Ik like the HW77/97 more than any PCP. Simple, reliable, accurate, good looking and timeless. You need just a HW springer and a tin with pellets for whole day fun. Bottles, compressors, hoses, and all other tralala that comes with a PCP makes it a no go for me. Thanks for this video!

The last air rifle I owned was a BSA Meteor that had all the accuracy and power of a pea shooter in the hands of an asthmatic. I bought one of these last week and am delighted with it in spite of the fact that my hands aren't quite as steady as they were forty years ago. The only disappointment is that it doesn't come with a bayonet to compensate for my occasional wayward shot.

Hi mate. I have 2 HW 77k´s one in .177 and one in .22 . The .22 I bought used from a friend of mine and I ( my god friend and gunsmith in Germany) putt in a sub 12 coil and it is laser beam !! My .177 I already had it at FAC power( 17-18 fpe) from Germany too..... and it was 1000 % accurate at all distances up to 80 yds .... BUT it shoots way to hard!!! Fun just the first couple of shuts and after 20-30 shuts ,you know you feel it is to much ! The harmonics was not in the gun !!! So I ( me ) bought a sub 12 coil and putt some spacer between the spring and the piston ( no twang again !) and it is a day and night different and it is bang on 11.9 fpe !!!!!!!!!! + I did change the color of the stocks . The original beach stock is boring as hell!! I sanded those down and got " English Walnut " wax on these . 2 strokes !!! And it is hell god looking ! If you do not know it is a beach wood you mite think it is walnut !!! 💥😃 Next step are the cheek pieces . Original Sporter stock cheek rests are way to low with a scope . Even with medium Sports Match rings for a 50 mm scope !! Anyways, I will find a way to fix that problem !! Thanks for sharing these great videos ❗️Greetings from Norway !!

From one Richard to another :-) nice detailed and informative review with much attention to safe handling of an airgun. I have a HW77 in Forest Green laminate FAC in .22cal. Might want to mention that you have pointed several time to the SAFETY catch being located on the breech. I believe the more accurate location is: on top of the 'action' of the airgun. Otherwise very well done.

Please kind people,Is the HW 77 better than the HW 97 in any department? I want to get a new Weihrauch and my local dealer, has only the 77 and the 80 in stock at 22 cal. If you could only have 1 and could only use open sights, which one would you get? 95 or maybe the 80?
@airgunextra
@airgunextra 3 года назад
Hi. Thanks for watching and taking the time to ask a question. The HW97K and HW77 are very similar in terms of firing cycle and mechanics and will both put pellets through the same hole for as long as you can be bothered to pull the trigger. The HW97K has an adjustable shoulder pad and a silencer, and the option of a thumbhole stock. Personally I prefer the HW77K over the HW97K but would struggle to explain why, and sometimes it simply comes down to gut feel. The HW95 and HW80 are amongst the best break barrels available. I love the HW80 and still have the 1983 rifle I had as a kid. It is a bit of a lump though at around 4kg compared to the HW95 at 3.4 kg. Both are very reliable and very accurate. People will tell you that as a fixed barrel, the HW77 is potentially more accurate that the HW80/95, but to be honest the difference would probably only be obvious if you are an extremely good shot. I know its difficult, especially right now, but if you get the chance to see all three and put them in your shoulder I'm sure one will 'feel' more right than the other two. Good luck and please keep watching. Rich.

Excellent piece of kit!! You know, I have the same exact laminated 77 stock, only mine is a HW 97K... At first, I did a double take when I saw it at the gun shop, the gentleman from the shop (owner) mentioned that it was a Special Edition HW 97K (1.77 caliber) I fell head over heels for it , I ended up getting it of course. :-) Takes some getting use to, after shooting PCP's all day long, and getting spoiled, when you pick up the HW97K, and shoot it day after day, you really start to understand the rifle. And it IS super accurate!!!! That 77 stock is lovely, very comfortable indeed!! Great video, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Are you resting the rifle directly on a bag? If so, try resting your hand on the bag and then your rifle on your hand. Shooting a springer accurately is all about consistency - repeating the same position, grip, pressure that you hold the rifle. Key is to let the rifle recoil in the same way each time. That doesn't mean trying to hold it in a vice like grip. Just hold it firmly but in a relaxed way with the same amount of pressure each time...And keep practising! Its also worth bringing the range in to 15 / 20 metres to start with and then pushing it out...Let us know how you get on.
@davidparker1174
@davidparker1174 3 месяца назад
Hi, so you suggest resting your hand on the bag then gun in hand. I watch all your video's which are great by the way, and obviously that's your preferred choice. I watch so many people shooting in different ways and positions, just trying to get some consistency to my shooting. Unlike a few other comments I think your shooting is accurate and consistent.

@airgunextra
@airgunextra 2 года назад
Hi. The power will depend on the laws of the country in which you live. In the UK, where we are limited to 12 ft/lbs I'd suggest that .177 is better for slightly longer distances - out to 50 metres (although I wouldn't recommend hunting at more than 40 metres and only then if you are competent) - as the trajectory is much flatter than .22. In fact we did a video on different .177 / .22 trajectories at different distances. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lpJSHNhU5_M.html The HW77 is available at slightly higher power levels, however there comes a point where the stronger mechanical action will affect accuracy. I hope that helps.

Ill be watching many more of your RU-vid films. I tried the pcp world with an impact m3. Sooo much cost with all the compressors, bottles, etc. i also had a leak and had to send it back on warranty. Hi Sir, nice review and a beautiful rifle... got a question for you: it seems pretty loud from the video...talking about Muzzle Crack, not the mechanical "sound"...would you consider it backyard friendly?? Thank You
@airgunextra
@airgunextra Год назад
Hi Raffaele. Thanks very much. The muzzle crack is not too bad - the recording equipment always makes it sound louder than it is in reality. The mechanical noise is probably louder, and Weihrauchs do see to have a 'twang' straight out the box, but that can be easily dealt with by having it tuned. The bigger point to consider if shooting in the back yard is what you are going to be shooting at. The noise pellets make when impacting the target is often the noisiest factor. So, thinking about the right backstop is important. If you're going to shoot against a piece of wood or a concrete slab both will do a good job of stopping pellets but will make quite a bit of noise. Bags of sand or gardener's peat are much quieter, or covering wood/stone with old towels will be much quieter.

Cracking vid, loved it! Forgot how heavy the 77 is.....😂😂 I’ll have to get my batman to carry it for me.....😜 Loved the laminate stock and got one similar, with just enough discount to allow Welsh Willy to tune it up for me and not cost much more in pennies! It does make me smile when you go on about the hw77.... it's too expensive. ..its too heavy... and very awkward to load....especially if you have large....or cold hands... l have an hw57 same sub 12ftib...under lever.....same rekord triger.....easy and quick to load......and extremely accurate with ....or with out a scope....it is truly a wonderful little rifle along with my other rifle the amazing hw 99 unbelievably accurate With open sights......and above all they are very reasonably priced.

Hi Fred. I'm glad we could put a smile on your face. You're right that the HW57 is a great rifle. I wrote in a feature for Airgun Shooter recently that it doesn't get the recognition it deserves and is unfairly overshadowed by Weihrauch's other two underlevers. But I don't agree the HW77K is too heavy and too awkward to load etc. I also don't think it is too expensive given comparison to other top of the range springers. The HW57 is a great rifle. But so too is the HW77K.

Great review Richard, I've just purchased the same gun as yours but with the weihrauch scope. I'm not overly keen on the safety button. I had my fingerless gloves on I'm left-handed cock the gun with my right I was finding that sometimes my gloves was stopping the gun from going into safe mode if my hand was just nearly touching the safety button without being aware of it at first The cocking of the gun doesn't seem strong enough to push thr safety button out if there's obstruction like part of my gloves. So you have to be more aware of it. I have a lot of guns and this is the only one to put it back in safe mode you have to re-cock the gun. What's your thoughts on it ? Thanks Brian
@airgunextra
@airgunextra 2 года назад
Thanks Brian. I must admit, I've not experienced the issue you describe in any of the Weihrauch springers I've owned or tested. But I've never cocked them left-handed of course! The re-cocking process you describe is the same on most other Weihrauch springers. I'm in two minds - on the one hand I like to be able to de-cock the rifle. On the other, the lack of an anti-bear trap mechanism is not optimal and de-cocking could result in a pellet being left in the breech of an uncocked rifle. Having said that, I love my HW77s, my HW80 and HW35 and really wouldn't be without them. Enjoy your new rifle Brian and I hope you get the knack of cocking it cack-handed soon!

I am a lifelong user of spring powered air rifles. I tried PCPs and they are OK. However, when I feel like shooting, I select a Weihrauch, Walther, or a Diana underlever. No pumps, compressors, or gauges, just cock the rifle, aim, and fire. Simplicity and reliability rule with springers.
@airgunextra
@airgunextra 3 года назад
A good springer is certainly a joy to shoot, and a challenge to shoot well as well. That said, I am consistently more accurate with a PCP, as I suspect most people are, so when it comes to pest control I find myself using a PCP every time. Thanks for watching.

Hi John. Yes, I'll plan to do that. I believe the main differences are that the 97 has an adjustable butt. Unlike the 77 it does not come with open sights. There are also a few different options with the 97, including thumbhole stocks. No doubt I'm forgetting a few, but I think those are the main difference. The only difference between HW77 an HW97 is the barrel. HW77K has 370 mm (470 mm for HW77) long barrel with the front socket where open sights can be mounted. HW97 has a bit shorter barrel (300 mm I think) extended by a compensator (it's not a silencer, but a compensator optimizing a gas output from the barrel). You cannot mount open sights to HW97 barrel. Everything else is the same incl. types of stock. E.g. you can have HW77 with "KT" thumbhole stock, nickel plated metal parts etc., and all parts of these two guns are interchangeable. Note: I am a satisified user of HW77K (.177, 16J) with a standard stock.

@airgunextra
@airgunextra 3 года назад
Hi Timothy. Thanks very much, and thanks for watching. You're going to get me into a lot of trouble answering this one as plenty of people love their BSAs and would defend them to their last breath! I think though its fair to say that generally speaking, most people accept that rifles from Weihrauch are better performers. The Rekord trigger in particular is a class above that of the BSA range, and just about everything else. That's not to say that BSAs can't be shot accurately because they can, but if you're looking for a top of the range springer, I'd suggest trying a Weihrauch first before plonking your money down on a BSA.
