Wedding Event of the Season: Joe Buissink 

Probably the most inspiring talk on photography I've seen. Joe Rocks - listen to him.

I was shaken awake. I thought I was too old to continue inspired. But I got a boost from Joe. Man, did I feel like shooting a wedding again. capture those emotions. and away with all my flashes. Thank you. I am reborn. Andre from the Netherlands .

Although technically, Joe's photos are not perfect, his whole thing is capturing the moment which he does better than most. Too many of us get caught up on the right lighting or composition, or the best bokeh or sharpness or a lens. Photography is an art not a science. I think his style is liberating

I have been shooting weddings for over 20 years and you have inspired me! Thank you so very much. you have lit me up and am looking forward to going back to what I am really about, Passion, images that please me, EMOTIONS, because that is why I love what I do. my emotions have always come out in my images, I just got lost with what people think they wanted and it isn't about that at all. Joe ... thank you so much for all of these videos!!! As a photographer I thought there was something wrong with me!!! I don't like to pose people!!! I stink at it!!! I love to capture people when they have absolutely no idea that I am. Even my own family has called me sneaky for doing this. But that's when you get something amazing!! I watch your videos all the time, then I go practice more to get it down the way I want it to look. Although I have a hard time with your slide shows ... I end up with tears rolling down my face because the amazing emotions that you captured! Thanks to you I now know that isn't a dang thing wrong with me as a photographer, it's just my style and what I do. That's what makes me stand out and I know I won't be for everyone, but that's alright. The ones that I am right for will get something amazing from me. They will get their entire day with every emotion that they felt and be able to look back at that day and feel it all over again. Even I chose the photographer for my wedding I was very explicit about not having that many posed photos. When I look back on my wedding day I see what everyone was feeling including me. That isn't something that every photographer can accomplish. You are to say the least my inspiration for doing it my way!!! Thank you!!!

When he talks on stagem its so much more than talking, its so inspiring to listen to, to watch, I learned so much about myself as photografer in 1:43 minutes than what I thought I had done in 2 years. I will never forget the 5 words, "It's all about the moment" and when he say when I go to a wedding I go there to make MYSELF happy, sure to someone it can sound arrogant, but when you listen to him you understand it so much! You sell yourself and your style and if you dont find yourself or style you truly arent happy about a picture! Thank you so much for this video!

Thanks for this great Video. Opened my eyes for what is *realy* important for shooting a wedding, even shooting anything. That it is important to love what you do, and that this will be reflected in the pictures you take.

Wow! Just played around with P mode! Never knew my camera could do that in that setting! My husband also does photography & the saying around our house now is: "I shoot P mode." It's funny. Thanks, Joe! I must have watched this video a hundred times. And even though I don't do wedding photography, your passion and your images in this video are extremely inspirational. I have recommended to every one in my photo club to watch it, and many have. Keep on inspiring us, Joe! Your work is great!

Joe is certainly a master of the 'decisive moment'

I love Joe's work and I try to implement what I learn from him into my work. However, shooting weddings, P mode does not really work for me. What I found to work really well is the following (for Nikon, don't know about Canon, but I guess it must be very similar): - Set the camera to auto-ISO - with maximum sensitivity set to 6400 - minimum shutter speed to what you belive will still produce an image without motion blur, e.g. 1/160 - Aperture priority - this allows you to set depth of field to what you want The rest will be done by the camera automatically. If the scene gets darker, the camera will first raise the ISO until it reaches the limit of 6400 (as set above). If the picture would become underexposed, the camera will violate the minimum shutter speed limit means it will lower the shutter speed. So, the camera will sacrifice shutter speed over ISO. If the scene would become brighter, the camera will decrease the ISO while keeping the shutter speed at 1/160. Once the camera reaches ISO 100, it will increase the shutter speed. I found that this is what works best for me. In most cases, I only need to worry about aperture means depth of field. Everything else will be done by the camera itself.

Incredible! Thank you. Loved your background about being a second shooter. I stayed a hobbyist, because of this preference You have brought to life a style I've preferred since I started video taping friends weddings in the 1980's just as a wedding present.

All is o.k. but the P mode "tactics" he explain just doesn't work. I've tried it on 5DII and on 7D. Everytime you lock the "AE lock", no matter which button you set for the function, it stays the same. With releasing the thumb from the button does not override the settings so you still have AE lock on. I takes some seconds while it automatically cancels the AE lock or the only possible way to cancel the lock is wait 4-6 seconds or press the AF point select button to cancel. The big bucks in wedding photography are made by about 10 people world wide and they do it by holding seminars.

Saludos Joe , Todo es muy inspirador, Pero creo que en una conferencia o Un dia para adriestrar fotografos, Se debe hablar de fotografia y no de Un curso de sicologia, todo se puede combinar siempre que se hable de tecnicas fotograficas. Quiero dejar claro que en este momento es uno de los mejores fotografos. Pero dando adiestramientos o conferencias se pierde mucho tiempo en lo lindo que es el cielo y las estrellas y se habla poco de los tipos de lentes, tecnicas de expocision, que tipo de iso utilizar la iluminacion y otros. Gracias.

reach people want different things, regular people just want nice wedding pictures, his style is not for everyone

There are lots of wedding photographers who could do those kind and quality of image. So why would i spend 5 digit dollars for those kind of images? I would choose a photographer who would blow my mind with their pictures if i were to spend that amount! Not a photog that blows my mind through his words!

Good thing he can talk because he can't shoot. Phones on auto click better pictures than him.

This guy definitely managed to sell himself, because his work is nothing spectacular.
