I beleive the reason for the magic staff, and even the staff, was that they were available on release of Runescape classic. A staff was 15gp and a magic staff was 200gp. The element staffs were 1500. This was a significant difference, as coins were very hard to come by, thieving didn't even release for another year.
Some of us just trained mining to sell next upgrades of weapons to make money for things like staves. Pre grand exchange trading was a nightmare though. I used to have several shops on the forums.
I think the magic staff use to have a higher magic bonus than a regular staff but through a combat update, probably when they decided to start using the level tier system of balancing weapons, ended up having its stats changed to be the same as a regular staff
Using the OSRS Wiki as reference, the magic staff has +10 magic attack/defence and +10 crush bonus. A bog standard staff only had +4 magic attack/defence with similar crush. A staff of element has +10 magic attack/defence and +9 crush. No real benefit to magic staffs over elementsl unless you intend to melee with it.
20 years ago, the elemental staves were uncommon drops. Magical stick was the best choice. And yes back then people did melee using it, especially for the early day "Pures". Battleaxes were never preferred because they were deem inaccurate (which is also why dragon Battleaxes were an earlier release)
Also the magic staves were the best f2p staff in the old days until you obtained an elemental staff by a monster drop. A year after staves were released you could craft elemental staves with the introduction of elemental obelisks and battlestaves if you were a member only. Which profit wasn't that bad.
There are three Disk of Returning. There is also one given to you via the Gower Quest, which will let you teleport directly to the gower brother's. Useful for clue step.
The strange plant used to be a random event back when those were around. You could take the fruit (which was quite useful back then since run energy was a much bigger issue) but if you ignored it the plant would attack and iirc poison you. They were moved to Karamja when they removed randoms from the game
Like the content -- a few of these items are just old relics from RSC. Old boot never had a use (not sure if it could even be worn) and magic staff was the budget staff option sold by Zaff and was a decent 1 attack account melee option (better than the normal staff and elemental staves, but far inferior to poisoned rune spear)
The strange plant used to be part of Runescape's distractions that spawned at you. The weird antibot feature that interrupted you while skilling. The Evil Chicken, Sandwich Lady, Drunken Dwarf, Strange Fruit, and others that would hold you in a different place or attack you if you didn't respond to them.
@@exantiuse497 Don't recall there being a great deal more than 3 skilling randoms. Loads of generic ones like the box, plant, quiz and pinball looking one.
Hi Protoxx. I think this information will be useful for recording the existence of these useless items. Thanks for you unswerving devotion to duty and contributions to our community. I'll catch you at the next one. Peace.
If you try to summon a familiar or pet while on the Hefin Serenity post it will say Lady Hefin doesn't allow followers on her serenity posts, but if you summoned one then step on the post you can, and relogging or lobbying brings the pet on the post
Strange fruit use to be far more useful pre loadstone / 10+ transit systems/ 3 magic systems etc since you had to run and agility is/was a pain to train
magic staff is a carryover from the rs classic days. It was intended to be a step between a regular staff and an elemental staff. It gave some magic bonus so your spells could actually do some damage. But overall pretty useless these days. Another fun fact, you could only cast spells and shoot to initiate combat, then you went into melee. Sometimes if a creature was already in combat, your buddy could shoot the monster while you were in melee with it. This was viable when KBD was the strongest monster in the game.
PKing was the same way. There were PKing clans that would use the death dot strategy where everyone would stand on the same square so it only looked like a single person on the mini map. Then one person in full defensive gear would engage with the unwary victim while the rest of the clan blasted them with magic and range. You also couldn't run away from combat for the first 3 attacks. And every weapon had the exact same attack speed. Ah, the early days of RS ❤
This is incorrect. You can cast spells inside of melee combat in RSC. Ranged was the combat style that you could not perform while in melee (except with cannon or by others)
Before EOC it had better magic attack bonus than basic staff (the same as elemental staff actually) and better melee stats (better than elementals staffs even). It was meant as a low level upgrade before you obtained an elemental staff (back in classic, it was obsolete even in early RS2). EOC standardised the stats of all weapons of the same tier so the magic staff (or the regular staff for that matter) have no reason to exist as they have the same stats as elemental staffs but don't provide runes
I'm not sure with what but i'm sure my channel has a ton of content to help :) if not consider joining my discord to ask questions (Link in description)
I'm sure I'm not the only one here in my situation. I only really use RU-vid, comments aside on videos here, could we reach you in a more efficient manner with ideas? Email perhaps, I'm old fashioned.
I instant skip into about the 1 minute mark every time for Protoxx videos. The "sit back and enjoy" line every video is redundantly repetitive and get a bit ear grating when listening to multiple video's or reviewing a video like a boss video. I get its a "schtick" to the video, but man, use it every now and then, not every video.
