If the guy on the right shaves showers and wears the right swag he might be able to get a job at one of the obsolete magazines like Motor Trend or hot rod.
I am surprised that the Weiand with the extra plenum capacity in the upper plane did not show more performance than it did, especially on the top end. I mean a balanced set of plenums on a dual plane intake manifold is bound to help regarding cylinder to cylinder distribution... @ least one would think.
Very Good test! I run the Air Strike on my 383 stroker, and wouldnt change it for the edelbrock! I have had numerous Eddy products and were dissapointed with them, your paying for the name. This intake is a proven performer, I am not saying its bad by any means, its great. BUT its also MUCH higher priced than the Weiand! So do you want to pay an extra 80 dollars for the corporate edelbrock name? Just some food for thought! The weiand works great!
Yes! That would be very infomative. And try them at both ends, near stock and close to full race. This 360 was a little over the middle of street/strip.
The original Torker made more power than the Torker 2, I've seen it tested on a dyno against a RPM, the original Torker made almost as much HP, but the RPM made alot more TQ across the board. The Torker 2 was redesigned to be more street friendly, but it was a turd that wasent good anywhere. Probably the worst singleplane ever made, the old street master was a piece of shit too. Torkers and Tarantulas were actually good intakes.
I'm not even going to watch the video but anybody who knows anything about a Performance Engine knows that engines can be very particular about Parts especially induction parts you can build two engines identical and one might like an Edelbrock intake and the other one might like Holly intake or perhaps a wiend intake, etc. The only way to know for sure is to test them all
Where would I find a Edelbrack intake ? I have. Winter's Aluminum Oldsmobile 442. W-30 intake as well as a Edelbrock Torker but never heard of Edelbrack good video though.
It does appear that the total timing was changed. However, It could also be that they installed the distributor off from where it was originally and then retimed it hence the new position. It is possible that they didn't change the timing and the position is different as well.
This is the stuff we need to know! For every application, every V8, straight 6, V 6 and four banger out there! And not just Chevy either. All the good motors need to be included!
Years ago i had a Weiand Stealth on a small block chevy 355 and it made power to 7000 rpm...worked great with a Holley 750DP carb! Edelbroch wasn't as popular back in the 90's as it is today, it was mass produced and quality just wasn't up to par, they may be better now but not sure...
@@dennisrobinson8008 the Carter carbs were kind of nice too, the metering rods came right out the top and you could change the size of the rods if you need more or less fuel, kind of like a motorcycle throttle needle you can change the depth for more air or fuel..
@@jeffthejinjer Sounds like those were probably even MORE tunable than a Holley, it's just that most of us didn't understand them... What's wild is how FLAT the AF curve is on a properly setup Holley, it's a very good fuel metering device.
Over the years I've found most intakes are machined crooked...roof on one side higher than head port roof and the other side too low,not to mention port matching size being way too small compared to head port size.Pretty well all intakes have ports to suit stock heads, so it stands to reason, pretty well all hp heads are noticeably larger than standard. Maybe I'm just too picky, but ANY so called dyno testing (especially comparisons) is 100% waste of time and fuel. Like Joe Sherman said, he would never bolt an intake on without port matching. I don't have a problem with testing an out of the box intake, but port alignment must be addressed accordingly, but it must be followed up with a test after port matching. Hp difference will be drastic on higher hp motors. I flow tested a 302 Air Gap intake on a head that flowed 270cfm a while back ....after port matching...knocked 70cfm off the flow. I'd hate to think how much flow it would've lost before port matching.I know it's a lot more work and cost to do back to back testing, because you really need to have 2 of each intakes so you can change from one to the other on the spot...and that's just on one motor...on this test they would of required even more ported intakes because of the different engine cylinder heads. Sorry to be so negative about the testing, but I want people realise it's not as simple as throwing an intake on a motor and going to Church on Sunday and praying that it's all going to work out perfectly. Doesn't work that way.
So basically, there is not enough difference to warrant any level of argument. I wonder how the engines would do with a more appropriately sized carburetor on it. The 700 is just too big. A 600 or at most, a 650 would have been more appropriate.
Eric Fixalot Not if the engine is going to be driven on the street. The 700 will just cause the vehicle to fall on it's face at a stoplight if the driver stomps the gas due to a lack of fuel velocity at idle.
Just get a Chevy or Mopar with a Performer manifold. It will solve all your issues. But at any rate, the Weiand manifold is like any other Weiand product these days. Way overpriced and of fairly low quality. I mean, who pays the same for a crappy cast Weiand blower and one would pay for a Blower Shop blower with billet rotors? Holley is milking the Weiand name for all it's worth.
@port nut Very true. It does not change the fact that the RPM Airgap is the best working dual plane manifold for performance applications currently. Edelbrock has a few things I like, most I don't care for, but those few things are also proven and stellar performers. The Edelbrock BBC 325 cc CNC oval heads are among the best street heads ever made. I put together a 498 ci short stroke BBC for a friend three years ago, and those heads with a ported RPM Airgap always amazes me. The engine made 637 hp @ 6200 rpm, but what was insane was the peak torque number of 597 @ 3700 rpm, and flat power curve to 6800. Not only was the engine rev happy and agile, it had heaps of low end torque and crisp response. A spread of 2500 rpm is rare and it makes for an engine that is so nice to drive. I've yet to see a head and intake combo that can do that.
Hotrod had manifold shoot outs for years. Buy the magazine subscription. Before the Internet, people expected/received payment for intelectual property. Or you can look at 10 year old Hot Rod Garage videos for free. I have a large library of HP Books. Dating back to when one book was $15. Now those books sell for $40. Internet go down? So what. Get my Holley carb book off my shelf.

don't buy the profession products intake ,they are junk .the ports are so badly cast ,they don,t match well to the head ports.I use the rear coolant ports on my air-gap ,the engine runs a little cooler ,and I had to richen up the idle a little .
