What point are you trying to make? Those troublemakers didn't shorten the war one bit, but they did manage to erode support for our military enough that the Communists won, condemning the South Vietnamese to live under a bloodthirsty dictatorship to this day. They also made it take twenty years longer and cost 10 million more civilian lives than it needed to.

The title that argues that university instructors should be fired as a result of protesting seems to me like something out of a dystopian novel. Aren't universities meant to be places that harbor discussions and protests? And it seems to be simply unconstitutional for public universities to sanction someone for protected speech.
The constitutional right to free speech only covers suppression by government. Private colleges certainly are not bound by the 1st Amendment. Public universities generally are not considered government entities.
Universities should be a place that encourage discussion, and allow protests. Instructors attending protests kinda makes it seem like the university is taking a side which I don't think is their place.

It has not been "deemed a plausible genocide" and those people are not protesting a war. Stop making up numbers. Do you actually consider Israeli children to be less human than other children?
where do you get those numbers? Oh wait, the hamas run health organization. Civilians die in war. Free the hostages, quit attacking Israel, the war will stop. Are you for freeing the hostages? Are you against what happened on Oct 7th. Cant have it both ways.
it's even more absurd that anyone who SAYS they are "just protesting a war" to be threatening Jewish women with rape, telling Jews to kill themselves, shouting "WE ARE HAMAS!" at Jews.... It's YOU who actually consider Jews to be lesser than other people.
No offence I enjoy your opinions but a commencement ceremony does not seem as important as ending a genocide... I think any well educated person with ounce of understanding and compassion would easily understand that

Don't conflate the Likud with worldwide Jewry. The Likud can barely cobble together a majority within Israel, but Israel is, unfortunately, gripped in the same minority-rule spiral as far too many other countries - like Brazil, Hungary, Russia, Belorus (and very possibly soon) the United States. I'm pretty sure that most Jews across the world are just as horrified of Israel's treatment of Palestinian civilians as the rest of the civilized world. However, conflation of the two allows for any criticism of the activities of the State of Israel to be falsely framed as anti-Semitism, which is just the kind of fuel this authoritarian, minority-rule turn needs to smoulder more widely across the world. While resistance to that conflation is not always easy, especially for non-Jewish allies who support a homeland for the Jews, a resulting turn towards authoritarianism cannot possibly be good for anyone, least of all the Jews themselves.

You can see Smerc’s bias when he wonders if the protest is “organic” then shows an older gentleman who says he was inspired to come out and support the students. That is exactly what “organic” means in this context, a citizen saw the issue and came out on his own to support the movement. i wonder why the same scale protest didnt happen when coflicts in Syria and Yemen happen, conflicts that are bloodier and costs more lives, where the US is also involved in the conflict (selling weapons, air operations, etc.). perhaps because Qatari money is not flowing to universities to protest the conflict .............
@@SuperTrues Could be a good point - I’d need more details. But I think there are still some pretty profound differences between those conflicts and Israel/Palestine. There’s a strong case that the creation of Israel, which was indisputably a real catastrophe for the local Palestinian population, was a grave injustice, in part made possible by racist beliefs that led the West to ignore the impact of displacing local Arabs. There’s also clear evidence that Israel has been a bad actor since Netanyahu came to power (continued settlement expansion, strengthening Hamas at the expense of the PLO, human rights violations against Palestinians). The plight of the Palestinians is one that spans generations and is one that people have been aware of for a long time. Also the Palestinians are a largely occupied and weaker power. Those other conflicts don’t have this particular dynamic. Finally Israel is a democracy. All these things heighten the sense of injustice felt for the Palestinians. Anti-Semitism is surely playing a role in the magnitude of protests, but nonetheless should there be protests against what the Israeli government is doing and the US’s role - yes, I believe.
I know. It's an obscene comparison. Russia's actions were condemned universally. The only one that gets a free pass and keep acting with impunity is Izrael. If "experts" don't understand that the larger ramification of the Palestine issue is the threat of a breakdown in respect for global institutions and the so called rule based global order, then they aren't experts on the topic at all.

I remember when I used to think Scott Galloway had something interesting to say. Is it possible that instead of using how "white" or how "rich" people are to identify who the oppressors between Israel and Palestine are students are simply comparing the respective body counts? Since October 7th, just under 1,500 Israeli's have been reported killed. In the same period, over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed. But you think that the students have unfairly labeled the Israelis as the oppressors because they are Jewish or because they have lighter skin? Give you head a shake. Or maybe students are identifying the oppressors by looking at which side is building walls to confine the other to smaller and smaller areas resulting in what human rights groups are calling a new instance of apartheid. Saying that Israel is doing something bad is NOT a statement of support for Hamas and criticizing Israel's conduct in their prosecution of this conflict is NOT anti-Semitism. Students can count and math is not anti-Semitic.
@fellfromspace I have always disagreed with moral judgements being expressed merely as a tally of body-counts. You have very skillfully used that kind of moral argument against itself to make your point in this matter. My hat's off.
It's helpful to understand that the protests were coordinated for months, after years of organizing, by "National Students for Justice in Palestine" (NSJ) to execute exactly what we've seen in recent days. Like Hamas's 2017 "amendment" to its charter - which amendment notably fails to rescind the 1988 charter's genocide declaration, NSJ includes their own definitions of things like "intifida," "from the river to the sea," etc. While that may sound acceptable on the surface, lack of consistency with terminology - esp. trigger terms and phrases - further divides already divided groups, as Galloway correctly notes at the end of the interview, beginning at 348s.

“Tents aren’t speech.” Blocking the public from public paths or roads, or just blocking people who disagree with you, might feel more emphatic than speech. I hope that campers isolated behind their barricades talk with at least each other. Reason can come from dialog.
why don't you talk about the tents being bombed by the Israeli government in Rafa? These students are telling their university to divest from genocide, to divest from war crimes the tents you should be concerned about are the ones being bombed by Benjamin Netanyahu
oh, whats that? you could easily peruse the encampment? I thought they were supposed to be blocking everyone from getting to where they are going? hmmmm
For seven to eight decades the US has lectured other countries about letting all minorities have a voice. Now why are the US authorities trying to crush the voice of these protesting students. I saw videos of cops mishandling students, beating them, and arresting them. If this had happened in my country, President Biden's press secretary and US ambassador would have passed remarks. I am glad the US is getting the taste of its own medicine. The US must stop crushing the voices of innocent minorities. Disclaimer: I do not support Hamas or any terrorist groups. Just making a point about US hypocrisies.
To say that all the protest are making anti-Semitic is a lie. There shouldn’t be any attacks towards the Jewish students but to say that these students can’t protest is abhorrent. We have a right to denounce Israel’s apartheid state - and no, that is not antisemitism. It is holding Netanyahu accountable for war crimes against humanity.
Agree, but he's saying (pretty badly, I might add) that he believes that it's not the kids at the colleges but outside sponsors who are influencing harsh rhetoric, which ultimately looks terrible on the kids.
Jae, 1. Do those students understand the history of that contested place? 2. The fact that 100 people are shouting in protest doesn't mean they understand what they're shouting about. 3. November 29th 1947 the UN voted on the partition of that contested place between Jews and Arabs. The Jews accepted. The Arabs declared war against the Jews. And there have been many since then that all the Arab states lost. 4. What if, instead of killing 1,200 Israelis on October 7th 2023, the Hamas chose to be part of the Abraham Accords like the Emirate Arabs to have a peaceful resolution for the founding of a Palestinian state?
@@jimifashof course... everyone should accept what UN says or they are the bad guy...what a joke you are..even if that were true, still doesn't give Israel to bomb kids... those kids didn't have say in what happens, and if you use your brain, that's what's happening here... Sane people aren't protesting asking for end to war, they are protesting Israel cruality to not BOMB KIDS
@@NN-je9sn Palestinians aren't suffering genocide, you're just extremely gullible to terrorist groups that have been directed to use information warfare and propaganda.
Regardless of what we all may feel, protest is not designed to be convenient. The purpose is disruption to get attention. On the other hand, our society’s polarization has amplified the topic and, as is becoming the norm, the situation has escalated to shouting, violence, and the militarized showing of law enforcement. I pray that nobody loses their lives or is seriously injured in this mess. I feel sorry for all those seniors who, after all the hard work, may not get the opportunity to walk in commencement.
This idiot professor doesnt realize that the ''social engineering'' he just mentioned has been going on for decades- and he is part of it. The protestors are trying to deprogram the damage him and his cult have done.
Smerconish might need to realize that abortion rights are important issues, but those concerns happen over time and circumstance. The genocide in Palestine is happening in your face and in the present. It will go down in history as one of the most blatant genocides that have happened since the Vietnam war in Cambodia.
What is unbalanced about it? They are pointing out the critical difference between supporting Israel and supporting the Gaza Palestinians: - - - the stated goal of Hamas is to kill all Jews.
Funny, I bet when you find your preferred media that spews pro-Hamas anti-Israel (which IS antisemitic) nonsense, you are not similarly interest in balance.
The news segment is explicitly labeled as “commentary.”By definition and by design it’s his opinion. You can say that you don’t agree with his opinion, but it’s an invalid argument to say that CNN is somehow trying to hide that this reporting is an opinion piece. They’re being very transparent and labeling the genre for you. That’s like reading Harry Potter (genre : fantasy) and complaining how outrageous it is for JK Rowling to make up a bunch of magic.
Scott Galloway should learn about Dylan roof and the fallout. There were tons of Confederate flags and marches in support of naming academic buildings after white supremacists and Confederates. There are tons of articles documenting this.
Wow, Scott Galloway went to the NYU campus and, I assume, the Columbia campus, counted the number of similar tents and calculated that 40% of the NYU tents were similar to the Columbia tents? Then he used this "clue" to support coordination of the groups and that it hinted at a non-organic origin? Uh . . .sure.
