It’s because you’re driving the chain with the rear wheel rather than the engine sprocket pulling the chain. When the engine is in gear and driving it tensions the top of the chain and clears the plastic guard or guide. The only time you’ll get this noise when riding is when free wheeling. You could probably do with tightening the chain a bit but check your manual for how to tension whether on the stand or on the ground etc.
Try turning the wheel the correct direction. That sound could very well be the plastic slider on the swingarm. If the sound is present when turning the correct way check the sprocket alignment. 👍
I think that you make a turn reverse. If you turn the wheel forward. It will gone away. Because upper chain between front and rear sprocket is touching upper guide of chain between turn by your hand. The reason why is doing that is because of slack between front and rear sprocket. In this case lower part of chain will be tight at the same time. But if you tune the wheel make forward, it will tight upper chain. It is just normal and not to worry. to check and see an area of upper chain guide above the footstep.
Chain is a bit too tight. The clicking is the sprocket teeth as they “pop” out of the chain links. You’ll notice a change in pitch if you roll the wheel one direction then the other.
Found a solution? I have same problem/sprocket whirring/buzzing noise. I changed the front sprocket, tightened chain within spec, aligned rear wheel, cleaned/lubed the chain....still having this noise. No performance issues but incredibly annoying, can hear at all speeds on motorcycle.
I washed my bike for first time in couple months at a self service car wash and after driving home while walking the bike into garage in neutral turned off it was making same noise. Was thinking maybe i washed off some grease or lube with pressure washer and the soap they offer there? I've never heard this before ride my bike decently often and i have to ALWAYS get off to open my garage door manually so i always end up walking my bike turned off in neutral into garage space and never heard this, also i keep walking back and forth over and over and noticed the noise only happens going forward for most part Any ideas what happened?
i have the exact same issue.Before i didnt know if i had the noise before but today when i cleaned lubed and tighten my chain i noticed it.I posted a video to show and see if anybody could help.I read on a forum that it could be the bearings from inside and if it was its gonna cost me an arm and a leg.I hope thats not the problem for me but i just wonder if its safe for me to ride in the mean time.Did you ever get the problem to go away?thank you for your time.
Toto Phandhamaly it’s just the chain rubbing against that black piece next to the sprocket. When you sit on the bike it lowers and the chain doesn’t rub against it
I’m having this SAME exact issue and it’s causing a lot of problems with my bike malfunctioning. I’ve been trying to trouble shoot this issue for very long and I believe it’s the bearing…. It makes my clutch fall apart while I ride and I get stranded on the road. It’s a big issue
@@DeepakDRM I think it’s the sprocket bearing on the inside of the engine. I think it’s from running the chain too tight and eventually wears out the bearing, also wearing out everything else
@Funny_as_Duck just a quick one. Serviced my bike and lay it up for 8 months. Brought it out and it's making this sound. Very loud. Kxf. Anyways got it on stand running in gear rear wheel and sprockets spinning and you can hear it clearly. Switched off turned rear wheel by hand can still hear it. Removed chain. Spun front sprocket. NO sound. Fired it up run through all gears. NO sound. Put chain back on lots of sound 😂 it had a new chain but without the sprockets. Do you think that could be the issue? Needs new sprockets. They were fairly new but I snapped the chain so only changed that.
Wouldn't a stiff chain make noise only while making that part of the chain move? I'm having the same noise on my 2003 z1000. Cant figure it out. Going to play with alignment tomorrow.
Have the same. Its not the bearing. I took the chain off the front sprocket, and its not a wheel out of line, so it can be chain or sprocket. I have a second new sprocket at home, so i ll try to chainge.. if it not help, i have to change the chain.. :/ I mean its quite common problem this noise. Should by any statistics of chainbrand/type witch that make .
HEY!! I GOT IT SOLVED. You have to take out the front chain sprocket, flip it so your outer part turns inward and the inward faces you. Then fix the chain. Now you will not have the noise.
I had the same issue I fixed by getting a genuine new front sprocket as they come with an inner plastic ring moulded to the sprocket to reduce chain noise that's all it was no more noise fixed
@@donivpro9433 no... I am facing same problem.. I have changed front sprocket twice also tested the sprocket with different bike. Observations are: Noise coming only on my bike. I think I should change chain or drive shaft
@@commonman8370 its getting redused.... I ll clean chain with diesel and after that chain lube and open the front sprocket cover clean all mud and spray WD 40 in the small sproket to clean up.... Then the noise reduces
its the spore kit i have the same problem and nothing seems to solve the problem except losening the chain helps a lil bit the mechanic adviced me to change the whole chain set which will cost me 80$ and but i am amazed that i only have done 9000 kilometers ?!?!?!?!?
For me its about O-ring and non O-ring chain problem. O-ring chain always make this kind of noise after used for too long. I already use my motorcycle O-ring till 45 000 KM, 2 and half year. Now i use non O-ring chain and solve the noise problem. Btw difren between O-ring and non O-ring its the price and distance =D. if u always go far place i suggest O-ring. Just helping =)
Uhhhh that looks a bit loose dude. What I did is fabricated a ruler from cardboard from the ground to the top of the chain. There is a rule to have only about an inch to three quarters of play when you go up and down with the chain...I'll find you the link.

I just noticed it on my 2008 Hornet after adjusting the chain slack (50mm is not good). Its on 31mm now and this noise came up. I do have a tight link in the chain and a new chain is on the way. Other than that I tripple checked the alignment and its fine. Nothing feels wrong when riding either. Its back to being its smooth responsive self. I'm gonna roll with it for now, see what the mechanic says when it bring it in for a service and chain replacement.

This noise is very common if the wheel or the sprocket is turned in reverse direction. I'm sure that the noise vanishes if the wheel is turned in forward direction.
Shubham Dhanpal yes I know. Vehicle travels 99% in forward direction, this makes the sprockets wear in a specific pattern. But when they're turned freely in reverse direction it makes noticeable noise (like this) and it is natural. If you have a motorcycle try this to know more.
Part of the chain was "locked up" or stiff for whatever f**kin reason. Shop I trust said don't worry about it would just make some annoying noise but not hurt anything - just be prepared to swap chain out to ultimately fix it.
Yeah what is the conclusion ? I have the same problem too. Mine does that same exact noise! And it was not doing it before ! When i look closely to my rear wheel on stand put to gear 1, i see 1mm wobble side to side. 1-chain is well tensioned (between fact standards) 2-Setting nuts are symetically placed 3-no visual damage , or no damage history 4-well usage history, never wheelied or whatsoever 5-bike is fuckn brand new 2016 honda cbr 300, @12.000 km
@@bluestrayer Sweet baby jesus that put my mind at ease. I did notice a stiff link when running it on the paddock stand. Glad to see its just that bit making the noise. Well the chain is due for a replacement anyway and a new chain is on the way.
