The greatest benefits of gaining my electrical license is to be able to help people with quality work at an affordable price and also help train our future upcoming electrician apprentices! If I can do this so can they! With God all is possible. Thank you!

Joey from Virgina here, I wanted to just say im starting week 4 today of the course through YT, I wasnt going to use this because I figured I could study on my own and I would figure it out. Then I started going through the NEC and realized, "I have no idea what to focus on." Watching your courses and you going over this is HUGE!! I mean its absolutely a game changer. I have taken your advice and also applied for the VA commercial and residential Electrical inspectors core courses while going through this. I just want to say I am very appreciative of you putting this out here as a guide and I will continue to use this as a tool and refer others in the business towards you. I will update when im a licened inspector and electrician. Will be paying forward in the near future. Thanks again man.

why do we use the lighting load table to calculate whole house load? I get that we can add it the 3va's per square foot but why use it to percentage the small appliance circuits too?

where in the optional method does it explicitly say to apply the demand factor at the end instead of just to the general load?

in the optional method for multifamily units you stated that we are to include the heating or the cooling in the total ... But dont we always include either the heating or the cooling in the total... depending on which one is larger?
@robduncan7409
@robduncan7409 2 года назад
When it comes to heating and cooling, are you using the larger nameplate rating of the two because, logically, you're only using one at a time? Or does it explicitly state to use the larger of the two in the code?
@Electricalexamcoach
@Electricalexamcoach 2 года назад
Great question, yes there is an actual code that says if there are loads that will not work at the same time you do not have to calculate them both only the larger of the two I think the code verbage is non-coincidal
@robduncan7409
@robduncan7409 2 года назад
Also, when calculating with the optional method for a single family dwelling, why are you adding the heating/cooling appliance load after you calculate your other appliances and general lighting with the demand factor? And using the heating/cooling in the whole calculation in the mutlifamiliy unit optional method? Im not understanding where it says to do it that way or why its done that way
@Electricalexamcoach
@Electricalexamcoach 2 года назад
Unfortunately brother that's just the way they have you do it on the single family it's after the demand Factor on the multifamily it's all together it spells it out right there

Great videos! I notice that you don't include the largest motor (extra 25%) in your standard clacs. Is there a reason for leaving this out? I've always been taught it must be included and was surprised not to see it here. I realize it usually doesn't make much difference to the outcome, so perhaps that's why. But I guess now in the 2020 NEC, it will likely be more of a factor as the A/C will typically be the largest motor load in a dwelling (since the change to 220.60).... so it has more potential impact than it used to have. Thoughts? On a related subject, in commercial calcs, I don't see it clearly spelled out in the code whether or not the extra 25% (for continuous load) is built into the factors for sign and outline lighting, track lighting, and show window lighting. It seems every site I go to, they do it differently. Some add it; some don't. Do we need to add that to our calcs? Thanks for all your work! James
@Electricalexamcoach
@Electricalexamcoach Год назад
You are correct, I don't teach the 25% I think they need to get rid of it LOL. And as far as those lighting load calcs no I in my opinion you would not have the 125%

I’ve always been taught that heat pump is same as AC just running in reverse ? Also that most heat pumps have back up strip heat for when it’s in the 20’s or colder and the compressor goes into defrost mode therefore you have to figure AC and Back up strip heat? Please help me , I’m confused!!! Thanks Coach!

Wait... at 21:06, wouldnt you subtract 3000 for each of the 9 units? Otherwise your assuming that 8 of those units will use only 35 percent of all their power instead of the first 3000 at full demand and the rest at less demand? Those other 9 units will use power the same way the first does. It sould be 27000 subtracted not only 3000. No?

If I could start over I'd try harder to go to college and learn computer programming. Then I'd want to become a programmer in some version of the C language. However, I'm thrilled to be doing manual work at my age. I believe getting my electrical license will give my customer more confidence in my competence when they're thinking about hiring me to do a job.

Hello, greetings from Ecuador, I follow the series because I want to learn electricity the right way, Yesterday had a discussion with my daughter about using the air conditioning and heating at the same time, and yes there are people who do it, when it is summer they turn on the air conditioned very high, they cool down the house, then they turn on the heating to regulate the temperature and when it is winter they turn on the heating very high, to regulate they open the windows or turn on the air conditioning, when I was in NJ I had catch a tenant with both equipments on many times. Them, the utility bill was higher than the rent that we collected from her, but now that I live in Ecuador I pay 30 USD every month because we don't need a heater or air conditioning, the temperature is between 20 and 10 degrees Celsius all the year
