Our very own Rikkaku the Sai-Krowe got to meet Weird Al Yankovic at Greater Austin Comic Con in Austin, Texas. We were curious if there was a Retro Game that the Wizard of Weird had a fondness for and Rikk was able to deliver the goods.

Shout out to the (very tiny) Wolfenstein 3D speedrunning community! I hope to bring it to Games Done Quick at some point because it's never been played there (only Spear of Destiny back in 2015, but that's not the OG)

That game is absolutely retro as it's 32 years old. Retro is any game system that's at least 2 generations old and doesn't have major releases still put out for it. So for example, when PS5 came out, PS3 was officially retro.

@@jessragan6714 I was sad there was no fanfare during the 30th anniversary in 2022, despite being the reason Doom exists at all. It's alright, I'm waiting for the source port called ReflectionHLE to have proper support for modern control schemes. It's aiming to be for Wolfenstein 3D what Chocolate Doom is for Doom (as close to 100% faithful to the original DOS release as possible but runs on modern hardware).

I knew he would pick something good but if he’d said Mario 3 or something else trite it would have been mildly disappointing. Wolf3D is not only an excellent choice, but it’s the opposite of trite. I remember Weird Al’s music videos around that same era and they were just as good as non-parodies. His Crash Test Dummies cover sounds just as good and he performs it convincingly but makes it intentionally funny. I salute him with a hot dog inside of a Twinkie smothered in canned cheese.
