blue wire. this basically puts the LED and the Weboost in parallel, they are now both controlled with the switch. And because the circuit for the LED needs to be closed (=the LED also needs minus), you need to connect the switch socket's black wire to minus (ground). Hope that makes sense....

yes. I talked to Weboost and they told me the cable cannot be shortened. the Weboost's FCC approval includes the 25ft cable and a shorter one would void this approval. Also, to avoid any feedback loops (the other antenna picking up the amplified signal from the inside antenna), distance between the 2 antennas should be as much as possible. the rear right corner of the van is the farthest away from the inside antenna on the bench seat table.

yes, thank you. I am using these black wire ties that are rated 'UV resistent' Recently I also picked up some stainless steel zip ties, they are for sure UV resistent.

thank you. For what it is, I like it. I have been in many locations where I had a very faint cellphone signal outside the van and nothing inside. or even nothing outside at ground level but a bit of signal 10ft up in the air. in those situations, the WeBoost reliably provided a signal inside the van. However, I have also been in many locations where no cell phone signal was available at all (or not from my carrier) so the WeBoost had nothing it could amplify. So the WeBoost can certainly help in a lot of situations but it cannot guarantee a signal everywhere.

hmmm...yes, the black (ground) runs up to the switch, this is just for the LED backlight of the switch, it needs, ground, too, and it also runs to the cigarette lighter socket. might be hard to see in the 15:27 shot but it is there.

thank you. No, I do all of this as a hobby with no commercial interest. All parts I used came from Amazon. The nut holder thing I made from a piece of plastic (from an old window blinds) and a nail. And the shelf the booster sits on is made from a scrap piece of plywood and a threaded rod. all leftover pieces i found in my garage.

sorry for the late reply. I still haven't mounted it permanently. it is sitting on the table and with its rubber base, doesn't even move that much during driving.

@TheFirstMikeJones Weboost isn't very specific about the booster install location. it just says 'find a location' and many people put it behind a cabinet or other confined space. I think the space under the bench seat is much better in terms of ventilation than most other places. Did yours die in the winter when the heater was running and the Weboost was on? it gets warm under the bench seat when the heater is on but even then, with the big passive cooler that the Weboost is, I don't think this would cause a lot of problems. after all, the Weboost draws only about 1.8A which is less than 25W. even if all of this would be used to generate heat, it should be easy to dissipate even in a warm environment with that massive cooler. Did Weboost replace them under warranty? did they say they overheating is what broke them? Maybe you can put a remote thermometer (think BBQ meat thermometer) on the heatsink and watch it in different conditions? Running on its own, with the Revel's heater on, ... perhaps that can give you some clues? The switch is a passive element, well, it is of course active since can switch but it doesn't do anything else, and it is the original 12V power supply from Weboost. Unless you switch it in excessively (like every few seconds for hours and hours), I cannot see how it would to any harm. In one of your videos I saw that you have the outside antenna mounted in the same location I installed mine. with the inside antenna on the table, this should provide sufficient distance between the 2 to avoid any feedback loops. and even if, the WeBoost protect itself from that.
