Week 17-20 update I go over my progression from using a high lift in my shoes to slowly getting back to wearing regular tennis shoes. I also discuss some fears I have with getting back and the importance of listening to your body. Remember, it's a journey and a process!
0:33 - Week 13 - Partial re-rupture
-0:51 - 2nd opinion and possible PRP injection
1:15 - Not a good time for PRP injection because of the required recovery time
2:00 - still deciding about PRP
2:20 - non-surgical side achilles tendinopathy
3:00 - just started wearing real shoes - transition from a heel to a flat shoe
3:45 - important to consider shoes
4:30 - consider things that might contribute to other compensations
4:45 - no jumping, taking it easy
4:55 - consistent barbell calf raises
5:10 - 3 way calf raises
5:25 - standing soleus calf raises
5:40 - eccentric single leg calf raises
6:00 - plan on shifting from double leg strengthening to single leg
6:31 - PT - still doing a lot of BFR and external focus of control
7:00 - plan to hike in July at Zion National Park
7:30 - hiking more and walking more with my dog to prepare
7:50 - 10,000 steps a day which can be difficult!
8:10 - fatigue or achy when switching shoes
8:40 - good to listen to your body on the bad days
9:15 - really good PT days and really bad PT days
10:15 - releve walks forward and backwards
10:28 - jumping pull ups
10:45 - remember to work both sides of your body!
11:30 - plans going forward
12:10 - goals to getting back to jumping movements and exercises
13:00 - feeling good 20 weeks post-op
13:33 - using foam pad to help
13:50 - Just listening to your body is important!
14:30 - would love to help others going through this
Please remember we all heal at our own pace. Always consult your doctors/surgeons before weight bearing or changing your movement patterns as you progress through recovery

Omg these videos are soo helpful! It’s really nice to see how much you push it in the gym. I weight train and I’m trying to recover to get back to performing. Seeing you doing more than me on soleus calf raises has inspired me to up mine. Also your re rupture video has made me want to take time with things too. So thank you. I am currently at week 13 post op

Great to read about your journey, thanks for sharing - but also sorry about the recent setback! I am today 7.5 weeks post-op, ruptured AT while climbing on right leg. That was only about 4 months after I had a luxation of peroneal tendon left (operated early Dec), so lots of rehab since end of last year. Just one question now that I was told after 6 weeks in a cast (2 week NWB, 2 week PWB with PF cast, 2 week flat cast progerssibg to FWB during week 6) I can just use normal shoes: how did your normal walking progress, without DF it is very slow and easily goes into limp-mode if try to go faster?

Thank you Lauri and I am happy to share my journey if it helps others who are going through this! I am sorry to see that you have been through so much this past year! I would not rush the walking especially without DF. The type of shoe you wear can help you out for sure! I would recommend a shoe with a higher drop 8-10mm would be best (heel higher than the ball of your foot). I am currently wearing Hoka shoes which have a lower drop of 4mm but they have a rocking motion to help me have a normal gait. You can always check out my Instagram page @thephysiofix as I have other recommended products in my link tree on my home page or if you would like to set up a video visit I can help create a custom PT program to help you on your recovery journey. I will attach the scheduling link to help you if you are interested in going that route. calendly.com/thephysiofix/30min

Thanks for the reply and great tips, appreciated! I actually have HOKAs too for running so will give them a try…it actually feels slightly better day by day since I wrote the message. But if my ’traditional’ physio feels inadequate etc. will book a time, really nice option with remote consultation since I am based in Europe! Thanks again, and all the very best on your journey, will follow it through a few months behind 💪
