Great video as always Steve, I'm sure it's not your first installation, but nothing better than starting the day early and improving the lives who request our work! 👍☝
Nice job Steve! We need more guys like you around here! Honest, reliable, dependable, knowledgeable and fair! Have a good week. From Northwestern Vermont
Hi Steve from England, i'm on my second wall hung boiler, the first one was junk after only 10 years, i personally hate them but we don't have any other choice except going full electric heating which is very expensive.
I like to purge into a bucket. So when it fills up with water i can watch the air escape in the form of bubbles. Lets you know when you get all the air out. Once in awhile I'll sit by the boiler watch the pressure gauge and pinch the hose to build up pressure and let it go before hitting 30psi. Gets all the hard to get air pockets out.
New sure is nice! Great work. 11:18 "Flux pulls in the solder" I thought the flux spreads the heat, capillary action pulls in the solder (being a narrow gap between the pipe and fitting). 10:15 great shot of capillary action.
I have a cgi series 1 and circular and water feed is on return side like your install . Bought a cgi series 3 and is showing circulator and water feed valve on supply side ! Does it matter
Yes it is but not all people see it that way ! Propress and push together fittings seems to be the only way they know! This generation is pushing the soldering joints away ! They say it takes to long to solder up joints lol👻🤣🤣🤣
11 ppm more and a new boiler would have to be ordered?🤣😅🤣 Thanks again for the videos! 🍺🍺🍺🥃🥃🏌🏻♀️🎯 Stay safe. Retired (werk'n)keyboard super tech. Wear your safety glasses!
Thanks for this video.. I'm getting labor quotes of over 3 to $4000 to install one.. I just cant afford that. Think I can do it myself now, may take a while but to save thousands I have lots of time
Nice install, I was working on a cig 4 today, about 11 years old with the old aquastat and igniter board rather then the digital display. Gotta ask though, do you not believe in manometers or something? Grab a digital one and measure your manifold pressure adjustments.
really nice looking install. sleep deep at night by sweating that copper instead of pro pressing it. makes sense to have the circulator pumping 125 degree water instead of 180? lasts longer. intersting how 40 ppm CO on a new boiler is cool but an old one it’s, “ well, she’s barely passing time for new!” that’s where art and science meet and in the doctors office
For years now, I have been using the emergency switch to turn on the gas powered boiler that runs to my cast iron radiators for heat. After the third time being charged for a thermocoupler replacement at close to $500 in as many years, I have trust issues. The boiler is now approaching 20 yrs, so, how much can expect to spend to replace, or fix by a reputable contractor? Parts and labor in total? What may be causing the issue, or should I replace? Have not found anyone to help me, so maybe a stranger on the internet will. At least I have heat....only an issue in the dead of winter when I wake up cold to pee, since I can't afford to travel and worry about pipes freezing anyway.
Steve…..can you please tell me what company makes that stainless steel vent pipes ….Z-flex? ……i have the same boiler and the previous owner installed it with single walled galvanized vent pipe and it’s kind of sketchy ….I would love to replace it with that stainless steel piping instead
Duravent is your best option. FYI single wall galvanized pipe was an approved venting method per most manufacturers when these boilers first came out provided the joints were sealed with high temp RTV. These are CAT III gas - positive pressure non-condensing.
Nice install but the exhaust vent can’t be that close to the a/c condenser unit, it’s a code violation. The idea behind that is if there is a malfunction and raw gas comes out of the vent it can be ignited by a spark from the contactor in the condenser unit. Sounds far fetched but that’s the code 🤷♂️
Excellent job Steve! I assume that the problem with "push away" is the pump is pumping much hotter water than what's coming back which lends to cavitation and pump vane degradation? Obviously the cavitation would be microscopic or the noise would give it away. Another way to look at your "problem people" is that when you are good you make it look so easy that anyone could do what you are doing. The curse of a craftsman, make it look so easy that people think they can do the job, the problem is people start giving you ideas because they think they are at your level. The solution - 95% of all suggestions are bad ideas, 5% being good ideas, while 1% to 2% are both good ideas and are actionable. Your curse is sorting out the ideas, but getting 1% or 2% of good ideas that can be easily added to your quiver for almost free is a good problem to have.
she goes on pee pads if she needs to go .i only leave her home is i am going to be one one job all day.... no sense in staying in the truck all day alone ..
