The Addams Family started as a single page cartoon in a weekly magazine in the 30s. Do yourselves a solid and watch a couple of the episodes from the series from the 60s, and the two 90s movies (especially Addams Family Values). The pickup lady was a nod to Large Marge from Pee Wee's Big Adventure, the creature to Beetlejuice when he turns into a snake. There are a lot of references to other Burton films.

I'm sure you both would enjoy watching the 2 Addams Family movies from the 80s. You really get a good perception of a younger Wednesday. is a teen drama but Wednesday POV alone makes halfway between a parody and deconstruction (i am only one episode 4) so i an in for the ride. The main actress is doing phenomenal job her alone can carry this series of the writers don't fuck up. some lines were in the cringe side but the flat tone and lack of positive or negative reaction to the reception neutralize that, and let's not get started on her body language.
