1976, yeah FJ45's and G60 Patrols! My first time in then then. Crash gearbox, no power steering, no A/C, no power brakes, no hand brake, vapourising petrol engines, rag tyres 750x16, but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!

Awesome video. Great choice of music and editing is superb. I found Zeka spur track to be slow and boring when I drove it. We went around Wonongatta and did humffray track then Wombat spur but next time would to drive via Wonnangatta then Herne Spur.

Yeah, it’s wasn’t the most exciting track. But the quickest and easiest way in to troopy gathering I was heading to. The focus was more on the drive out for me as I had a full day to get home. I’m still rather new to the VHC, so slowly finding my feet. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Not all Patrol owners use 35s or larger. I've been cruising the High Country for over 40 years and the largest tyre I've ever used is 32". That's all that I have on my Patrol now. Much the same applies to my travelling buddies, our vehicles are our daily drivers and fully street legal. That said, we avoid the tracks where the bush pigs go for their daily dose of mud and vehicle destruction. Multi-day cruises in the High Country are far more relaxing and enjoyable.
@aguyandhistroopy
@aguyandhistroopy 2 года назад
Yeah… I know you aren’t all the same. I run 33’s, but I’m like you guys, just like cruising around. Be a lot easier if they weren’t running 37’s etc, cutting the tracks up, be able to ge to a lot more places. In saying that… I have a lot of mates in patrols running 33’s and under. 👍🏻
@AustralianImage
@AustralianImage 2 года назад
@@aguyandhistroopy I well remember the days back in the early 80s when a 31" tyre was considered huge and a 33" cost more than many could afford. The tracks back then required skill and not brute force like they do now with the massive wheel ruts dug into so many tracks. And many complain that tracks get closed. That's often the reason. Thankfully, the further out you go, the more normality you find.

@AustralianImage

@@aguyandhistroopy You grew up right at the base of the High Country. I lived in Sale for a while and hit the tracks every weekend, and I've lost count of the number of times we've gone through Bairnsdale to do our trips. This virus has killed a lot of opportunities and so trips have been few and far between in the last couple of years, but looking forward to getting out once more. It's always bedlam during the school holidays, so we tend to stay away until school resumes, mainly because finding camp spots get so hard. I'll keep an eye out for your Troopy should we come across each other on the tracks. If you see a white Patrol and white Jeep Rubicon on the tracks, both more or less bog standard and driven by two old farts, it's most likely me and my mate.

Nice video. Fantastic country. How would you compare herene spur track to blue rag range track?
@aguyandhistroopy
@aguyandhistroopy Год назад
2 totally different tracks in my opinion but it’s been a while since I’ve done Herne Spur. Blue Rag isn’t that challenging, 1/2 hour and your at the trig. But it’s iconic, views to die for. Herne Spur is a trip in itself, through Wonnangatta, river crossings which can be tricky if a bit of water there, good climbs, but a few different lines to choose from, and then you have to get of the area which can be challenging also.
@MRWOOM109R
@MRWOOM109R Год назад
@A Guy and his Troopy thanks for your reply. One last question though... don't want to bug you... how would Herne spur track be do you think in early November as the tracks first open. Doing it in a Ranger, lifted, A/T tyres, full front, rear and brush bars?
@aguyandhistroopy
@aguyandhistroopy Год назад
@@MRWOOM109R all good mate, it’s a hard one to answer. I’d say you’d be fine, but it’s all about the weather leading up to the opening, and make sure you carry a Chainsaw and it’s serviced and sharp, as you will most likely be using it, and a winch would be handy.
