Everyone like this, ITS YOUR BRAKE DUST SHIELD, SEARCH IT UP IT SOUNDS LIKE TIN, IT BENDS AND TOUCHED THE ROTOR AND CREATES THRIS SOUND BEND IT BACK WITH A SCREW DRIVE AND YOUR FINE. ITS THE PART RIGHT BEHIND THE ROTOR
My 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS did this as well a month ago. The faster i went the louder the noise got. Replaced the left and right strut & coil spring (purchased the whole assembly from O'Reilly's)along with replacing the left and right steering knuckle (purchased the whole assembly from Amazon ). My dad and cousin put the parts on so I saved a ton of money labor wise but with purchasing the parts I spent around $770 so not bad at all compared to going to the dealership who quoted me a few thousands for parts, labor, and taxes. My car hasn't growled or made a scrubbing noise sense! Hopefully passing this info along will help someone else!!
Thank you! I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and my car is doing this now. Im nervous. Im at Firestone Auto to diagnose. Ill buy all my parts from Rock Auto and have them shipped to me and i drive to Birmingham AL from Jackson MS to have some good cheap mechanics do all the work. They are affordable.
@@yolandas.6193 I’m not far from Birmingham I’m in Montgomery! After reading the comments and not getting much help I was sure to post my issue & results I’m glad my comment was useful!
If the noise only happen when you press gas pendal then its probably your differential box, if the noise seem to happen in some speed regardless press gas pendal or not it highly likely ball bearing
I have a similar metal on metal sound but it’s normally when I hit a bump or pull into a driveway. It can happen when I start breaking and stop when I let go of the break but my breaks were inspected and they said it’s fine. They also said my front breaks have 40% pad left. They said it was the exhaust flex pipe that’s loose
Same. 2013 Highlander, only when I accelerate. Yesterday was outside the car and it was much louder. Now today I have appt to take it to my mechanic and it won’t start. I love this car - sad day. 😩
Its not bad wheel barrings, they would scrape constantly. It might not be your breaks either because thats not whats causing mine. Im having this issue in my 2010 ford focus SEL in the front driver side area only when i accelerate. My mechanic couldnt find the issue and just told me to keep driving but IF it starts getting worse then i should bring it back in immediately 😅 so thats my solution to all of y'all. He also said it might be the transmission which is not fun but if you notice a difference in shifting or accelerating, take it straight to the mechanic before it gets worse and you end up on the side of the road! Luckily ive been driving for a little over a week and still no difference. Ill try and post updates if i remember 👍
I posted above but my 2012 Hyundai Elantra was the same but in my front passenger side only when i accelerated. Replaced the left and right strut & coil spring (purchased the whole assembly from O'Reilly's)along with replacing the left and right steering knuckle (purchased the whole assembly from Amazon ) and my car hasn't made that growl since. We have different vehicles but maybe worth a look on your car!
What if I'm only hearing a squeaking sound if I'm accelerating? From my observation, I hear this around 1300-1500 rpm. My tensioner bearing is brand new and I have a belt that I bought a year ago.
I have a 2016 AWD dodge journey, and I’ve had it for 4 years. Dealership couldn’t figure it out. My grinding sound is also when I’m accelerating, or when it’s really cold or raining. Now the shop I have it at said it’s a bad PTU (front differential) they replaced it and the sound, sounds even worse now! The tech used a stethoscope tool and says it’s a bad pump in my transmission. But watching all these videos who knows it could be a bad u-joint, cv axle, or torque converter. I’ll update y’all once my transmission is replaced! 😅
I found the issue & fixed it today. So after further inspection on the differential a few things were noticed. The hardware holding the driveshaft to the front of the dif were not fastened tightly. Also the nut that holds on the pinion was loose. The assembly could be shook by hand in all angles. It leaked fluid from the seal too. Because I didn’t want to rebuild it I just hit the yard w a buddy and vin matched a rear end and swapped it. The truck drives so nice. No rubbing sound fixed. But I’d assume the differential pinion bearing is going out when this sound occurs
Hello! Could you help me please---front AXLE? Sounds like right TIRE is RUBBING/GRINDING soon as I pull off and the TRACTION light is on…I also hear like clanking noise or something….
@@Greeno84549 not sure if it's related, but my car started making the same noise due to the control arm bolt that was loose. Doesn't hurt to check and tighten
i figured out my noise was a bad wheel bearing, when i took some of the weight off of the bad side by swaying the car it made less noise, and when i reached certian speeds it would get worse and louder or even the opposite
Got a 1987 Chevrolet Sprint metro, just did now bearing replacement on the passenger side I'm almost certain that my dust plate for the rotor is bent making a noise too, but I have a horrible "chchzchchchzchczh" noise when I'm not giving it any gas... not on the brakes either so idk what happened
If your losing acceleration it's a driveshaft issue at the trans if your not losing acceleration it could be a bearing issue on the crank shaft if it's coming from the back your rear end gears are slipping
Mine makes this sound when I accelerate 1st and 2nd gear. If I do a slow acceleration or start in 3rd gear, no noise. At first I was thinking brakes, but idk. I just had my front pads changed and rotors turned. Hope to God it's not what I think it is.
Mine was a similar sound. Odyssey. Had both cv joints and bushings replaced. Also new power steering pump. Sound is gone so far. Now which one fixed the sound, I don’t really know.
This happend to my honda pilot one day to an other when I ran over a big branch in the middle of the road. Happens when I accelerate from 0-30 or when I'm about to get in the freeway. Then stops when in cruise control
I'm convinced it's my fuel injector behind my passenger wheel 😅 but I have no idea. Yesterday, I tool mine to 50mph and it grinded all loud at that speed. Worse than the little 30mph.. And It only happens when I push the gas. When I let off, it stops immediately
My subaru is making the same noise, I bought new rotors, calipers, pads, wheel bearing, and axels! Still hear that same noise! If it's the stanking dust cover, ima be hella pissed!
My 2001 Chevy Tahoe is make similar noise and changes between when I turn left or right, and at one time it resisted against me trying to accelerate and then it pop and was fine for a bit
@@steendeen516 so this might save a lot of you guys money, the ACTUAL PROBLEM was my E-Brake rusted out and the springs broke off so the scraping and rattling was the pieces of the brake inside of your tire
I have 2017 Sierra it’s doing the same thing it kinda makes a grinding noise when it shifting then hesitates when I get to 5th gear it will kinda jerk. If it’s cold it’s worse
Whoever’s video this is - I DONT KNOW WHAT YEAR YOUR CHEVY SILVERADO HIGH COUNTRY IS BUT OBVIOUSLY SINCE I CAN TELL WHAT TRUCK YOU HAVE BY THE SMALL VIDEO PLAYED FOR US THEN YOU KNOW IK SPEAKING TRUTH. I had until recently a 2014 Chevy Silverado high country 5.3L … that noise your getting sadly is the transmission/ transfer case or gear box … I had to replace mine completely at only 105k! Sucks ass for such a expensive truck to replace a major part that young … I LOVED that truck but to be honest it was a shit box … I replaced the transmission , and multiple other components before 100k… and at the end I replaced all 4 tires cause horrible tread ware as it looked like chunks were getting cut out everywhere randomly and this happened within 6 months on $1400 tires … so I brought them in and they balanced , did all sorts of tests and gave me a alignment and made sure a new set of $1400 tires would be good to go … we’ll again within 4-6 months my tires were starting to do that same thing on the front two… I was pissed and they litterally said they don’t know … and refused to warranty them … I was gonna throw a punch I swear … so the truck at least 2014 had problems
Did you also have brake dust all over your front rims? I have changed both of my wheel hubs on the front, brakes seem to be fine but my 2000 chevy tahoe, 5.3 still makes this noise constantly and my front tires are just going bald in no time! Plus, both front wheels are coated in brake dust! Is this my transfer case, gear box or rear differential or what? I don't understand how it chews through my tires and creates so much damn brake dust! Sounds like I used gravel in my hubs instead of ball bearings!
So that noise what exactly was it then? I just had my trans rebuilt, new TC, programmed but I have this noise occasionally when accelerating…. All brand new suspension, tires, lines, bolts ons, pumps and proper maintenance since ownership and prior….. baffled.
I have this exact problem. I hear this noise when I brake though and decelerate. I got it check out and the brake pads were fine same with the discs and rotors. However, they were a bit rusty. I don’t know what the problem is.
@@daisydoo7751 I had them check my car again and the problem was that the brake pads were metal to metal and that the rotors were grinding with the brakes pads.
1997 Honda Accord. My car is making a similar noise, like a metal scraping sound. It happens when I take it out of park. Even idling it is persistent and incredibly loud. Anyone in a similar boat? It feels fine driving, but it scares me
It appeared it wasn't the catalytic converter or the transmission. Ford gave it back and said they wouldn't replicate the sound as it doesnt always do it but i took it to a shop to get it alligned and the sound went away.@@aznamit666
Took my car in yesterday with the same noise. It didn’t make the noise when the mechanic test drove it. They changed the brake, $380. Had to listen to the same rubbing all the way home 🙁
If anyone is wondering... It's a failing transmission. Took it for a second opinion and they figured it out. The noise didn't kick on all the time only after a long hard drive it would get louder sounding like front left side.
This happened to my 2010 impala yesterday after work. I was driving in the back and a drunk customer came outside and saw I was having problems with my car. He works on cars and said that usually happens when you accelerate and the faster you go the less of a sound it makes. He said it could be the crank shaft cover being dented from a pothole. You can hammer out the cover and the noise will stop. So I just got under my car and gave everything a good wipe down around that area and the noise stopped for me.
@@ashtondutcher3489 no I'm saying that I'm a mechanic and your crankshaft is inside the engine. So there must have been a misunderstanding. Maybe your thinking of the drive shaft?
@@lilbot3807 you should drain all the gear oil, and then take off the differential cover. If barely any or no gear oil came out during the drain then it might have been running too dry, and that causes a worn down/shaved differential. You don’t want any play on the gears inside the differential or the gears won’t have the proper torque and it’ll start making grinding/scraping noises. I just had to replace my rear axle/differential on my ranger because of that.
I have the same noise in my F350. Only happens during acceleration. If I let off the gas, the noise stops. Seems to happen most at the top of each gear. Right before shifting (automatic transmission).
@@sachithpasindu9461 Not yet. I jacked my truck up and couldn't repeat the issue with the wheels spinning in air. It only makes the noise under load/when driving. I am going to try changing the transmission fluid later today since mine was a little low. Just waiting for the Amazon delivery.
Literally same sound in my car , and it seems to happen more when I turn or tilt steering towards left. And seems to go away when turning right . So damn confusing, but it sounds different from a bad wheel bearing which was my initial thought
Same exact issue and sound in mine! Only when turning left and it only happens when I hit the gas. The grinding is horrific in the mornings when my car is cold
Definitely a bad wheel bearing if the noise disappeared when you were turning. Buy a cheap wheel bearing on rock auto and if your wrong it's only 40 or 50 bucks
@Dustin Maples take into consideration you are taking weight off the left side and putting more weight on the right side so your problem is likely something on the right side. I had that once for me it was a rear axle shaft.
My 2014 Chevrolet High Country 4x4 6.2 engine does the exact same thing. Any luck finding the issue? Transmission was swapped, transfer case was swapped, front wheel bearings were also swapped out. 😢 and noise is still there.
I have a 2016 dodge journey sxt, the noise that I would try and explain it sounding like is a “grungy grind/rub” sound on acceleration only. It goes away after reaching a certain speed! Anyone have any suggestion on what this could be?
I have this issue with my Ford Explorer 2015, all engine mounts changed but the noise is still there. I worry for my kids safety. Anyone knows what it could be please let me know
Same for my 2010 Ford Flex limited . It also shakes a bit around 65mph and up so it might be my driveshaft or axel thingy as well , don’t know let me know if anybody still reading these comments in pre 2024 😂
Did anyone find out? My car is having same issue when trying to accelarate from low speed below 50kmh. When that happens i need to let go off the throttle 2 seconds to make it go away
Idk if your asking me or original poster. But mine was the torque converter. At least that’s what dealer said. After a month and half it’s finally going in Friday to get fixed. So we shall see if it’s truly that. I think it is though as it shutters as well under low speed almost like being on a gravel road.
@@joshualemay3738 we ended up trading it in haha, wanted to trade it before anybody found out what was wrong with it, i didn’t even want to deal with all of that. we traded ours for a 2018 jeep laredo, lifted and tinted aftermarket wheels and tires, gas mileage isn’t as good but it’s an awesome ride.
@maverickcote7626 - ever get this diagnosed? I have a 2014 6.2L Sierra that has the exact same noise. 5 different shops and different diagnoses from all, with most recent being torque converter. I don’t buy that as I’ve had the issue now for about SIX years!! Drives fine, just that incessant grinding randomly drives me insane. Love to hear if you figured it out.
It is most likely a bad center carrier bearing (if 4 wheel drive) which is usually caused by bad/ locking U joints on the drive shaft. Try to determine if sound is close to the transfer case or the rear differential.
@@msims496 its weird if the noise starts it will continue till I let off the gas or give it a little more and after I do that I can go back to the same speed that the noise started and then the noise won’t start back right away and then sometimes it won’t make it the whole day
Idk if y’all figured it out yet or not but mine f150 ecoboost was doing it and it turned out to be the 4x4 actuators we’re worn out and the teeth were slipping on them and it don’t have to be in 4x4 to hear them. If they are busted they can’t hold the air in them to keep them locked out
