I regret that my alma mater, UC Santa Cruz, appears to be just as bad as Columbia University. As a moderate liberal, I was disgusted after the recent antisemitism incidents at universities to find out that the whole ethnic studies program at the University of California is antisemitic. The UC ethnic studies faculty council objected to referring to the October 7 attacks as terrorism and ask the UC Regent to not refer to the attack that way because doing so encourages Islamophobia. At the same time, they said nothing about antisemitism.

It’s like people forgot how this war started and all those Innocent people that died at the rave and that lived nearby and are still kept captive and experiencing horrible things. Also the history of the U.S. with Israel and that we are allies and should be, also the climate of the rest of the Middle East and their own allies. That being said it’s important to understand all the deaths previously and in the current war in Palestine and on both sides, but at the end of the day Hamas was voted in by their people and it’s difficult for those that are just innocent people but truth is many people there, not all, support Hamas knowing their atrocities even if they have been wrong previously they knowingly support the disgusting things happening by the hands of Hamas. It’s also a war and many innocent people die on both sides. I wish people especially in the U.S. would try to understand all aspects first before doing stuff like this or picking one of two sides always, or being so anti US authority or government (I know we don’t have the best track record and many problems at home) but you can’t put down our alliances with other countries especially with what happened. I do think it’s important for Israel to try to protect the civilians that mean no harm but it’s difficult as is in a war zone having to watch all your sides especially when majority of Palestinian people support Hamas and some have taken arms and many people celebrated as those that were kidnapped from the rave and their home were paraded around and then atrocities were committed onto them.
