Love how you are so truthful about your class. I've been teaching Prek age for like 19 years and yes you do get sick of them acting a certain way. Even though each year is different, to me, it seems after Christmas they change for the worse every year. Haha. Great job and love the crafts and ideas
I totally relate to this! I teach prek and i have a couple students in my class who are very disrespectful to their peers and to me and my aide. I just always try to hold them accountable by telling them right after it happens that their response isn’t appropriate and they wouldn’t like it if they were being treated the way they’re treating others. I sometimes separate the child if they’re being really rude to their friends after a while of them ignoring warnings, i have them sit with me and do a puzzle, play with a stress ball or do a writing sheet. I always keep their parents in the loop too so they know what’s going on and hopefully can speak to them at home. Kids can surprise you with how mean they can be sometimes, you seem like a great teacher though you’re kids are lucky to have you! Love your videos 🤍
Ohhh I feel this vlog sooo much! When your student was like your being dramatic that's not gonna happen hahahahaha that's been me on the constant with my kiddos omg! I'm so tired! Lol. It has been such a rough week! But yes just pushing through I know it will get better. We will get the feel for it! I'm a TK teacher and first year and I'm struggling! We have CONSTANT class discussions and community circles about respect. They are still in the egocentric stage of development so it’s not as natural for some of them to think about others. Also, if it’s enough students not making good choices, sometimes the whole class has to lose a privilege and that helps them realize how their actions affect others!
Honestly? Kids who don't listen to instructions or don't follow the rules playing a game, don't get to play the game. I will sit them down instead and prepare a sheet, on which they get to practice everything, we would practice playing. I communicate that to the kids very clearly and am very strict about it - especially in the beginning of the school year. They usually will try that once or twice, but when they see, that you really mean it, it's normally no problem anymore for me. I don't like punishing students for behavior. Instead I use consequences. You can't enjoy your break playing with others, because you will hit them? You will spend your break sitting down then, so the others are safe and you'll get another chance tomorrow. It's not you hit others so you won't get candy later or something like that. The consequence always has to do with the behavior they're showing. That really helps me and my students. Might not be the most fun, but honestly works wonders. By Christmas, my kids knew the rules so well, that I bearly ever lose my nerves now, even though there are still really though days. Lots of love to you from a 2nd year 1st grade Austrian teacher.
