I wonder what Dave shoots on a real course.I was told he is scratch.

Marybeth - he played at Indiana U on a golf scholarship and competed against Nicklaus in college. He’s participated in high level amateur events since then but has focused on teaching the short game since the 70s. He has 11 major champion golfers among his students. I’ve been reading his work for 30 years.

Don't forget that Mr Pelz has worked a lot with Phil and teaches the 'rest of us' ways to generate success on the course with greater margin for error. Phil has hit probably millions of wedge shots and can hit amazing shots from wherever he likes. Phil, however is not a statistician and for probably 99 percent of golfers, his shots invite the types of errors that Mr Pelz has analysed and measured for decades. While I love to watch and listen to PM and play around with his technique, until I'm scratch (hopefully in a few months), I'm sticking to DP's wisdom which has been fundamental in getting me to a low mark. My 2c and cheers from Australia - Dave :-)

@Greg Profitt- You seem to have an infatuation with Phil's teachings. This is the second time I've seen you make that or a similar comment. In Phil's short game DVD, for a flop shot Phil says to open the face wide, then reposition your body until the leading edge of the club faces the target. THEN.....swing down the target line, not across it (as Pelz advocates here). 2 points: 1. Have you tried doing that? Swinging down the target line with a wide open face and the leading edge pointing at the target? It takes phenomenal athleticism, which Phil has but not the average golfer. 2. Did you listen to the beginning of this video when Pelz explains that he wouldn't teach a Mickelson flop shot to someone who can't get the ball airborne? Then goes on to explain that instead of a flop shot he would teach that person his version of a high, soft shot. Which then goes into detail on how to do it. He is NOT teaching Phil in this video! BTW Phil often doesn't practice what he preaches. He teaches to NEVER play a pitch or chip shot with the ball in the middle of the stance. He says it should be somewhere near the front foot or rear foot (even as far rear as outside the rear foot). I have yet to find Phil hit any of his wedges from a position other than somewhere around the middle of his stance in competition , unless, he is hitting a specialty shot. He may demonstrate differently in clinics and YT lessons but he doesn't in real competition. Many pros say one thing and do another. That's why golf is such an enigma.

@@TheNYgolfer With all due respect you're mistaken. He plays flop shots aggressively off his front foot.. He uses little bounce and slides the club right under the ball with his weight on his front foot. I do #1 all the time playing Golf. I'd never try to hit a high shot with the ball in the middle of my stance either. Here's a video of Phil playing the shot right off this front foot. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GA2-DEEkU9M.html

@@gaprofitt Phil's technique is so old school with the forward press bullshit. Most golfer don't have the skills to constantly play that way and it's way easier to play the Seve and Ollie way of pitching and chipping. Slightly open face, neutral shaft lean, releasing the club at impact and using the bounce.
