My district had a program called BTAP(Beginning Teachers Academic Program. ) That was back in the 1990s. I think tge calk it something else now. It was 3-4 days. We were taught the mission and rules of the district . We had workshops that were grade level/content specific. They roll out new initiatives before they tell the veteran teachers. Did your school give you a mentor teacher, or at least a handbook to tell you who to contact for different scenarios? That's unconscionable. No wonder so many young people are foregoing the profession. In this day and age, you can reach out to other teachers on social media so that you won't feel alone. Bless you, dear for persevering through that. You may be able to help other new teachers. Make your test your testimony. Godspeed on your upcoming school year. 🙏🏾🫶🏾
I was wondering didn't your school teach any child development? That's how I was familiar with what was normal or not. If they didn’t, shame on them. One thing that I was so blessed with my school is that they didn't wait until the last year to expose us to schools/ classrooms. On DAY TWO of freshman year, we were in schools observing, helping, teaching. We had the first class on campus. Then we were told to meet the professor at a local school near the university. I feel that if teaching programs would let presevice teachers in schools earlier, it would be beneficial.
I am so sorry that you went through all that. I had a terrible first year, but I had 6 angels( teachers of various grades and a guidance counselor) that came and rescued me almost 2/3 of the year in. They were so helpful. Plus, two students were transferred out of my room. That helped. My 4th quarter was my best one. Other teachers had great 1st-3rd quarters, and then the kids go crazy( It happens every year.) Mine was the reverse. Plus, was not kind to me. The reason I was allowed to come back is one of my angels used to teach with her.( She knew her when.😅). By my second year, she was telling everyone what good teach I had become. Each year is different.
Girl are you explaining my year right now?! This was/is my first year and I am in 1st grade. It was SOOO hard. So much physical violence!! I feel like such a failure. I am going to a new school next year, but I was constantly hit, kicked, my hair was pulled, I was choked. My kids hurt each other so much. It is draining and sooo sad.
Hi, am new to your channel. Love the gumball machine. I have a question, do students buy the toys in it? My school doesn’t allow for us to take money from the kids. Does your school allow it?
I use it as a reward option for students. If they fill up their positive behavior buckets then they can choose an option on our choice board. If they choose the gumball machine then they can grab a quarter I have set aside for it. Hope that helps!
Thank you for input , covid was tough for a lot of us. Glad you were able to persevere through it all. how was the praxis ? how does the process work ? What was your passing score ?
I do something similar for my Kinders, but I rotate the boxes in their mailboxes (#1-30), so that no child has the same task each day. It ensures each child will use at least 20-25 of the boxes per month. I just wish I had those boxes. I will look out for them this year at Target or look around to see if I can find better ones than I currently have.
Yes! I absolutely loved these last year and made the morning run so much smoother 😁 For the most part, kids kept them pretty organized through the year minus a few pieces here and there that would be left on the floor. Hope that helps!
Why not just ask admin for a purchase order? I know many of you will laugh but I think there is more money than we think for classroom materials. The more teachers spend, the less school districts purchase. Please ask!
Great ideas. Would you say having one for each kid worked ideally? OR Could you see having morning choice bins for 2-3 kids per 1 bin? I have seen it done many ways, such as each kid gets their own bin, 1 bin per 2-3 kids and once there are 3 kids at that bin- that bin station is full, or 1 bin per table (5 kids per table). I am implementing bins this year and am trying to figure out what way I want to do it. I have also seen morning bins done MWF and paper morning work or handwriting practice is done on the other days.. So many options. What are your recommendations?
I absolutely love how organized you are! Please make sure to cover your book shelves with some type of curtain so your students won't be distracted by all there is to look at. Less is more when is comes to overstimulating young brains.
Ahhh!!!! What’s the name of the borders you used for your whiteboard!?!? It looks sooooo good I wanna do it! My theme this year is brown and white minimalist 😊
I totally forget where I got them from BUT I’ve found some of them plus a bunch of other super cute borders from school girl style online! Hope that helps!
