On a related note: yesterday I realized that the old "Batman" series with Adam West had a Joker played by a gay Latino, and a Catwoman played by Eartha Kitt, who was black. That was in the 1960s. And nobody had to make a big deal about how progressive and inclusive this casting was. Imagine if they did the same thing again - nowadays. One half of mankind would start yapping that Batman FINALLY starts representing minorities, and the other half would roll their eyes at another "woke" casting choice, and ultimately nobody would watch it. And all because Hollywood still mistakenly believes that all this "woke" talk guilt-trips people into watching movies and series. No. Just don't say anything - and they will watch it simply because it's good.
Apparently you can never have too many girlboss stories. I for one am waiting for them to show the ultimate girlboss move: lifting a heavy object by themselves because they need no man.
Removing little people from the big screen because its offensive to cast them for certain roles is like saying that being a little person is offensive. Stripping them of potential roles and pushing them out of Hollywood i'd argue is a lot more damaging. Give them the roles and representation they want instead of letting journalists and twitter mobs decide for them.
Right I have been brainstorming that all little people movies would totally sell but they'd never get made because somehow paying small actors is not cool? Now with modern robots you don't need them for an R2D2 suit so I guess no work for them. Peter Dinklage cemented himself as the greatest small person actor by being the last one. Kicked out the footstool from under him as he climbed those wee little stairs.
The real problem is that you're having people who aren't little people speaking for little people. How insulting is it for another group to tell you what your group should be offended by? No. How about we let little people speak for themselves, and when they say they're offended by something (or not), we listen?
@@HermitGeek a guy who's breakout roles comes from... being cast because of his dwarfism. Anyone get the feeling of pulling up the ladder behind him? Another example of an actor who's conflated his fame with authority to speak on behalf of all people with dwarfism, or any other group identity celebrities think they can become King and Spokesperson on behalf of. Also, I still have zero idea the 'negative stereotypes' Dinklage thought Snow White pushes, considering they're the protagonists. They have exaggerated, archetypal personalities but that really has nothing to do with them being dwarfs.
The only reason why we know who Peter Dinklage is, is because he took a "little person" role on Game of Thrones. That role made him famous and opened up door's that were locked. This movie could have been the beginning of a career for seven other little people. It could have been their Game of Thrones moment. Political correctness hurts people more than it helps.
Oh yeah just because he's short doesn't mean he's good or can't plot evil. People put a lot of weird things on differently able people in fact I remember back to the riots and troubles of Summer 2019 one of the biggest rabble rousers was a guy in a wheelchair because what are you going to do hit him so he just went around bumping and trying to run people over. Dinkladge is getting old. Not many leading man rolls for him left he has to rip their careers apart while they're still sprouting.
A huge problem is that Snow White that snow white is poisoned by her step mother because her step mother is scared Snow White's beauty will outshine her. The step Mother is played by Gal Gadot, so that's not going to happen.
Who said anything about the step mother being evil? In this telling of the story she is obviously going to be a victim of the evil perpetrated by the insatiable father who does not believe in gender representation and has raised his beauty standards so high it forced the step mom to abandon snow white. As always they will get together in the end to defeat all the patriarchal men in their lives who have kept them from realizing their full potential to live happily ever after.
In this movie, the step mother will be a widow that was a traditional housewife while her husband was alive. She is not jealous of Snow Brown for her youth and beauty, she'll be jealous that Snow Brown got to be the strong girl boss she always dreamed of being. In the end, she'll be redeemed and the "true villain" will be The Patriarchy, because women can never truly be evil anymore, only men can. I jest, but...would you really be surprised if I just predicted the entire plot?
Yep. Because the stepmother is Gal Gadot the first time she asks the mirror who the fairest of them all is, it will just show her reflection and the movie will end.
I'm surprised you didn't make fun of Disney for initially claiming the photo was fake and trying to get Daily Mail to take it down before backtracking and admitting it was real.
There was a series of books in the 90's called "Politically Correct Bedtime Stories," which was a silly playful satire, tweaking the nose of the politically correct movement at the time. It's worth checking out now to see how erstwhile satire has become reality.

Midget actors already have a incredibly hard time finding any acting roles in movies and TV shows but fact that they're not even going to give them a chance to be in this movie is really sad.
Precisely because of a midget actor who got his fame from roles he was cast in... due to his dwarfism. Putting a progressive spin on a piece of fiction who's main character is described by her skin colour is a dumb idea to begin with, but if they had to, why not give it a positive spin? I know the dwarfs in the story are the mythological Germanic creatures, but if they do want *some* link between the two, why not emphasise their industrious, selfless and principled nature they show in the story?
Probably the reason why they didn't cast little people was Peter Dinklage went on a tirade on a podcast being against hiring little people for Snow White. In a way, it is kinda similar to gamer booth girls who acted as models but it was determined to be offensive and later removed.
It’s just so difficult to see which characters they are supposed to be. When I was younger I thought Snow White was imagining them and they represented how she felt, I think that could have worked here
Ultimately, that is how all fairy tales work - they represent developments inside yourself, and the characters are different parts of your psyche. The "evil stepmother" is nearly always the self-destructive part of your psyche, the "young woman/princess/prince/young man" represents your drive to live and create, and the dwarves - I just love those. They dig, and afterwards they bring Snow-White the gems that they found underground. What a wonderful metaphor: a part of your soul that "digs down deep" for you and brings all kinds of valuable things to the light! I think the original fairy tale is about surviving in a hostile environment, and finding mental shelter with your own protective inner drives. For a time. You can't stay with the dwarves forever. Eventually you have to face the evil stepmother and her toxic ("poisoned") apple.
Buy if they DID hire disabled people to play disabled characters, idiots would complain saying they're being exploited for their disabilities, even though the disabled people are perfectly fine with the role.
The Snow White story goes MUCH further back in history than 1937. That's just the year Walt Disney decided to steal it, not create it. He did, however, follow the original story as best he could. As for Dwarves, many countries throughout Europe have fables of The Little People, as Darby O'Gill called them, along with the folklore of many Native American tribes, such as the Muslogee Creek Indians, meaning they may have been in the Magical or Spiritual realm. Also, it was hard to travel back then. If you're in the forest, no good roads, and no need for things beyond your locale, then you don't leave, and in a small village, the genetic lineage doesn't tend to expand. Then, a little man and tiny woman have many mini kids, with dwarfism, who- by the way- would be excellent miners, as they wouldn't have to stoop in the rather short tunnels, so we're probably highly sought after for such an occupation. Disney needs to think about things like...Oh, I don't know.... Facts. Also, keeping true to the original authors vision! If they want something different, make a new story with other characters. Don't ruin a classic. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

If rachel wanted to be taken seriously, she should be fighting to get dwarf actors their roles in this movie. Instead, she's making this all about herself and acting like she's the first girlboss.

Snow white the animated film made/ saved Disney back in 1937. Seems appropriate that Snow White is whats going to kill Disney in 2023. This remake is going to bomb so hard.
I don't mind seeing a diverse cast, but I hate that I can't question what kind of fantasy world allows people in small insular communities to have such different genetics, and how does this happen. As a bonus, see the Bone Reavers in that Willow series. Oh wait you can't watch that anymore, nevermind.
Im actually genuinely upset aboit the dwarf situation. I dont care what color, race or gender they are, they are taking acting roles away from actual little people out there who could have used the limelight being cast into a major disney film. Dwarves are already underrepresented in hollywood and showcasing them is not only giving them more work in acting, but also benefitting the body positivity movement the way it was intended.
Let's compare this to Snow White and The Huntsman. The dwarves were mixed but short, and they were cool! Its been done before on Love Action, why can't we just do it again?

Speaking as a former Disney artist, Dopey, like his personality, was dopey, not retarded. Time Bandit was a perfect guide for how to handle the Dwarves.
As a kid I could tell Snow was running away from a killer. Her stepmom is trying to kill her. The original did not pull any punches when it came to showing how vanity can kill you, eat you alive, and take away everything you worked to have. The Evil Queen lost her appeal to everyone and went on a "kill my stepdaughter at all cost " killing spree. She wanted to kill the Dwarves just as much as killing Snow white and she failed. But nooooo that's not gonna fly these days. We can't have a cautionary story about kindness vs vanity these days.
I think the dwarves idea Disney had here is brilliant, and good for them for breaking the ridiculous negative stereotyping by instead of little people, simply casting with a bit of diversity. The tall irish one is dopey, the Mexican guy plays sleepy, the scot is drinky, female one is premenstry ...
To be honest... I think as far as the look goes, Rachel Zegler is fine. She's quite pale and can be made to look like snow white. The problem is that they are touting is as "representation" and they cast her very specifically so they could virtue signal about diversity. Remember in the 90s, when Dean Cain, a half-Japanese man, played Superman? And no one, neither the studio nor Superman fans, said anything about his race. No one cared. He essentially looked the part and he did a good job in the role. But that kind of non-racialism isn't possible anymore in the 20s.

I definitely think the first idea on what Disney could you brought up is pretty feasible, Vito. Like what was done with oompaloompas. You can just change the dwarf’s skin color to something fantasy-like to make it visually clear that these are fantasy creatures, or just give them giant elf ears or something. (But definitely should cast little people, regardless)
I am a 54 yr old, white, sci-fi/fantasy geek. They could put out Mud Black and the 7 Real Housewives of Disney for all i care. Why are we talking about this movie? I was never going to see it. If you are anything but a pre-teen girl, this movie isn't for you. Nobody commenting on here was sitting around hoping a new Snow White movie would come out, and is now devastated by the loss of their childhood.

The most fantastic and incredible part of this whole thing, to me, is that we are supposed to accept Rachel Zegler as being better looking than Gal Gadot. That's beyond dumb. Rachel is decent looking, but kinda plain. Not a stand-out. Her looks are very common. Gal Gadot is striking, and uncommonly attractive. I get that attraction is subjective, but Rachel being common looking and plain is an objective fact,

We literally just had the new LOTR series and exactly zero people said anything about hiring small actors to play Hobbits. As for Dopey, you just change him from someone who is silly to someone who is TRYNIG to be funny. Like a Charlie Chaplin type character. This isn't remotely hard to solve creatively. Whoever is driving these decisions is absolutely obsessed with Twitter and is trying to build a personal brand of being this literally perfect person creatively. However, as with most people in these roles the problem is that there is so much weakness all the way up the chain of command in most places, that no one has the stomach to say "Actually that's a stupid idea and totally unnecessary"

So her preparations should include politics, economy, social studies, and emotional intelligence. So she can be a GOOD leader. Not just any selfish leader. Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" had badass Tolkien Dwarves, and Thor (Hemsworth) as the Huntsman. Between the original animated movie, and that dark retelling.... what the hell even is THIS? This was never going to be anything other than a disappointing half-measure.
If Wee Man had been in it i would've watched it just for him. They could have made him Dopey and explained that he got brain damage from being reckless in the mines and let Wee Man do some crazy stunts
it will out-perform 'barbie' and win the academy award for everything. i predict the media will suggest that we should just stop making movies now that the best film that was ever was and shall ever exist has changed the world and brought universal peace, love, and understanding. this will be the movie that makes aliens decide that we've finally advanced far enough as a race to visit. it will cure addiction. it will rewire our brains to correct wrong-thinking and mental disorders. it will be the next step in our evolution as a species. or it will completely bomb and quickly be shuffled off to streaming to be memory holed, never to be spoken of again except by 'those kind' of youtubers....

They should have just painted the Dwarves' skin with colors that correspond to their namesakes. Kept the dwarf actors, and merely added a slight colorful layer of "magic" to the bunch. Boom, problem solved. Move on.
I feel bad for the little people. Isn't "little people" worse than dwarf or midget? It's a direct description of their handicap if you want to call it that! I don't call it a handicap because I think to myself if I had a handicap I wouldn't recognize it or at least I wouldn't out loud because I wouldn't want to be limited just as I wouldn't want to be limited by knowing my IQ or anything else. I'm just a person. Anyways, that's just a bit of a spiel on that. Really, I'm mad at Dinklage for screwing dwarf actors out of gainful employment. You could do worse in terms of acting gigs than one of the Seven Dwarfs in Snow White. Get this: Snow Brown and the Seven D-iversity Hires of Various Heights and Handicaps. "She's not dreaming of true love. She's dreaming of becoming the leader she was meant to be." So she's dreaming of becoming a SINK- single income no kids. That's the feminist dream- a dream that ugly women use to subjugate beautiful women so they can be made as miserable as they are. And they're miserable because they can't get a man. Let's just be clear. Or really they think they can't get a man. Any woman can get a man. ANY WOMAN can get a man, I don't care how ugly you are.
