Even as a frequent vod watcher, i'd vote no for seeing chat on screen without the option to turn it off. Chat can be very distracting - the community is great but i find myself reading chat more than actually watching the stream/vod and needing to go back to see things that happened. If im watching a vod im doing so with the understanding and acceptance that i will not get to see chat (unless its a youtube stream which allows chat replay, but thats still not on screen and has the option to minimize it). Sure, it might suck to not be able to be part of the chats, but as a vod watcher you aren't part of the chat anyway, and then on the occasions you are able to make it to a live stream, the chat interaction becomes a bonus. Not to mention that sometimes, even though the chat mods are awesome and do a good job, the chat can be way off topic and sometimes get argumentative or start discussing things not everyone wants to see, and if there's no option to turn off or minimize chat, it feels non-consensual. TL;DR, I think the main takeaway from my comment should be that it's distracting and takes away from the viewing more than it adds, in my opinion, and having chat on-screen by force never actually feels good.
Agree, I miss it but only cause I liked reading it but I realize I put all my attention to staring at chat than the actual screen. Wish there was an option to show it on stream but not in the vod cause I’d like that
Oh btw, i have startet listening to Tool now, because of you people. And i am absolutely smitten. Have had trouble finding enthusiasm for music and bands since Bennington died, as Linkin Park was my absolute favorite band, and it was right on top of some very traumatic events in my own life. But man! Tool has me hooked! The complexity of their beats, and the layers in the lyrics are amazing. They were just what i needed in my life.
Woohoo! The best part? Tool's so wildly influential, it's just the gateway drug into modern Progressive Metal :D Between the Buried and Me, Mastodon, Animals as Leaders, Opeth - or less 'metal' bands, like Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation - all undeniably influenced by Tool in one way or another (despite half of them being around for about as long!)
Skizz, some of your older VODs show only the most recent Twitch comment in a little box under the facecam. I liked that--it was there to look at if I wanted to, but subtle and unobtrusive enough that it was really easy to ignore if I didn't want to see the chat. The other thing I liked about it was that even coming back to a years-old VOD that was recorded before I found your channel, there were times when someone in the Twitch chat would say exactly what I had just been thinking.
PRO TIP: You probably DO NOT want to put chat in the stream for RU-vid. You could get demonetized easily. Don't give anyone the chance to wrong you. If people want to see chat, let them watch the VODs on Twitch. Love and Peace! Awesome stream!
I'm very late with this, so you're probably already done, but have you considered just dimming the light in that room once it's done so that the berry bushes don't all grow berries? They are great for the prickling effect in the maze, but if it's too dark, they won't give any food. Just put one light in one corner or something and it'll be fine! Just make sure you're not at 0 light level, of course. :D
I come here to get away from twitch chat… 😂 Seriously though, it’s irrelevant to me. I typically treat hermit stream vids as podcasts I occasionally look at.
Hey skizz random, I see your everything through RU-vid, but I threw my back out last week and is struggling through waiting on workmans comp before I can even be treated so I’m mostly confined to my bed, I appreciate you somehow finding a way to stream and post such long videos around your super busy schedule for me to relax and enjoy as I play Minecraft from my bed. I don’t comment much anymore because I’ve discovered a lot of bad narcissists preying on my empathy before I got hurt and it’s given me a lot of distrust in humans. I knew people could be bad because I’m a history buff and I know the nature of humans. I just never realized how little people feeling anything and how much energy I would use to alleviate the suffering of others not realizing I was enabling and putting myself in a situation to be preyed upon. Could you and impulse do a podcast on youre interactions with toxic people? You said during a stream yesterday about how someone should break a friendship off with someone who is potentially toxic but failed to mention potential gaslighting. I say that because when I confronted my toxic friends about how they made me feel about everything and it got flipped on me. I know we can all be toxic at times and no one is perfect but how does one decide when that line needs to be acknowledged and confronted about? I can’t believe I typed all this on yours being a guy that literally stopped commenting on all the hermits stuff because I trust people so little nower days.
Yeah…gaslighting is toxic. It’s psychological abuse. Don’t engage with those people who think gaslighting is funny. It’s all over the internet, too, so you need to mindfully curate what is presented to you. If you’re curious what sources might be actually truthful or lying by omission or gaslighting, research original sources before accepting anything as “gospel”. It will help your mental health if you are proactive.
I don’t know much about Twitch. But I think I prefer without the chat on the screen. I feel like if people want the chat they can go to Twitch. But I would be fine either way. Not to be insulting, but I feel like 90% of Twitch chat is just garbage emotes and things. I don’t really get the appeal.
1:58:20 skittles is actually a great name! Unless brand names become an issue lol! Sometimes chats just get a name and not necessarily a “thing” that the streamer calls them. Like iskall calls his stream chat Dylans😂 there’s a streamer that just calls his viewers the Doozers like bulldozers but derpy and they have a catchphrase “hup! 2! 3! 4!” or something like that, if I remember right. It’s just fun when you find something that fits well and it catches on easily :) A small streamer I’ve watched for a couple years has the word dictionary in her channel so the viewers are formally known as “words” haha
Aw wait the dogs would be great since you’re such a dog dad. Ren’s are the CyberDogs, so it’s not plain old dogs really so it’s technically not the same if your chat goes with dogs I say
I'm a fan of on-screen comments on stream replays, as someone who almost exclusively only ever watches replays thanks to my timezone. It provides context to things in case you don't read questions aloud (which to be fair you are very good at). As long as it doesn't take up much screen space that is - 5 rows of text is more than enough They're mostly annoying for streamers who, uh... attract a 'certain audience' - GeminiTay for example. She gets so many awkward 'compliments' from parasocial simps that I would rather just not see at all because it makes a part of me die inside lol
@@beccafett4582 except they don't grow back the way sweet berries do. Once picked, they won't grow in the same location without bonemeal. It's a cool idea, but he wanted a more renewable (and fast growing) food source, not to mention being extra dangerous. Lol. But now you have me thinking about something for a game in my realm....
Hey Skizz (or hi impulse curating skizz's comments lol) - every time you login to the server, your client mentions an update to vivecraft - you can probably remove that mod if you don't need it anymore haha, your game will boot faster at the very least :P
Impulse, can you tell Skizz not to get rid of all the berry bushes? (Since you said he never reads his comments.) He needs multiple bushes for when people want to go through again and again or right after another person. Berries don’t grow that fast and Skizz doesn’t know red stone to use bonemeal. 😅
I would love to have chat scroll by on screen. But if it distracts others, i can understand that too... And since the streams are still available on twitch afterwards, we can always go over there to peek, if there is something extra interesting going on...
This is what plays in my head every time skizz yells "ouch". Wacky gator / Billie Sastard ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A8gcDJ45_zA.html
I can't watch when it's the whole stream, personally - it's just too much, especially when it's a busy chat where you can barely read things anyway. Other VODs will show chat at the beginning, which is tolerable. Maybe set up an OBS scene to start your stream with that has chat overlaid? That would be ultra smart and handsome.
